Doctor Who Off-Season | Hey Missy, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind

Instead of making the Doctor a woman, why not just make one of the other Time Lords escape Gallifrey's pocket dimension and have that one be female? Not every iconic male role has to be transformed into a woman/gay because "it's hip, it's trendy, OMG we're so with the times!"

But imagine Capaldi regenerates into Tilda Swilton and she is like " OMG !!!! I AM .....a GINGER !!! =D"

When was the last time we had a Doctor solo episode? I can't remember Smith having one, nor Tennant or Eccleston.

Solely a theory, but I like it enough to spoiler it.

Just Capaldi doesn't necessarily mean a solo Doctor episode - they could, perhaps, be exploring the whole 'where did this face come from' thing with other Capaldi characters from Who's past and some new ones.

Yeah, because fans of classic sci-fi shows always hate it when an adorable lady is super-compitant at mechanics and obsessed with machines in general.

OH WAIT:
44446-26726.jpg

I don't think the Sci-Fi fans will be the problem as we are an open minded bunch. It is the worldwide casual Doctor Who audience the beeb would be concerned about. You know, the people that actually make Doctor Who the most amount of money.
The hardcore Doctor Who fans are a niche bunch. When I go to the Doctor Who event in November I'm expecting a lot of casuals and families.

As much as we want to be the be all and end all as hardcore fans, the Beeb don't really care all that much about us. When I worked in retail, it was the families and casuals who'd buy all the sonic screwdrivers, Adipose plushies etc.

The only things that the hardcore do good business with them on is classic Who DVDs. Even then they did a really shitty package for Web of Fear and Enemy of the World because they knew we'd lap it up like dogs. No effort in those whatsoever.

Tennant was the Doctor when I was 12 and thus is the pinnacle of the show and must be what all others strive to emulate.

Tennant was The Doctor when I was 12 too and I tired of him :P

Remember as well even though Capaldi leaving would be quite abrupt, he'd be totally open to future reappearances; unlike Eccleston.

High five for Rani love. She was in two terrible, terrible stories and yet is still damn awesome. Or at least Kate O'Mara was. I should probably get around to listening to that Big Finish story to see if the character still holds up.

I liked the Rani Elite. I think Siobhan Redmond did an a-ok job with the character. Plus, another Scottish Time Lord (ok, Lady in this case)!

Speaking of audios, did anyone listen to The Last Adventure? I personally really enjoyed it. It wasn't caves of androzani or the war games, but it was a pretty fitting ending for a controversial doctor (for those who don't know, I'm talking about the 6th aka Colin Baker)

Time for another question.

If you could mix and match Doctors and companions/assistants from 1963 onwards to form your ultimate TARDIS crew AND your 'god-awful' TARDIS crew, who would you pick and why? Maximum of one Doctor and three companions for each.

Ooh, I like that. Moffat all but confirmed that a face from the past is the reasoning behind this regeneration. I wonder if we're going back to Pompeii.

So in the process of expending my Doctor Who media consumption, I recently read the Gaiman short "Nothing O'Clock", which a part of being overly and excessively (for such a short work) describing the doctor mesmerism, was just brilliant, with a fantastic sci-fi element, used uniquely with good accordance of the DW lore.

So what should I check out next, I prefer written materiel but if it is something really great I am open to the Audio Books.

Yeah that short story is brilliant and really creepy. I love it.

Best 4-man crew?

Too many choices -

4th Doctor, River, Romana I and Ian would be fun. There would be great conversation.
9th Doctor, Jack, Ace and Leela for the Action Team.
7th Doctor, Amy, Jamie and K9 - three Scots and a tin dog.
12th Doctor, Rose, Jo and Susan - old man and the kids.
6th Doctor, Donna, Wilf and Zoe would be a hoot too.

Worst?
5th Doctor, Tegan, Mel and Adam Mitchell

Apparently the penultimate episode of S9 will star Capaldi by himself as The Doctor. I cannot wait for that, it's going to be good.

There will be a lot more tension since 12 has nobody to bail him out but himself.

Twelve and
pre-centurion
Rory.
Watch Capaldi getting so frustrated by Darvill's awkward talking he starts shouting and beating him to death for a whole episode.

Capaldi, Donna, Wilf, Harry.

Just IMAGINE it.

Can I be awkward and use audio companions? If so I'd go for 8th Doctor + Lucie + Sarah Jane (4th Doc era) + Rory.

I mainly put Rory in there because a) rewatching some of his episode recently reminded me of Arthur Darvill's amazing comic timing, b) he'd probably actually get along and like travelling with the 8th Doctor and c) he'd no doubt be the one constantly being kidnapped leaving the others to rescue him.

Worst team up? Probably 6th Doctor with 5th Doctor's crew (by that I mean Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan). Even worse would be switching Nyssa for Peri.

Best? There's so many combinations!

Ignoring audio/comics:

8th, Jack, and River Song. Which honestly, could be done in audios.

3rd and modern UNIT (Osgood, Kate). Oh, and Martha since she'll clearly not have a crush on the Doctor this time.

