and it unlocks 11am pdt 28GBsthats gonna take me 5 hours.
Could have been 50 GB.
Odd though. MGS4 was 30 or so on the PS3.

That sucks, but not a big problem for me as I'll still be able to play the game quite quickly unless Steam craps itself.
Color me disappointed as someone who prepurchased and wants to play at midnight.
Guess I'll hop over to my University's computer lab with my rig in tow, download it in a matter of minutes, and hop back home in 5 minutes. Still bullshit though that there isn't a pre-load option.

I have good enough internet to make this a non-problem, but it still sucks.
It's a big deal for people that have shitty internet unfortunately. Some people may not be able to play the game until a day or two after it releases without the preload.

TBH, his wording about September 1st for New Zealand was what made me hesitant on posting this sooner with the title. I'd love to find out I could start downloading on August 31st without a VPN
Can you get banned on Steam for spoofing your IP to download something outside your region before it becomes available where you are?

Yep, pretty much exactly this. They don't condone VPN-ing to unlock earlier but they won't ban you for it.

Steam tends to max out my connection of ~15 MB down, so it's kind of irrelevant for my personal situation.

According Steam Store TPP is 28GB.
I have one
1) cant choose where to download preloads other than your main Steam directory
2) even if I could preload to the SSD I would need double the space the game occupies for it to unpack / decompress
I have a 120gb drive with the OS on it
1,2mb/s so it would literally take me 14 hours or so. Glad we can DL and play early kekeke
