Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

I dare to say that the number of night/rain tracks is a bit disappointing. I can see the reasons and limitations, but still...

Any word on a demo though?

Agreed. I think they'll update the current roster with more night/rain variations over the course of the games life cycle though (well hopefully).

No word on a demo. Ultimate owners get to play this in 17 days, so a demo is getting less likely.

Yeah, I think there's more chance we might see a demo on or after the standard release date. Ultimate owners would (rightly) be up in arms otherwise. Early access seemed to be the main draw for Ultimate buyers (which doesn't bode well for the future, folks).

A demo has still less content (and is often an older build) than the final game though. I don't see why one rules out the other. So far this is the first Forza game I have not preordered :(

Common sense would be lost in the violent fog of internet backlash.

I think most if not all Ultimate edition buyers are old time forza fans, so they know what to expect and probably won't care about a demo, they just want to get all the goodies and have the game early as a bonus. It's not like ultimate edition is going off sale or dropping down in price after the game is released just because early access is done.

I've pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition and I don't care if there's a demo, early or not.
I ordered it for all the car packs, the 5 day early is just icing on the cake really.

Don't know if it has been posted but if not, it seems like we know the weather conditions for each track:

Is this first official confirmation of Monza?

While it does appear to be a bit of a let down, I guess that it's just a result of T10's vehement adherence to their 1080p & 60fps, no if's no but's stand point, something is going to suffer.

Didn't they visit all the tracks listed in the rain/night conditions to actually map them at that time? I know T10 are quite the perfectionists for that. I understand the short list if it was that reason. Hoping for more though. F1 race on Nurburgring at night? Salivating at the thought.

Wish I could bag the ultimate edition and play it early, but I'll be on holiday.

It's more likely a time issue since the lighting and weather isn't dynamic they need to create each track condition individually.

This was sort of my point, maybe they couldn't write a dynamic weather / TOD system due to the limitations of the hardware?, surely that would have been a more elegant solution rather than pre-baking each condition for each track?

A dynamic system is already there and working in Horizon 2 ... at half the framerate, so it's definitely a technical limitation more than anything. They could do it if they dropped to 900p like everyone else, but that would be embarrassing after all the 1080p bravado.

How do you know "they could do it if they dropped to 900p"..?

Very disappointing to me. Why give Rain to the F'n Test Track? Out of all the others available, they spend time to add rain to a Test Track?

Don't get me wrong, I love that they added Rain and Night to some courses, but there are WAY too many courses stuck in the 1 time of day setting. I was fully expecting at least half the track to have at least 1 alternate time of day, but it looks like that is not happening.

While I am still there day 1 and will play the shit out of the game, I just am very disappointed that they could not manage a few more tracks with alternate TOD settings. The night/rain tracks are very limited as well, but I understand night/day was new and perhaps took some effort, why they applied all that time to the test track and not one of the regular courses is beyond me.

I for one was hoping that you could have at least 2 TOD settings, especially when using a different ribbon for the same environment. I was not expecting all the courses to have it, but this is really something I thought they would of remedied a bit just to give some of the courses a bit of variety.

Enjoy the full 10 car V8SC fleet:
B, this is great news. Appreciate Turn 10's inclusion if the current series. But i'm more about the cars and series of the past such as the Australian Touring Car Championship. Just tell me, with cryptic undertones or otherwise, am I going to be dissapointed or not? Just give me something. A smiley. A frown. Anything.
Just put me at ease so I can get on with my life already....
BADNED....!!!!!!!! Help meeeee!!!!!!

A track that is famously often driven in the rain - and will now allow us to compare ourselves to the (W) bits of the SIRPC leaderboard.

TG test track in the rain is very real thing so it had to be in there :P

I hope some dlc down the road adds in more wet variants, 7 is really lacking to me.

More rain/ToD will likely be added during FM6's lifespan.

That's what I think too.
T10 will probaly (hopefully) add 1 or 2 variations for free each time a new track DLC is available, just like the 1 free car they had with each paid pack.

So we've got Spa, Nurburgring and Le Mans as the only tracks that feature rain & night (not simultaneously as we already know, but as options). Those are probably the only endurance tracks, along with Daytona for obvious reasons.

Hopefully T10 will support F6 for the next 2 years with new tracks & tod/weather variations.

Didn't we say the same thing with Forza 4, that they will add different time setting for the tracks that didn't have them? We all now that we didn't get anything, and I'm pretty sure it will be the sane this time around. We might get night or rain on one or two DLC tracks, assuming we will get DLC tracks this time. DLC tracks for FM5 were added because game didn't have enough content/tracks and people were bitching. Now it's completely different story, a lot more tracks and a lot more cars, a lot more content so no pressure on T10 to give free or paid track DLC.

