Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | Review Thread | Words That Kill

How is this a spoiler? I don't know anything, i said this since the beginning that Solid Snake would be my dream final boss.

Was it not implied in this thread that, based on leaks, the ending will not cover
anything between Big Boss and Solid Snake?

I haven't really been into the spoiler thread, only this one, but I did read here something about Team A being wrong and this.

Maybe I mistook speculation with actual spoilers. Forgive me if I have done so.

No editing was done to the original artwork, just increased canvas size.

Took out the watermark and blew it up just a tad so it fits the canvas:

Well i don't know anything about any spoilers and i'd like to keep it that way.

The other Gaffer only said Team A lost because based on the reviews because nobody mentioned Hayter BUT that doesn't mean he's not in the game, like i said story spoilers are under a very strict NDA so it's still everything possible... most likely not but still possible.

We don't know the ending because the ending hasn't leaked. The ending cannot be leaked becuase the ending is locked and the website on how to fulfil the very specific criteria hasn't been put up yet. So no, Team A hasn't lost yet and no Sn4ke hasn't spoiled anything.

Edit: Also for people who may ask "well couldn't the people who get early copies leak it"?
There's 99.9% chance they can't considering its known it's extremely hard to get the ending without this guide.

Gah, I don't know why. But I'm not as excited for this as I should be. I've been a HUGE Metal Gear Solid fan since I was a kid playing through MGS1. I seriously got through rough periods of my life just by saying, "I need to play MGS4". But this one doesn't seem like why I liked mgs in the first place... it was never about the gameplay to me. Actually let me rephrase that, it was never about the shooting and combat scenarios to me and it seems like MGSV is only about that. And seeing reviews loving it but saying it is sparse on story makes me concerned...

I still want it, but it looks more like an entertaining open world game (to which there are way too many nowadays), but not a particularly nostalgic entertaining MGS game. Also Ground Zeroes didn't really do it for me at all, it plays so much like a shooter (I love shooters btw). Oh well, maybe it'll change once I play it.

Curious if there is anyone else that feels this way?

(also people saying, "I played 40 hours and I'm not even half way done!" is not attractive to me. It just shows that there is just way too much fluff to me... maybe I'm just too old for open-world games now)

/raises hand

im curious once the hype dies down to see what makes up the core aspect of this game. i have a sneaky feeling there is wades of fluff packed in there right now, either side ops or go collect this hostage and his dog etc. will see what youtube throws up from playthrus

Been posting all over trying to get help for this. I can't figure this problem out for the life of me. I also accidentally read huge ass spoilers for the big twist in searching for help on this. So now I'm mad on multiple fronts.

Replaying Ground Zeroes and I'm having a relatively new issue, wondering if anyone has the same. The game likes to crash randomly when I use the binoculars and look around, zooming in and out and tagging and what not. I have a pretty decent laptop and the game runs great otherwise. I'd hate to think I'll just be unable to use the binoculars or sniper scope in TPP.

Can anyone help me with this? Windows 8, 840M graphics card, i54210U CPU, 8GB RAM. Never had this issue with my old crappier laptop. Seems like it would be some kind of driver issue, but my display driver is up to date. Half the time when it crashes my laptop BSOD, so I can't even try different things. Issue repeats on different settings. Even repeats when it's the only program running, so I wouldn't think it's a CPU issue.

Not sure if it's related, but fullscreen doesn't work properly either so I have to use borderless windowed, and the mouse cursor never goes away so I have to hide it in the corner of the screen.

Any idea what's wrong here? This is really frustrating. The game runs great for me but I'm completely unable to use anything with a scope.

All my drivers are up date, the game runs great on my laptop, it doesn't feel like it's overheating, I have no idea how to fix this.

Then it seems that I have indeed mistaken speculation with actual spoilers. Thank you for clarifying this, and I apologize for jumping to conclusions.

No problem :)

I know it's that time were we're especially cautious about spoilers but trust me it's pure speculation on my end.

