Rumor (with a side of salt): Shovel Knight coming to Smash Wii U/3DS?

Where is my Smash announcement? D:

If we are indeed getting Shovel Knight in Smash, it won't be anytime soon (I.E. it most likely won't be that August 31st maintenance check).

Pack it up, folks. The hype train went off the rails.

Dude, you never know what you're talking about. Hype trains going strong, amiibo basically confirms Shovel Knights on the way.

The Amiibo doesn't confirm or deconfirm Shovel Knight for Smash, as Amiibo is unrelated to Smash. We're just gonna have to sit back, relax, & watch the rest of this rumor reveal itself as either real or fake. We just don't know right now, & shouldn't jump to conclusions of Shovel Knight being in the game or not.

Snake added to the game for free as an unlock. No one can find how to unlock him, and when they dump the files they find nothing abnormal.

Eventually as someone is playing weeks later, Snake shows up and challenges someone unexpectedly. They take to the Internet, but no one believes them.

His splash trailer will say "Snake sneaks in!"...how to unlock him in Smash is left as clues in MGSV, but no one gets it for months.

Sorry if I disappointed you, but this isn't happening.

I mean, I already thought about something like this and disappointed myself, so you're golden!

I don't think a non-presence at Nindies@Night derails anything. This was an event meant for Indie devs to promote their own Indie games, with the biggest being the Shovel Knight Amiibo. Although Shovel Knight in Smash would be a big moment for Yacht Club Games and Indie games in general, it would take away the entire focus of the event and put it onto Smash. I mean, let's face it, that's why a lot of us were keeping up with it, right? It could have made sense to reveal Shovel Knight now, but I can see them waiting until later into PAX, too.
Or better yet, the maintenance may have nothing to do with Shovel Knight, but may still suggest DLC's on its way. I mean, we're all still expecting Wolf, right?

The amiibo is unrelated to smash, but the people who told us the amiibo was coming are 100% positive he's coming to smash. Basically, but not completely confirmed.

We can't be sure at the moment. If you recall, Tamaki was never told about the Amiibo, it was just an observation based on the rumored listings. All he was told was that Shovel Knight was coming to Smash. Like I said in my previous post, it's best if we just sit back & let the rumor prove itself as either legit or as a fraud. It's not the time to jump to conclusions either way.

If the maintenance does spell out some "new content" down the line, expect a potential patch to be datamined once more for clues assuming Nintendo haven't learned from the first time.

There is a slim chance that we still have an announcement on the way (and maybe Nintendo wanted to wait for an optimal chance to announce it rather than this early/late) but the original rumor maintained that SK's announcement at this particular day wasn't a guarantee.

Right now this seems like one of those horrid "wait and see" situations. Something like Rayman was debunked fairly quickly but I think this is going to take a while unfortunately. Might not even be until well after the ballot closes. If the rumor is fake this is one of those things that will only die off through time.

We can be sure that all of the sources that confirmed the Shovel Knight Amiibo are sure that Shovel Knight is coming to smash bros independently of his amiibo.

Hm... Now I am kinda hoping the rumor is true, the more I think, the more interesting the idea of Shovel Knight in Smash sounds.

For this amiibo to not "deconfirm" Shovel Knight, Nintendo would need to be producing two Shovel Knight amiibo SKUs at essentially the same time.

It's not reasonable to assume that Nintendo is making two different figures for Shovel Knight.

judging by the immediate sellout, I think they made about 80 of these Shovel Knight amiibos. they've got the resources to make more amiibos.

While that may be, Yacht have made it clear that an SK amiibo is a concept they've been working on for well over a year. If SK is a character that was selected based on the actual ballot like the rumor suggests, making a second amiibo would probably be irregardless of this. Plus, the amiibo in itself is currently in a prototype stage.

Nintendo isn't making the Shovel Knight Amiibo.

The amiibo is a prototype, but they have designed a non-Smash box, a non-Smash base, and they're taking pre-orders right now based on those non-Smash elements.

If they were planning on making a non-Smash Shovel Knight amiibo, and then later decided to have him as a DLC character for Smash, it would make a lot more sense to just swap out the base and the box before printing a large number of figurines, rather than printing two of the same character, with the Smash one coming second.

