Star Driver, sure, it's stupid fun. Captain Earth? Nope.
I would absolutely say that show had no tension.
It was just as dull and repetitive. It featured no character depth or development.
Yeah, they're a lot alike in that regard.

Corvo has never let me down when it comes to good mecha.
If I'm getting great animation, fantastic climaxes, a great soundtrack, decent characters, and super robots looking awesome, I think I'll enjoy it just fine.
Well, the original series was a monster of the week show aimed for children...
I'm on Naruto Shippuuden episode 345 so I have seen the first episode of
flashback. I noticed in this filler guide that I am approaching a filler arc that fills in the story of what happened to Kakashi after Obito and Rin died up until he meets Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura. I found the Power (Chikara) arc and the episodes with the 6 tailed Jinchuuriki to be pretty good fillers and well worth watching. Are these Kakashi of a similar quality?

Noragami is a better adaptation than Brotherhood.
I quite liked Gunbuster, it was pretty clear that it inspired a lot of other shows, it still feels watchable. Some aspects of the story felt really stupid but it made good use of the time dilation as a plot device. I've seen Interstellar before this so it kind of reminded me of it.

There are few works, especially action shows, where the audience can't figure out the outcome in advance. Drama and tension don't require the outcome to be unpredictable but rather it's about the presentation of the protagonist's struggles. It's about the protagonist being pushed into a corner where they might doubt themselves or others and either have to use out of the box thinking or go to extraordinary lengths to overcome it. It's about making the audience believe, just for a moment, that the hero might not win. This isn't necessarily dependent on the outcome, although it certainly can be, but rather demonstrating the stress on the characters in a believable format.

Blood Blockade Battlefront is one I can already mention, and I didn't even see 1/3 of their shows. Noragami is also good, from what I read about it.

Don't expect this from Star Driver. The characters are all terrible. Some of the worst I can think of. None of them have any personality, and there's like 30 of them, most of them barely distinguishable from each other.
As far as characters go, the only thing you should expect from Star Driver is crippling disappointment.
The show was written in a way that if the MC lost even once, the show would be over. So even if Takuto was having a hard time, you knew that there was 10 or so episodes left, so he was going to find some bullshit way to win. Ruined the tension in my opinion. Maybe there was character development for Takuto in episode 16, but never for a moment did I think he would lose the fight. The premise should have allowed for losses; it would have make the show better in my opinion.
Have you seen GaoGaiGar Final, I can't imagine someone saying that's dull or repetitive.
The characters are all generally fun, despite Wako's 'Two Boys One Girl' problem. Soundtrack is stellar. It's a fun show but it has a ton of wasted potential.
Well he did end up losing. It should have happened sooner though so they could have moved the setting. It's not so much that the premise didn't allow for losses, it did, but rather that it should have happened sooner and the show expand past the island.

I lost it at the "twist", and when they did a dramatic reaction of everyone with the colors, and Urobutchers character not giving a single fuck. And for some reason there was zombie yuri??

I'll also say that even aside from all the characters having no personality, Star Driver's worst problem is that it's sub-Hanna-Barbera level.
Every single episode is pretty much exactly the same, with only small deviations here or there. After the first episode, I thought the show had potential. Little did I know they were just going to keep repeating the exact same plot except with the villain of the episode switched around.

This was probably one of the better episodes in a while, lot's of great moments and quotes.
The announcer is still the best thing about this show, he has so much good lines.
I'm excited to see where this two-parter is going to end.
I'm actually excited to see how this whole series is going to end, I still kinda believe in the dream that the last episode will have decent animation but who knows?

Yuuri is cruel. It seems she's the one most in favor of keeping Yuki in that state to ease her own sense of dread and whatnot. Yuki herself is highly unstable. Or perhaps she's hyper stable and is now just pretending to have her delusions? I sort of got that feeling this episode, though I'm sure it's not true. Otherwise a sort of cheery ep about balloons, pigeons, and letters.

I don't think that's the same thing, but I see what game you're trying to play Like I said earlier, the journey is the important part and how you get from A to B is what makes the events at B weightier as the events are put into perspective. You care about the characters and want to see them succeed, but with shows like Madoka and Lagann I didn't care about the outcomes because I felt that I wasn't given a reason to care. Lots of films have depressing imagery, films that chronicle the wars and yet Fireflies sticks out for a reason, not the ending but the way in which the story is told through its imagery and music. On paper, most anime series play out in a typical fashion as the story beats play out like tropes, clearly telegraphed from the first frame, and although some do contain unique gimmicks like time dilation, what separates the bad ones from the great ones is the part in the middle, obviously. A lot of it has to do with the audience too, which is why one person can watch a show like Evangelion and call Shinji a whiny bitch while another like myself could sympathize with him. Diebuster is certainly very different from Gunbuster and (I'm sure you've heard this before,)more like FLCL or GL.
To preserve your high opinion of my taste, I will say that while I think it's a very good/great show in its own right (even if tad incomprehensible in the second half), it is a certain, beautiful and breathtaking, moment that just single handedly elevates it even further and into my top10.
Honestly, everything I've read about SD up till now leads me to believe I will be better off if I experience it through sakugabooru.
Reading manga weekly is sufering. ;_; Especially after binging entire series beforehand.

I guess to go back to yesterdays convo, Diebuster is my guilty pleasure...yeah that checks out. It contains everything I hate in anime, from the visuals to the character designs, the mech designs, and a sequel to a top 5 show for me which is always an uphill battle, but I enjoyed it a lot when I watched it. Since it's short I just marathoned it. If Gunbuster was the physical manifestation of 80's Gainax, a pre Eva world, then Diebuster was the physical manifestation of 2000's post FLCL Gainax.

