Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | Review Thread | Words That Kill

Looking at SimplyGames their prices are damn good. How reliable are they? My faith in Amazon has reached an all-time low after many many fuck ups this year so I'm looking to replace them game-wise.

Simply are amazing, switched to them after ShopTo turned into cash cows.

I got AC3 from them 6 days before release. They always get the game to you a day or two before. This looks like another AC3 repeat for me

I ordered at 12pm GMT, got a dispatch email at 1pm. I've used Simplygames for years.

I dont think they care about "memos" from game publishers

Zero reviews for the PC version doesn't fill me with confidence - do we know who is porting this to the PC?
GZ ran well enough and I heard the Fox Engine is good to port. Believe. If you believe hard enough everything can happen. Remember when GAF believed the Last Guardian into reality? Like that. Believe like that.

Caved and bought MGSV from Simply Games. Says that orders are dispatched the same day if placed before 3:30pm. Fingers crossed!

Be interesting if that applies to pre-orders that are shipping on that day. I only ordered today too so will update if I get a despatch email.

Kojima Productions. Kojima already posted some stunning 4K screenshots, and the game runs at 4K 60FPS (on something at least). That fills me with confidence.

Its zero reviews for PC because the bootcamp review event was only with PS4 versions. I don't think any other version(s) have been openly shared with any reviewer so far, so you'll just have to wait till release date for PC specific sites to start reviewing it, I guess.

Yeah I'm not getting my hopes up or anything. although I am expecting it to go out tomorrow if not today, in which case it should still turn up before my Tuesday if it's first-class post. So win-win really.

Argh, I was totally fine with waiting until Tuesday until people started talking about theirs being sent out today... Why is my life so unfair?

Not sure if it's been mentionned, but it's not mandatory to replay the missions in higher difficulty to unlock the true ending, as was suggested by the Gamespot review.

JulienC at Gameblog.fr confirmed this.
He also said that if you listen to the tapes (yellow ones) and get the true ending, there is no way you're gonna be disappointed by the story, and it answers all the questions that fans have been asking for in the whole saga.

Well what is the requirement for getting a true ending?

So was I!

After reading about Simply Games, I ordered from them earlier this afternoon (2 hours ago) and just now got the confirmation that my order has been dispatched!

I'm in the Netherlands, so curious as to when it will get over here - but should still be before the actual release date.

Also worked out as 10 euros cheaper - even after shipping.

Fuck it, cancelled my Amazon order and ordered from SimplyGames. Annoying how many hoops I have to jump through to set up a new account (as well as a PayPal one too) but it'll be worth it especially if I use the site more.

Ordering before 3:30pm should leave me in a good position I would assume...

This sounds great.

Me too, hopefully we'll be playing before the weekend!

You'll be fine. They ship up until 4pm which I think is the last postal collection

I guess we'll have to wait for some strategy guides or online tips when the game comes out, as he didn't really elaborate (didnt want to spoil).

One thing that really got me excited is that he said the most important storylines in the game are Eli (who is a key character in the whole saga) and the relationship between Big Boss, revolver Ocelot and Kaz Miller.

maaaaaaaan fuck you guys for getting early copies

y'all whining about getting your copies until tuesday and I have to wait at least a week and a half from Tuesday to arrive to me...

18/20 from Jeux-video.com

Tons of positives
The only negatives are a few bland environments, no breaking the 4th wall and slightly disappointing aspects for MGS fans (OST, number of cinematics and bosses)

OST?? D:

Why is that? To be clear I was saying that not having to replay missions to get the true ending sounds great.

Oh all right. I thought you were referring to the second sentence about the story. Hopefully even he did not mess up about not having to replay missions (gameblog is the less accurate gaming news site I can think of and this guy in particular is a sham).

Royal Mail though. I'd be over the moon if it arrived on Friday from SimplyGames. My GAME CE preorder has been dispatched too so I wonder when that'll turn up...

Royal Mail always deliver my things the very next day with first class postage

So what I'm hearing based on most reviews from places I pay attention to is that the story itself isn't as memorable as other main entries in the series. It's apparently still good, but just doesn't have the emotional highs or crazy crescendos that the others do. Can anyone confirm without spoilers? Story is honestly one of the most exciting things about MGS no matter how confusing and complicated it might be to me.

That said, I'm still going to play the shit out of and platinum TPP cause I'm a stealth game dude.

He also mentioned that the true ending not only broke the fourth wall but completely shattered it in his opinion

From what I gathered so far, it actually has the same amount of syory, maybe more. The reason why some feel is lacking is because they rushed the game. A lot, A LOT of story, dialogs, monologs, information is in the tapes you need to collect and listen to. To this comes of course that the game isn's as story dense since it's open world? bigger and scene doesn't follow scene.

I pre ordered from simply games at around half 2 today but still have no dispatch email, is there any chance left of it being sent out today for me?

So, having scanned troughout the reviews, I have a question: Is there as much story as in most traditional MGS games present or is it significantly less?

Since the game is much more open and longer I am sure the gameplay/story ratio is really different, but is there still a lot of material to the story itself? And there are more storylines aside from the main-one I've heard? Aaand how does it seem to fare when tapes/optional codec are taken out of the equation? (the core of the main story).

Also, in the way this game is set-up, I have no problems with the tapes btw. I disliked how PW's tapes were between missions, but now I can listen to them on various subject during my adventures on the map or at least while actually being Snake, a bit more akin to listening tapes in games like Bioshock for example. Not a huge difference, but one that matters a lot to me.

Oh shit.
I'd love it if the game ends just zooming out of the game world, then showing the planet Earth, then zooming out more to reveal that the Earth is ACTUALLY Kojima's eyeball, then zooming out further to— "did you like it?" CUE DRAMATIC HORN