Don't get me wrong I love Forza (less with each release but still) and I would love to get free tracks, more tracks with weather and night, but I can't be optimistic, not with T10 anymore. Still very excited for Forza 6 but it's a less of Forza I want with each release. Instead of making Forza more suited for hardcore Forza fans, people that love racing and MOTORSPORT the game gets more casual with each release. I want (and I'm not alone in this) qualifying, practice sessions, warm ups, working pit stops and pit strategies. I want more racing cars in Forza, we already have shit load of road cars as it is and plenty more will be coming anyway. I just want that Motorsport aspect in Forza.

T10 may say they listen to hardcore fans but they don't, cause features we loved wouldn't be taken away and feature we want would have been added a long time ago. We don't ask about crazy stuff, we don't want Rally or bikes in Forza, we love T10 want to focus on road racing. The only thing we really ask for is to expend on the Motorsport aspects of the game, to make racing what it is, nothing more.

It's not just that. They'd need to redo all the tracks because it's likely the textures aren't capable of handling dynamic light (hence why there's multiple iterations of fixed lighting, like in FM4 (not sure on FM5)). Plus there's the overhead of trying to eek the performance out of the system, especially when it's unlikely the CPU (not GPU) processing power needed to calculate dynamic ToD/weather would be freed by dropping a few lines of resolution (really only saving load from the GPU).

Hah!

Well if (and when) you do, look me up for some rivals action.
You know it! Have to wait for a price drop, and the saving up for a house to finish :(

They're using PBR now and IBL which means the assets can adapt to any lighting you choose with no problems. The problem is dynamic shadows which are very expensive to render, even FH2 which does it at 30 fps has much worse car lods and environment detail than FM5, just goes to show how much of a strain it is. And going to 900p from 1080p is not dropping "just a few lines", it's rendering 40% less pixels, which is a huge performance gain. With optimization they could make it work at 900p, but then again it goes against their marketing. Plus it's a bit embarrassing considering that GT6 has both dynamic ToD/Weather and runs at higher res than 900p.

1600x900 has 70% of pixels 1920x1080 has. Unless my maths is out.

1600x900 has 70% of pixels 1920x1080 has. Unless my maths is out.

1920*1080 = 2,138,400
1600*900 = 1,440,000
1440000/2138000 = 0,67
So, yeah, you're right, still 30% is a ton of performance overhead. Plus in reality Forza has to run a good deal higher than 60 fps to remain locked even under most stressful condition, and it's not hard to see why PCars that runs at 900p and allows itself to drop below 30 in worst condition and below 60 in most cases can have dynamic lighting/weather. Everything comes at a cost.

RIP Justin Wilson.

Motorsport is a dangerous profession.

Looking forward to playing this game on the 10th. Keep up the good work T10.

Another interview with Dan. He mentions longer career races. Maybe 4 lap races instead of 3? ;) But hopefully we see a dare mod that allows you to increase laps by 2,3,5,10 etc.

I asked him at Gamescom, races are short at start of the career, like 4-5 minutes races in the first 15 minutes, then it gets longer, up to 1 hour at the end of the career.

He said it's more like Forza 4 than 5.

Showcase events include Endurance that can last more than 2 hours.

There's no mod to increase (or decrease) race length.

Okay, I caved since I could get a used one for £55...

I know not having Force Feedback hinders me, but any tips for someone who has never used a wheel in their life and can't drive?

The pedal on the right makes you go faster. The left one slows you down.

Don't slam them all the way down, feather it in.

Don't change your foot position if the wheel is turned (don't change velocity while turning) until you get comfortable.

Since you don't have a clutch pedal, learn to drive with both feet, left foot brake, right foot gas.

Do a brake mod. It's all to easy to lock them up as the pedal is no way stiff enough imo.

A bit of foam or soft rubber in the space behind the pedal and base will do.

Trading in a few games when I go to pick up Madden today, and I'm thinking of just using the credit at Best Buy to buy 2 $50 Xbox currency cards to get the Ultimate Edition.

An interesting quick note about Turn 10 and getting feedback to them:

So what you're saying is Forzagaf needs to beg Helios for the following (in order of most to least important):
1. A driveable UNSC Warthog.
2. All of the fantasy tracks.
3. The Mazda Furai.
4. Adjustable race length/qualifying.
5. A new lighting engine.
