Not really. It's a known fact that Snake got in because Sakurai and Kojima are buddies and Kojima asked Sakurai because his kid wanted it.
Regardless of whether you like Snake or not, I'd say popularity is a better reason to get in than nepotism

Poor Layton, his thread died on the 9th page.
According to Tamaki's sources there's a strong chance he won't be revealed today and that it might not be until a couple of months down the line. His suggestion that SK could be revealed today is speculation based on Nintendo bringing Smash demo stations to PAX despite the game almost being a year old. That said, Yacht's "megaton" announcement is supposed to take place around the the Nindies event around 8 PM Pacific. Most likely they'll be announcing the Amiibo.

No problem! Ash's dude said he'd be revealed at PAx, but the guy we've been taking more seriously said that while he's on the way, the reveal may not be for a while.

I think what's happening is people got wind of a SK amiibo being revealed tonight (95% chance happening) and then proceeded to take the next logical step that SK is going to also be revealed in Smash tonight. Some with "inside sources" are saying tonight and others are saying "no it'll be later as part of the ballot dlc characters". Even if Shovel Knight isn't revealed tonight we probably won't know 100% if he will or won't be Smash DLC until after Nintendo officially reveals the winners/selections from the ballot.

I mean I honestly agree, even if I don't like Snake too much personally, since it's what ultimately opened the floodgates to other characters like Sonic and Megaman
I'm sure Snake being an immensely popular character and the chance for a huge WTF reveal had something to do with him saying yes.

Ugh, it's going to be a long few months.
Part of the reason some people might think he'll be shown tonight is because Smash is playable at PAX as well, and is the only Nintendo game there not showing off a new update or coming out in the future.

It's amazing. Buy it regardless. Plus we get the free plague of shadows expansion soon which will feature a new challenge mode and a brand new campaign with a new playable character

I mean if there's an amiibo he's basically confirmed. All of the sources doubled down on him being playable, so it's not a miscommunication or something about the amiibo existence.

They could just be going a step beyond the truth and assuming to get more attention. They could just have guessed the amiibo and be completely fake. The idea he'd get an amiibo isn't too hard to come up with. They could be misunderstanding something.

Yep. Though that's only when it starts, and it might not stream from the start either (remember, it's also a free event for people attending pax to play games, not just a way of making announcements)

It just doesn't make sense to bring Smash to this event, when they generally only bring unreleased games or brand new games. Maybe they're just doing a tournament or something, but I expect something new to be announced.
...We don't even know where they'll stream it! Unless it'll pop up suddenly on one of the two Twitch channels dedicated to PAX.

To be fair, Smash is like their "whatever lets just bring this" game. It was all over E3 even though it was a 2014 game.

Hm... maybe. Without Nintendo Directs, I guess the PAX event might be a good place to announce more DLC, but I am still not expecting any announcements.
Same here actually, the only character I supported that got in is Duck Hunt, but I only started supporting them a few weeks before they were leaked. Maybe I should stop supporting Dixie and a Rhythm Heaven rep.

Well they had just released new DLC. Plus it was probably to fill space since lets be honest they didn't announce too much new stuff at e3 this year

I probably shouldn't expect anything either, but I do.
Ryu, Lucas and Roy + two new stages + bunch of Mii costumes.
They're not just advertising Smash Bros. DLC on Twitter, they're also using promoted posts on Facebook as well (I've seen at least three so far; one from the Super Smash Bros. page, a different one from the Nintendo Console Gaming page, and yet another one from the Nintendo page). In addition to this, they've pushed out an ad for Smash Bros. DLC to the Wii U GamePad Quick Start Menu as well. Something's up...
I still don't think it's Shovel Knight, though. I refuse to believe that Sakurai would allow Shovel Knight in Smash Bros. alongside Sonic, Mega Man, PAC-MAN, and Ryu.

I think Shovel Knight would look pretty great among these characters. If he is in, I hope there's a screenshot of SK with Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man and Ryu.
You know I always wanted to write about Guest characters and if it's a good or a bad thing. For instance I don't want another guest character in MKX but looking at things maybe another movie character gets in. And that's another thing why movie characters? MK is all about gore so why not a game character that gores it up like they did with Kratos. Anyway I do feel like it cheapens a lot of games when there's to much other characters. I mean when the FOUR third party character were announced for Playstation All-stars people complained about it. But if Smash might get it's FIFTH character it's okay? I think there's an interesting thing to talk about here.