I would say it's not worth it but I'd say the same about Six-tails arc. From what I remember, Kakashi filler is a bit weird in that it can be divided in two parts, the first being really bad and the second one, while still being bad (and silly in terms of filler addons to the canon material), had bits of Shisui, Itachi and the Uchiha conspiracy which made it a bit more palatable for me.
If you decide to skip it, watch these two scenes.
It's a proper continuation in terms of fanservice at least.

When Sakura's mother started talking I immediately recognized her seiyuu as Fumi Hirano. She did/does the voice of Lum from Urusei Yatsura which is an earlier work also by Rumiko Takahashi.
Not only does she provide the voice but you'll notice by the picture that Sakura's mother also has green hair and her apron has the kind of tiger striped pattern just like Lum has. A neat little nod and cameo to another Takahashi character/work.
Otherwise it was kind of a fun episode with Rinne's antics on trying to be alone with Sakura. I also really like Ryohei Kimura as Tsubasa and his energy as far as Tsubasa getting excited or jealous and whatnot (usually involving Sakura,haha).

Star Driver and Captain Earth both were completely unenjoyable to me because I knew that there were many other episodes to go and both are set up on the premise that if the good guys loses even 1 fight it is game over everybody dies. Yes I know 'technically' Star Driver MC loses that one fight but at the end he really doesn't actually lose cause ASSPULL.
By default that means the MC/s will win many fights by absolute asspulls or nonsense because the writers have set up for no other option to take place. I cannot enjoy that at all and for me that makes the show of lesser quality.

As to star driver, it's a perfectly ok show that would be made better if they dropped the love two boys at once crap
It happens at the very end of the show, ep.24. They should have had him lose earlier and make the final arc take place in the city like the movie hints at.

This show is so fucking weird. They spent like 45 seconds just hovering on Nancy getting choked while she made weird noises. And then you have the panning down and up that takes like 5 seconds everytime EVA 01 Ninja and Bad Boss Guy talk because of height difference.
I can't tell if this is next level or terrible. At least the OST is good but it sounds like Hotline Miami songs that weren't good enough to make the cut.

Yeh that's why, as long as I remain strong willed, I don't intend to continue the manga anytime soon. Even while binge reading I felt like the chapters were so short that I was afraid the larger plot would hardly move along despite having above a hundred left. Well and that's kind of the case but not necessarily to a fault. But reading these chapters like one at a time weekly? No....no. That's impossible.

Damn, I wasn't sure what to expect when starting this one, but the first three episodes are a mix of inspiration, angst, excitement and sadness as they take you through the story of how they started playing the game. I must say, it is a lame game, however, they make it appear like a great and exciting sport, lol. How they portrayed everything was really well done and Im looking forward to seeing where they go with this story.

Watashi and the faries interactions are great.
I don't understand how people find Weekly schedule for manga unbearable. I mean try reading a manga Monthly or even Quarterly. Weekly format is really fine, not that hard to wait.
Being a D-Gray Man fan is suffering especially waiting for a chapter every 3 months.

This was actually .... goo... tfu better. The memory manipulation skill and the way it was put to use by the apparent new haremite was entertaining. So was her (shortlived) cold bloodiness. Too bad mc's plot armor protected him from having all of his memories. up till birth erased. Would have made for a more enticing lead. The twist at the end may add some delicious despair to the whole conundrum.
I've watched Oreimo S1 up to EP9 so far... it's a bit disappointing how Kirino's ulterior motives for being such a siscon are slowly being revealed as actually having a crush on her older brother. Having her play an eroge with a 100% tsun-tsun little sister who she despised despite acting exactly that way towards Kyousuke was a really ham-fisted move, IMO.
I didn't expect the girl with the swirly glasses and really old-fashioned speech patterns to be an ojou when not hanging out with fellow otakus so that was a suprise, but whether that's actually god or bad depends on how this new trait of hers is used. Seeing Kuroneko drop her acting when around her younger sister was also nice, but it almost feels the side characters are being explored while Krino herself appears to be a fairly flat and static character herself, which is a real shame.

You could say the existence of Uchihas is what made Naruto become shit. Kishi really has a thing for eye powers and shit. I mean Izanagi is literally a bullshit asspull itself.
Then again I thought the series went to shit after the time skip.
If that were true, Itachi and Shisui wouldn't be so awesome. Also, Madara could have been awesome, but they neutered him and ruined his character.
It was ruined when everything turned out to be related to the Otsutsuki clan, and then in the last arc of the series, they pull out even more Otsutsuki's we'd never had any inkling or mention or hints of just to condense it to some bullshit "You're his reincarnation" angle.
Horrible world building. Horrible writing.

Enjoy it, because Krino is the worst character in the show and that never changes.
Izanagi may be ridiculously over the top compared to the most of the rest of powers in Naruto but I wouldn't call it an asspull. It was clearly and smartly foreshadowed way before Danzo unleashed it.

This was really good. In particular, the parallels between the mushi problem at hand and human issues elevated the material even further. The ending managed to be both charming and quite funny. Though that epilogue seems to hint that despite his content façade, Ginko isn't completely at peace with his fate. Wonder if that will get explored down the road.

If only Kishi has focused on Worldbuilding and developing his characters instead of focusing on the Sasuke retrieval bullshit. We don't even know much about the other Villages aside from learning about them a bit in the 5 Kage Summit arc. I would of enjoyed the series more if Kishi has delve more into characters like Lee, Guy, or even fucking Tenten like seriously he has always put her on the side doing nothing for her character. The Sasuke shit is one the biggest things that pissed me off about Naruto.
Naruto's best for me will always be the Lee vs Gara fight.