I want to play as Shovel Knight in Smash Bros., but not as much as I want all of you to be wrong and to be crying bitter tears by the end of the weekend.

I don't think it's weird. You have the standard Shovel Knight and then a Smash Bros Shovel Knight. The standard is "coming soon" (assuming this year) while the latter would probably be for next year (probably following Roy, Lucas, and Ryu who weren't given dates yet).

But if all of us are wrong, then Shovel Knight is and isn't in Smash Bros, how does that work? :P Some believe/want to believe the rumor but most of the others are on the "don't believe it until is confirmed" train, which is perfectly understandable.

Now I wat a Schrodinger's cat amiibo.

The basic idea is that they don't think Shovel Knight has enough draw to get 2 amiibos on the market in a sustainable way and that it would just make more sense to have 1 amiibo.

What this fails to realize is that it appears YCG has been working on this and is producing this themselves-- likely not in huge quantities. This still gives Nintendo the ability to license the character and create a second Smash-based amiibo in much larger quantities. Both will work in both games the same way.

So...sadly, if you want this SK amiibo this year- good luck because it's probably going to be hard to find.

Edit: Not implying SK is in Smash and is getting a second amiibo, but if YCG is putting it out don't expect huge quantities.

Why?

Why make two?

Why make the "first" one a non-Smash, regular figure amiibo?

Why make the first non-Mario second figure for the same character be a third party indie?

Why have the Smash figure second?

What would be the point, from Nintendo's perspective?

Money, I'm guessing. Since Nintendo didn't make this Amiibo, I doubt that they get much of the profits from it. With a Smash Amiibo, Nintendo most likely gets the biggest cut of the profits.

How would Shovel Knight warrant two Amiibos?

Star Fox has a game with Amiibo support coming in the prime November slot. Him and Falco aren't getting second Amiibos. Are you saying Shovel Knight is a bigger draw than Star Fox.

Keep in mind that the Mario series Amiibo is clearly cheaper to produced than their Smash counterparts based on design.

If Shovel Knight was coming too Smash wouldn't they just wait a few months and make Shovel Knight part of the Smash line?

Regardless if Shovel Knight is coming or not. It's really wonderful how a almost a year after the release of the 3DS version of the game we're still wondering about characters that are going to end up in smash 4. I wonder how long it'll actually last before Sakurai moves on.

Nintendo wants all the money.

So, rather than saying "No" to Yacht Club and just making their own Smash amiibo, they instead allow Yacht Club to create a figure that will cannibalize sales of their own Smash amiibo, which they didin't have to do...for no reason? Even though they, supposedly, know that they're going to produce a Smash figure themselves?

The problem with "follow the money" reasoning here is that you actually have to follow the money.

I don't know why you're pretending that the amiibo bubble has burst yet.

It hasn't.

Since Yacht Club is making this Amiibo wouldn't a Smash Amiibo instantly cut into their own Amiibo sales and vice-versa. I don't really see it benefiting either party to have both.

They probably can't say anything.

Even if it was true, they would probably not be allowed to say anything.

Well if they did respond and clearly said no we would at least know that much. If they don't respond so be it.

Nothing was datamined from the last patch. Apparently Nintendo has learnt all about that trick and fixed it.

Nintendo games, huh? It'd be pretty cool to see Shovel Knight as a consistent guest - Smash, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis (shovel racket mmm~), etc. My worries are that it will just be a Shovel Knight costume though.

That said, the base probably doesn't mean anything. If there was indeed a Smash logo, it would spoil the reveal. I think we can all agree that if the amiibo was intended for Smash, they'd use a prototype that didn't have the normal base.

It actually does have the Smash logo in the concept art, which is interesting. Maybe at the time of sketching, that was wishful thinking on YCG's part. But you'd think that the concept base would just be blank or include the final Shovel Knight art if it was 100% not smash related.

Although, that concept base does kind of look like a render, so it may just be a stock render of an amiibo base provided by Nintendo.

Huh. Would've bet Sakurai would've tweeted something around this time if there's anything coming out on Monday with the maintenance. I suppose it took him until another hour from now with Shulk, but I'm guessing its just going to be routine maintenance at this point.

If a certain someone is sneaking into battle, you wouldn't want to announce it too far ahead...

Let me dream ; _ :
