Resident Evil Revelations 2 Coming to PS Vita August 18th

Wish the framerate were just a bit higher. Now that I've watched a bit of it, it doesn't seem too bad, thankfully.

It's certainly better than Borderlands 2's stuttering and tearing.

Still holding out some hope that the 900 mb patch that is rumored for day one actually fixes some of this stuff. That is a pretty big patch but I think it also adds in all the co-op hooks so that would also explain the size.

That's what I'm hoping as well.

Will wait until release to see how it finally looks with the 900 mb patch and I'll dip in.

FPS seems wrong for the game. Hopefully the patch will fix that.

There is a review on Youtube for this now that talks about how it is the best Vita port and uses all PS4 footage in the review, lol! I suppose that is one way to get pubs to send you free games!

What made Rev 1 look so good on handheald IMO was the shader use, Revelations 2 lacks any kind of shader to enhance the textures that it looks like a mobile phone game from 2012, which is a bit upsetting.

This was a problem with DoA5 + as well. Game looks great overall and is at 60fps but appears very flat at times due to a lack of surface shaders. For example the zero reflections, normal mapping etc. on Ryu's black ninja outfit where on DoA Dimensions on the 3DS they are there.

Also to those calling out the port team, it was Chariot games that did this port of Rev: 2 at least according to Eurogamer. A look at their site shows obly a few games developed that look to be simple almost indie like releases. Certainly nothing that gave confidence that this was going to be a good port.

Aye, same goes for Deception IV on Vita: it had that flat look about it due to the loss of shaders. Which, with Resi Rev 2, amplifies the cut-back lighting, especially when you run your torchlight over stuff.

The Vita version of Sayonara UmiharaKawase+ also lost some shaders on a lot of the objects (very noticeable when you look at the fish's scales and the ducks in the "bathroom" level theme), but everything else looked better.

(iirc it was Frima Games who developed this port. I'm sure they did the best they could given the less-than-ideal circumstances)

dear lord that raid mode FPS, have fun at level 50+ with monsters with speed ups, smaller hit boxes and being able to set you on fire.

The uploader notes that the footage is without any day one patches applied.

My question is, IS there a day one patch? LOL.

Strange. The game was removed from the EU and in the store update today Jawad Ashraf wrote:
"We’re working on RE. We are hoping to get it up later tonight (later than usual), but it could well slip to tomorrow. Apologies for the wait."
I wonder why it was removed and now the delay. Maybe due to the missing day 1 patch. Still not available for me.

Day 1 patch is up:

It does not say improved terrible framerate... that said I suppose something with all those changes could have done something.

It's not mentioned in the patch notes but the game does indeed run smoother after the patch for me.
When I played it yesterday I found it very choppy and not very fun to play like that. While it's not perfect now it's a lot more enjoyable.

Thanks for sharing!

Now I'm considering grabbing it.

I don't know why Sony keeps on allowing messy ports on Vita. I'm almost certain that Revelations looked a lot cleaner and ran better on 3DS than this game runs on Vita. It's baffling.

You are talking about the publisher that took their premier developer's games, Naughty Dog's Jak & Daxter trilogy (and currently Uncharted and Last of Us) and made a very sloppy port of the games to the Vita :l. Bad frame rate issues, in-put lag with jumping and the game going into the single digits in Jak 3; bad port of three amazing games :(.

Then you have the 'great' port of Ratchet Full Frontal Assault on Vita. Just watch its magnificence and beauty running on the Vita; a beautiful game :').
I'm be sarcastic; its easily one of the worst ports to ever grace the Vita and a strong disservice to Insomniac's name X(.

Sony simply doesn't care about the quality of their Vita ports and the only reason the Sly Collection and Ratchet Collection were good on Vita was due to the former being made by the original developer of the PS3 Collection (Sanzaru) and the latter games being far less demanding in comparison to the Jak games (the PS2 Ratchets run on the same engine as the Jak games but aren't nearly as resource intensive as Naughty Dog's games) leading to the Vita port being good enough (to me at least).

Holy crap this is after the patch:

The gameplay footage in the campaign looks REALLY stable! I'm so impressed a patch could actually do something.

Hm, looks about the same as yesterday's footage to me. Some moments are smooth, others are choppy.

This bit is just as choppy as it was pre-patch: https://youtu.be/A8_ik8jIib8?t=134

Raid mode doesn't seem to be any smoother either (granted, this is in a different location to the earlier video) https://youtu.be/A8_ik8jIib8?t=358

These images look much better due to the brightness. I wonder why the chose to make the game SO bright that it makes the graphics looks washed up. This is with the darkest brightness settings right?

Yes that's the darkest setting. The default setting is way too bright.

Not one mention of framerate. All hope is lost.

That is a very in-depth patch; it seems that they were still working on the game after they sent the 'final' code to Sony, leading to this day-one patch having so much stuff added to it.

It doesn't look like it makes the game smoother performance wise, but it looks like it fixes a number of graphical issues, so that's good at least :).

The game honestly doesn't look that bad here; while not nearly as good as the PS4/X1 versions, the game still looks okay and retains what made the original versions look nice. I think the games gama being so high is a big reason why it looks so bad, as it just highlights how rough everything looks.

Your pictures look way better. I wonder if they had the brightness turned up while debugging the game or something like that and never adjusted the setting. Shit is lazy but the difference is pretty staggering. Can you still read everything and operate the game fine with the gamma down?

Here's the NA store link.

It was, but obviously it wasn't going to be 60 fps on Vita. I think it's pretty impressive that they got the whole game on the Vita mostly intact! It's pretty cool. Reminds me of the RE1 to Game Boy Color port.

Given the gap between Vita and PS3 is far smaller than the one between GBC and PSone, that's probably more of an insult to this port than you intended.

Seriously, after watching these screens and raid mode gameplay makes me sure that there is no way this wouldn't run on the 3DS. This port is fugly, it looks like they took out almost all of the shadows, normal-mapping and calles it a day. And that on a even more powerfull console.

For me it does run smoother. At least in the bit of the campaign that I played. I haven't played raid yet but the campaign did run like the raid video above before the patch.

Yeah I'm ok with the graphics. Maybe could have been better but it doesn't diminish the game. Still looks fine. The performance was the biggest issue for me.

To me with the brightness down the game looks like how it was supposed to look. I played the PC version before and the higher brightness did look completely off.
No issues with reading or operating the game like that.
