Rumor (with a side of salt): Shovel Knight coming to Smash Wii U/3DS?

So are they seriously just going to randomly tweet out "now you can play as Shovel Knight" tomorrow?
Not sure if sarcasm, but like I said, we would have heard something by now if the update was anything big (like a character). Though as I've said in the past, I would absolutely love to be wrong.

Shovel Knight or not, just in case that patch lands tonight/tomorrow and counts as a balance update, I'm uploading the replays I have left to YouTube. I'd recommend everybody else do the same!

Well they randomly pr'd tons of game info and release date. With Iwata's passing, Nintendo hasn't done any kinda hype videos/directs or nothing. I honesly wouldn't be surprised. Tho its a missed opportunity not to do it at the Nindie event. Of course, SK could not be in the game but I wouldn't be surpised at any character being just tweeted out at this rate. Last time, we only got Mii Costumes. We are overdue on atleast one character and maintenence points to character so who knows.

How much more longer until tweets start, and until the actual maintenence completion?

we'll know something's up when NoJ's twitter suddenly starts shitting out a million tweets about who and what shovel knight is within the next 24 hours

Revealing a character at the Nindies event would've taken all the interest off of the actual Indie games and put it onto Smash. It wouldn't even be over Shovel Knight or Yacht Club Games themselves, but over a controversial, surprising newcomer. I think it's for the best that they didn't show off an indie newcomer there.

Honestly, I still find it weird that they'd wait until the day after PAX to simultaneously hype, reveal, and release DLC (At least the Roy/Ryu reveal was hyped up a week in advance). I still think that some DLC was planned for a PAX reveal, but was delayed for whatever reason. They figured that they might just use the scheduled maintenance window for a tune-up for their service rather than delay it until a later, 12 AM PST time. As for NoA's social media suddenly pushing the old DLC all weekend, my guess is that they were originally supposed to be ads for the now-delayed DLC. They were afraid that the ads for it might've shown up on some people's feeds despite them taking it down, so rather than risk a leak, they decided to replace it with old ads for 2 month old content as a fail safe.

This might also explain why Nintendo initially announced that Smash would be at PAX, despite not bringing any booths for it or mentioning it in promotional material after PAX had started. We were getting DLC this weekend, but it was all pushed back.

Hhmm...a delayed character does make abit of sense when you put the pieces together like that.

Also someone from the Smash DLC thread noted that Excitebike VS is supposed to come out tomorrow(Not Thursday) too. I wonder if perhaps there was a Excitebike character or Mii Costume planned. Nintendo's missing direct is really starting to make everything feel out've balance.

And yeah, I see how revealing a character at the Nindies event would've put all the focus on that. It still seems odd not to do it if SK was/is supposed to come tomorrow. Maybe makes more sense if he got delayed since both things were too close together.

Ok guys.....guys...guys?

Why did this get bumped again? I know there isn't another rumor for Shovel Knight being in Smash right? I've moved on, the rest of us should too :P

Er, why have you moved on? The rumor said we should expect SK before November. We're talking about it now because everything's pointing to a DLC update tomorrow.

Maybe Sakurai will put in Snake no matter what because now that Iwata's dead, Kojima is the only friend he has left.

Edit: I meant only true close friend in the industry the way he and Iwata were and how he and Kojima are. Sorry for the confusion!

This is the same guy who made a Robin Williams choking joke the same day he died, so my expectations were already pretty low, but wow.

I guess it'd be a bit difficult to write out a ton of different character choices for the newcomers section, but putting down something like 'K. Rool' meant there's a few other King/Kaptain instances or just misspellings of characters who're being treated as different submissions in that poll.

Regardless, went with Snake, Wolf, K. Rool and Inkling.

Obviously I would vote for four characters that I would love to see. Hopefully people would remember who I'm rooting for.
I can really only remember you wanting Isaac in. Who else do you want?

Anyway, Source Gaming is doing the poll on what if we are getting 4 more DLC characters.

Vets are boring, especially since we already have got back the most requested ones. And Wolf is inevitable.

I went with 4 newcomers: Wonder Red, Hades, Inkling, Isaac

Not that this poll counts for anything, but it was nice to see most of my choices getting high up in the results.

... I checked the results of that poll to see how my votes were doing (Bayo and Wonder Red are doing better than I thought. Ridley? Not so much. And I think I'm the only vote for Sami), but I never bothered to see how Shovel Knight was doing. I was curious about him (And Layton, after last week's rumor), but I didn't think to look until after I closed that tab. Is there any way to go back to the results without voting again?

Check your History. It should be there.

This isn't a very serious poll, and I'm not sure if I will use the data for anything. Just something to talk about as I don't think a character will be released soon.

Not a fan of the direction this is going in.

It used to be that being allowed to participate in Smash Bros. was a privilege, but now it seems like Nintendo will let anyone join that's ever had a game on a Nintendo system.

Shovel Knight's not confirmed, though; it's just a rumor! Same thing with the whole Professor Layton deal last week. As of right now, the only guest fighters are Pac-Man, Sonic, Mega Man, and Ryu. All 4 have been undeniably influential on gaming as a whole, and have had a strong presence on Nintendo systems, so they fit right in, in my opinion!

Even then, though, Layton is pretty close to Nintendo (Right down to them publishing it in some parts of the world and the character being a DS Family exclusive), and Nintendo's trying to show support for Indie Devs, which Shovel Knight's currently the poster child for. Again, neither are confirmed; we just have rumblings from the somewhat-trustworthy Tamaki and Layton's voice actor doing lines for what he thinks might be Smash. Nonetheless, I think the two of them'd fit without compromising anything. I mean, we had Snake in the last game; they're far more Nintendo than he was (But I still desperately want him back, too)!

Even if no DLC is announced I wouldn't be surprised if the game had some interesting files updated in preparation for future DLC. Probably nothing leak worthy but they've got to know by now how many character slots they need to implement or how many new franchise icons will be needed.