Obviously only day one, but hey! Prediction is holding steady

Wait we back at 95?

*checks metacritic*

aww :(

Exactly, it's not a spoiler. Well it is but it would have become common knowledge when the reviews hit anyway considering it was one of the first things everybody asked.

For anyone wondering it's
the fact that when the story "ends" there are other story missions left that wrap up a lot of questions and characters etc. so basically the story doesn't end when you think it does and the credits roll twice.

So this is the thing. if you go in blind, no reviews, no lets play, no spoiler thread or spoilers or anything, Would you consider it a spoiler or not? People i know who only saw one review, "kinda funny's" said thats a big spoiler and kinda upset at it.

Im guessing it depends on the person and their definition of a spoiler or not

Don't worry about it brother, it's all good and we're all hyped. I just wanted to clarify it for you and everyone.
I'd be the same if I cared about spoilers lol.

True, I've known for days, I knew it'd come out eventually though when people figured the reviewers didn't unlock it. It's genius on Kojima's part but also a very stupid thing to do in today's climate that "if one thing in a game is wrong then the whole game is fucked" stupid thinking but hasn't affected MGSV anyway so it's all good.

I wouldn't hold on to that metacritic score yet anyways, will probably drop more once most reviews come in. Witcher 3 and Blooborne both were at 94-95 at first as well I believe, but both dropped to a great 92 in the end.

Looks like the race to the GOTY is going to be really intense this year. I imagine awards will fly between Blooborne, Witcher 3, MGSV, and Fallout (unless that turns out to be a disappointment, but I can't picture that happening) equally for the most part, and all of those would probably end up being deserving winners.

Anyways, review scores bumped MGSV to the second best selling game in steam (from like the 7th or 8th) in less than 8 hours. Easy to see why Konami allowed such an early embargo.

"You can finish an open-world game without doing all the side content" isn't a spoiler.

Anything above a 90 MC score is pure gold in my eyes. Even if MGSV only scores 91 I'll still be the happiest man alive while I'm playing it.

So do the side missions in this game solely consist of sidemissions to recruit members?

There's nothing like exploring structures or caves that exist solely to explore and find random stuff in? It's hard to explain, but I guess in a game like Shadow of the Colossus, I could explore stuff that didn't have any direct involvement with the story, but just existed for the experience/world building. Is there stuff like that to find in this game?

You can do that, just go into free-roam. Side missions could be anything - destroy this, infiltrate here, extract whatever. But I'm sure we'll be fultoning in most missions.

So I can come across a random cave with no enemies, or some kind of hidden structure and explore it, possibly finding cool easter eggs or random ...stuff?

oh damn it, I didn't realize the PC version came out 15 days later.. I don't think I can wait. Any word on the PC version? How are their PC ports, typically?

Well, I wasn't sure it was going to happen but I've finally found my inner hype for this game. Awesome reviews, can't wait!

OP definitely needs an update, we posted plenty of new reviews throughout the thread.

It doesn't. They changed it so that it comes out the same day as console versions. And Ground Zeroes on PC is a pretty fantastic port.

That said, MGO comes out much earlier on consoles, so I'm still debating between PS4/PC versions.

PC version doesn't come out 15 days later, it's coming september 1st as well. The release date was brought forward alongside the console versions earlier this month, so no worries there.

It's being ported by the same guys that ported Ground Zeroes, and Ground Zeroes was a fantastic port. Should be no problem with the port hopefully.

Yep, if I remember from the E3 demo, you can roam around doing what you want and there are beacons/upload links that appear on the map and you could start a (side?) mission that way if you want.

An open-world game having an end-game common to pretty much all open-world games is not a spoiler.

Can somebody ask Greg Miller how many endings he saw?

He said the credits rolled and there was more story stuff to do after, but he never explicitly mentioned a "second ending" or another set of credits. Maybe he saw one and just didn't mention it or maybe there isn't one. I'm not sure
