The trailer took me from emotional reminiscence to "hell yes the new Metal Gear is an orbital frame WITH A WHIP SWORD" very quickly.
Imagine Star Wars pulling of a likewise effect. It's hard.

That is one ugly looking Metal Gear and a flamming whip sword? It's like something out of Power Rangers.
If it weren't for the whip, it'd be pretty cool.
which Metal Gear is your favorite?
This trailer proved to me that Kojima should make a mech game next.
Did you miss the Zone of the Enders series? Not traditional hulking mechs but still.
I simply think it doesn't belong, it's too much. What's wrong with the whip? i think it looks cool.

It wasn't so much the laser whip/sword itself as the fact that it seems to cast the Earth spell from Final Fantasy too.
I hope you have to climb it Shadow of the Colossus style.
By the way guys, I hope you enjoyed the last ever Hideo Kojima directed Metal Gear trailer. It was a fun couple of decades.
The flamming whip makes MGSV's Metal Gear look less like a military project and more like a something out of an anime or a children's superhero series.

The giant metal gear gun cock is something you just cant not see once you see it. lmao
To be fair, the MGS series is basically anime.
you didn't see?The Third Son floating in the air behind the mech
True, MGS has always blended anime-esque/supernatural elements with realism. But I feel earlier games combined those elements in a way that made things seem plausible.
Things started to go downhill with Peace Walker imo.
The whip just seems unusually out of place - even for a MGS game.
This person's post has been bothering me since i read it...Could you elaborate on why this is a "pretentious song"?
Anime's also not a bad thing. It's also a descriptor that barely means anything, because crazy cool nonsense is in all media somewhere.
MGS1 had an anime ninja.
MGS2 had a vampire run on water, an anime style metal gear (ray) that shot laserbeams at you, and a samurai swordfight in new York with your dr octopus war-dad. (And raiden was soooo anime)
The anime's always been there. Sneaking in the shadows.
I cannot imagine a military developing a walking tank equipped with flamming whip/sword as a weapon.
Well, Sauron put a lot of his 'power' into a special ring. Didn't make any tactical sense but it ended up being a nice story.
LOTR is high fantasy tho.
This is the correct reaction.
lol at people eye rolling this shit in a METAL GEAR game.
How is the Metal Gear from the past (MGSV) more advanced than MG REX?
That Metal Gear does not fit in the timeline in my opinion.
As much as I hate the time travel theory, it would explain this.
I avoided watching the trailer in order to avoid seeing a spoiler, but managed to spot this post. Thanks.is there any reason it shows Snake walking and slowly becoming Skull Face?
