MGSV:TPP LAUNCH TRAILER

So, I have mine copy of Phantom Pain preordered from Best Buy, and I had it ship to home. I can't remember if BBY ships the day of release, or earlier so that I get it on release day. So hyped, I can't wait!

which Metal Gear is your favorite?

For me it's Rex. MGS (on PSX) was my introduction to the series, and it took place in pretty much the same timeframe that I played games like Mechwarrior 2, or saw movies like Robocop (with ED-209) for the first proper time. Rex fitted my 'idea' of a Mech-tank.

The trailer was phenominal. I've been playing this series since 2005 and I'm excited to see how it ends.

It's kind of funny since we know that this is really the end considering that Kojima and Konami are parting ways. Metal Gear will continue on according to Konami, but not like this.

made with full of love from Kojima

It wasn't so much the laser whip/sword itself as the fact that it seems to cast the Earth spell from Final Fantasy too.

I hope you have to climb it Shadow of the Colossus style.

By the way guys, I hope you enjoyed the last ever Hideo Kojima directed Metal Gear trailer. It was a fun couple of decades.

you didn't see
The Third Son floating in the air behind the mech
?

The flamming whip makes MGSV's Metal Gear look less like a military project and more like a something out of an anime or a children's superhero series.

To be fair, the MGS series is basically anime.

True, MGS has always blended anime-esque/supernatural elements with realism. But I feel earlier games combined those elements in a way that made things seem plausible.
It started to go downhill with Peace Walker imo.
The whip just seems unusually out of place - even for a MGS game.

MGS1 had an anime ninja.

MGS2 had a vampire run on water, an anime style metal gear (ray) that shot laserbeams at you, and a samurai swordfight in new York with your dr octopus war-dad. (And raiden was soooo anime)

The anime's always been there. Sneaking in the shadows.

Anime's also not a bad thing. It's also a descriptor that barely means anything, because crazy cool nonsense is in all media somewhere.

Yeah and I'm not denying the existence anime/magic/supernatural elements in the previous games. Just saying they were implemented in a way that made the technology seem plausible - you could imagine DARPA coming up with something similiar in future.

A flaming whip sword just seems ridiculous and would be more at home in a Dark Souls game. I cannot imagine a military developing a walking tank equipped with flamming whip/sword as a weapon.

How is the Metal Gear from the past (MGSV) more advanced than MG REX?

That Metal Gear does not fit in the timeline in my opinion.

This is the correct reaction.

lol at people eye rolling this shit in a METAL GEAR game.

I know! Did people really think Kojima was going to turn the series into a dry "Tom Clancy" knock-off - especially given its place within the overall continuity of the Metal Gear saga?

The odd thing is that its happening in some reviews too. Metal Gear has always contained a strong thread of manga-style excess... its one of the defining features of the franchise.