1st, Wilf, and Liz Shaw.

7th, Romana II, Turlough (pretty sure they could stand the darker side of him)

With audios? Oh, the combinations are ENDLESS! 2nd and Frobisher! 12th and Evelyn Smythe! The Other Doctor and current UNIT!

8th, Hex, and Jack Harkness!

... I'm pretty sure there's slashfics of that.

Would love to see the 9th Doctor with a similarly strong willed companion, such as Liz Shaw or Leela. Constantly butting heads and yelling at each other would make for some interesting TV

11th and Jamie would be great as Matt Smith reminded me of Troughton.

FYI: All 8 seasons of Doctor Who (2005) is now on US Netflix. Not sure why, I thought it was supposed to be an exclusive deal with the BBC, that's why it was taken off. Not that I'm complaining... Time to rewatch! 😀

ULTIMATE:
Doctor: Eighth
Companions: Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, Rory Williams

GOD-AWFUL
Doctor: Sixth
Companions: Mel, Tegan, Adric

I left out audio drama companions, otherwise Lucie Miller & Evelyn Smythe would have been seriously considered.

re: the female Doctor thing - I think y'all are confusing "what you're used to" with "what fits the character"

I think I'll say that Moffat writes a very masculine Doctor, but I wouldn't say RTD did. So there's that.

By 'seriously considered' you mean 'win automatically' right?

Ultimate-

Doctor: Eighth (still the best)

Companions: Romana 2, Martha, Ace

God-awful-

Doctor: Third (I just don't like him. I've never gotten him.)

Companions: Peri, Tegan...maybe Rose.

What do you guys make of this? Is Peter Capaldi planning on leaving the show soon?

http://metro.co.uk/2015/08/19/peter-capaldi-hints-he-will-soon-be-leaving-doctor-who-5349999/

I really hope not as I've been greatly enjoying him as the new Doctor.

As I said earlier, I will riot if we don't get at least one Clara-less series of Capaldi.

Ultimate: 12, Donna, Wilf, Cpt. Jack Harkness

I was also trying to think of who I would like the next multi-doctor story to be about, and I'm ultimately torn between 12 & 8 or 12 & 9.

I think I'd probably love Capaldi & McGann that little bit more.

If nothing else, it's a whole lot more likely.

All the Classic DVDs are almost out - they will look for another revenue driver but it won't be a third party subscription like Netflix; more likely their own subscription service to all DW content in their range.

Strikes me as the next stage of this stuff anyway.

Not ultimate, but I would pay lots of money for a 12+Donna+stormaggedon series.

12 and Donna trying not to kill each other because of the baby

I would actually really love to see Donna come back for an episode or two to see her interactions with 12. I'm sure the Doctor could come up with some device that could temporarily bring back her old memories without killing her.

Sup WhoGAF. Love me some Doctor Who. Probably my fav show.

Fav docs.
1st: So pimp. Tolerates no bullshit and gets shit done without going crazy but with his mind.
10th: All around fun and entertaining. Really likeable.
4th:Where the crazy start and it's awesome lots of good stuff during that time. Unfortunately haven't gotten past this doc in the classics. Will fix it sooner or later.

Companions.
Ian: Brings the muscle where the old man can't. Really capable and his own man.
Sarah Jane: Needs no explanation.

Solely a theory, but I like it enough to spoiler it.

Please don't spoiler speculation in a thread where actual spoilers can be (and frequently are) posted under black bars. It'll just likely lead to someone accidentally clicking real spoilers because they've gotten used to the idea it's just more theories/speculation.

not on netflix, whatever shall I do? NVM

It only took 15 years

excuse the messiness

You, sir, are a God amongst men.

I'm very lucky that a friend from high school's mother comes from England, and she has a shit load of the old stories on VHS, which is how I saw most of the classic series. I bought a couple of my personal favorites on dvd, but I don't even come close to having the disposable income to try and collect all of it. Very jealous of you.

The only 'thing' I really collect and devoted an entire closet in my house for is Terry Pratchett books (and related stuff like comics/dvd's/maps/whatever). Looks really good. Sadly my collection is pretty much complete these days, now that Terry's gone :(.

Well, I try to explicitly state that it's speculation; some people don't like reading that prior to reveals, either, so I thought it best to be fair to that audience as well. It's arguably a YMMV thing, though.

On top of that, it's based on information that I wasn't sure was regarded as a spoiler in itself, so I was playing it safe.

Sweet, good choices. I always have trouble with picking my favorites because I like them all to some degree and it entirely depends on my mood or what I'm watching/listening to at the time. For instance I'm real into 6 right now, but if I try really hard to narrow it down I get here (jn order of appearance and not rank):

2
4
8
11

But then I look at that list and think things like "oh no the 10th doctor got cut! how can this be?" and "but what about the 1st doctor? He started this!"

As for side characters I love the Brigadier. He's #1. And Amy was great. Wilf was the one we all deserved more of. Charlie and Lucy were both good.
