Rumor (with a side of salt): Shovel Knight coming to Smash Wii U/3DS?

Well it could be that they're not done setting up the booth yet.

So that people who attend can try out Shovel Knight

They could get all meta on us and inside each of the demos theres hidden footage of 3 new characters after beating the demos perfectly........JUST GOTTA BELIEVE! Dont fail us now Ash!

Honestly I would take Cheep Cheep over King K. Rool. At least that fish is still relevant and appearing in new games.
 
I think, if Smash is going to continue expanding when the NX launches, we're going to see a lot more third-party characters join due to the simple fact that we've kind of hit saturation point with Nintendo characters. I feel there's not many first-party characters left who can really get the excitement and hype flowing. Excluding characters who've been repeatedly snubbed already (like K Rool and Ridley) the only obvious gaps in the roster to my mind are:

- Splatoon characters (Inklings and maybe Callie/Marie)
- Fire Emblem: Fates characters
- Waluigi
- Paper Mario

Of course, this is out of Sakurai's hands - Nintendo themselves have admitted they've been way too slow with creating new franchises.

I have a huge feeling it's a big jump in conclusions from these sources.

They probably saw "Smash Bros. compatiblity" and jumped to playable without thinking about the possibility of a Mii Costume, Trophy, or Assist.

Perhaps they saw the character in Smash first? And then made the logical assumption an amiibo must be coming because SK is going to be in Smash? That assumption can work both ways. Currently we have to do it the amiibo -> maybe in smash because we've only seen the amiibo.
 
I honestly can't see Shovel Knight being in Smash Bros. now that we've seen the art and description in the accidental listing.

It's not a Smash Bros. Amiibo, and if it the art isn't final, the listing would have advertised it as such. It is the first third party Amiibo, and that's it.

It will probably unlock a costume or something in Smash Bros. but I really believe S.K. is not a character.

But characters can have more than one amiibo!
 
So on the Nindies event. Looking over the EMP website link yacht club just tweeted out, I'd assume any announcement would happen during the presentation Damon Baker is giving which according to Nintendo's press release will be at 9 PM Pacific time

I think a good "indie" focused smash/traditional fighting game would be best. Have more room for all of them and none of them get overshadowed by the "big boys"

I dunno, wouldn't it save so much time and energy if they didn't have to recreate the roster like they've done with the past four games? I have to imagine that there's a pretty comparable level of effort put into that as there is to programming in the newcomers. That could severely trim down the amount of time that is needed for development and allow them to focus on new content.

It's not just an issue of having to make those characters but also balance them against each other, Q&A test them, etc. The more "parts" there are the harder this becomes in general. Fighting game rosters start to get unwieldy and intimidating after a certain size I feel. Smash is probably on the edge of that right now.

This really should have happened by now. I think the only good 'big name' indie crossover so far has been 1001 spikes.

So it got me thinking about Shovel Knight and it would be pretty easy to alter Zelda's Phantom to save on resources like the article states

Huh.....never noticed the Ryu Shulk one.
 
I sorta see the Ryu/Shulk animation sharing as a bit reaching; like yeah, it's the same pose, but there's only so many different ways you can have different realistic human characters have a different pose when uppercut by Mac.

Ness and Lucas obviously but they already shared quite a lot in the first place. I think they scrapped Lucas' unique pose for his FS in Smash 4 though which sucks. Roy and Robin similarly since Roy's already a luigified clone of Marth, so sharing some stuff in common with another FE rep isn't too weird.

I feel though, Nintendo would have had prior knowledge of Shovel Knight's inclusion for a while now, the first Amiibo of S.K. WOULD have been the Smash Bros. Amiibo.

It would be more resourceful to have one definitive Shovel Knight Amiibo over producing two so close together.

I thought YCG was paying for this one though, the second probably won't come until like next spring after Ryu.
 
Can we get some Belmonts in the house? Or maybe Dracula/Alucard? Konami used to have great presence on NIntendo consoles.



On the real though, I only want some DLC because I'm expecting more Ganon buffs ;)

Fixed that for you, unless we get a Smash Pachinko machine I don't think you'll see Konami characters in Smash, I'd say any random indie has a higher chance at this stage

I'd love belmont, but only because it completes the captain N team (minus captain N obviously).

Play as mega man, simon belmont, and pit (and duck hunt maybe - giving you both the dog and captain N's zapper) on the game boy stage with the mother brain assist trophy on 3DS!

Boy how i'd love that, but I can't even begin to imagine who holds his character rights at this point.

If it was with nintendo i'd bet we'd have gotten a STICKER at least in brawl.

Also Simon belmont should be 100% based off his captian N version.

Unfortunately it's unfinished and pretty much in the can. Hopefully one of the "big" indie companies works on a crossover indie fighter. Imagine Yacht Club making an indie Smash-like game.

Just saying to not take assumptions as fact. It could be all sorts of reasoning, and the Smash rumor could still turn out false too.

Way too many people are doing that these days, and it begins this train of thought that tends to bring false facts that got spread.
