Rumor (with a side of salt): Shovel Knight coming to Smash Wii U/3DS?

Here's what's going to happen tonight:

- Maintenance starts and soon after ends. Everyone puts Smash on their Wii U and runs the game.
- The game installs a new patch and starts. We check every menu and mode and... nothing. All the update brought was replay videos that can no longer be played.
- After messing around for a while and finding nothing, people start quitting the game.
- Some people notice Splatoon also has a patch downloaded, so they install it and run the game.
- Game starts as normal, but Callie and Marie say they have a very special announcement to make.
- Screen goes black, we hear the dual sword sound, fiery Smash logo shows, followed by the Inkling trailer for Smash.

That'd be pretty damn rad

Is it bad I would prefer starting the game, only to have the challenger approaching image show up and having to fight Snake?

Snake sneaks in is just...too good.

Bah. I still think they can get Bayonetta to work without making her overly-sexy/relying on using any of her guns. She could just pose somewhat seductively (No worse than Palutena's pole-dancing taunt), and her moveset could utilize her other weapons/summoning demons, not unlike how Snake's moveset focused on tactical explosives. Just make sure she doesn't lose her clothes-hair as she uses magic and she's golden. As far as "not fitting in," this is a game that has Pikachu and Ike in the same universe. The previous game could also have Solid Snake and Wolf O'Donnell standing right by the 2 of them. I'm sure she'd be fine.

Wait, this thread is still alive? So the rumor actually has some weight to it?

Somewhat? The guy who was adamant we'd be seeing Shovel Knight is Tamaki from Unseen64. He's gotten the scoop on upcoming game info/info on well-buried, unannounced cancelled games before... But he's also made hoaxes on numerous occasions, as well.

A lot of the speculation here was fueled by the leak of the Shovel Knight Amiibo, but Tamaki claimed we were getting SK in Smash, and he knew about the Amiibo reveal at PAX prior to a listing popping up on some website. He might be trolling, but he's adamant we'll see SK within a month or two, and that he's close to completion. Plus, Source Gaming met with him, and they were confident enough to post an article about the rumor (They were 80% sure, but they're a site with strong integrity about leaks; their 80% is another site's 99%).

At this point, the thread's only alive because it's now nigh-indistinguishable from the Ballot thread. It's just on the busier Gaming Board instead of the Community one. Nothing new's come out specifically about SK since PAX; it's just been speculated that a PAX reveal was planned, but cancelled. People thought the Nindie event at PAX was the perfect time to reveal SK, so that's why this thread was bustling last week. Some people also think the fact that SK got an Amiibo is a foot in the door for him. The rumor's still alive, but with PAX come-and-gone, it's currently dormant, and Tamaki's credibility is weaker.

Maybe, maybe not. But until it is proven fake, the thread will be alive.

Yes

thew maintenance tonight is independent to this rumor, Unseen64 said it would be a few months until Shovel Knight, the stuff around tonight's weirdness is unrelated.

So if nothing happens tonight, it doesn't necessarily mean SK isn't happening.

"Shovel Knight will be revealed in a few months because you'll most likely forget about our rumor by then"

How can they even know something like that ahead of time?

I think there's a possibility that his source isn't lying but interpreted what he saw as something it's not. Maybe he saw the prototype SK amiibo which had a smash base and a SK mii costume. Would explain a lot and I wouldn't get upset with the source because of it

Two things that could fit this: they saw the amiibo + the black knight Mii costume both in development. Seeing both of these in development could make someone think Shovel Knight is in if they 1) have no idea who Black Knight is and 2) design docs are not in color.

I have a strange feeling that's what the leaker saw and came to a conclusion they shouldn't have came to.

Retailers broh

But the source was adamant it wasn't about the amiibo

Very easily; every newcomer but Rosalina and the FE Newcomers were leaked far in advance, as were a bunch of stages and other features, like 8-Player Smash. Besides, after this wild ride, I think this is going to be a rumor remembered by SmashGAF ala the Palutena "leak" and the Rayman hoax, regardless of its validity. We're not going to forget it so soon.

That makes sense, honestly, especially if Tamaki hasn't seen SK himself. I mean, even if his source claims that the Amiibo has nothing to do with it, there could easily be confusion about SK's role somewhere. I mean, if Commander.Video can get a trophy, Shovel Knight's at least worthy of a Mii Costume. I still believe that's what happened to poor Spainkiller, too.

Speaking of Spainkiller, every character he mentioned are or were in Smash at some point (with moving models)... Except Dixie... Hm...
Wait till the maintenance and update before you go saying that. :P
Better wait until the next DLC character is announced, since the maintenance have nothing to do with the SK rumor.

Lol yeah right but people can dream

Well it's not happening folks, at least you tried.

Regardless of whether or not it was Shovel Knight, I'm still sold that we were going to get something last weekend, and that it was simply delayed. I don't think this maintenance means anything now, though. I mean, it's not at the normal time for scheduled maintenance (Hence why I think there was going to be a character here), but it was scheduled ahead of time, so why not use this to their advantage?

ETA till the maintenance? I want to see someone hack the data and see if any tidbits were left in like with the Roy/Ryu incident.

I doubt that it would happens since they probably learned their lesson this time. Last time they updated the game, the files were very clean.

I'm not defending anyone here but Dr. CupCake should know the risks if he's going to leak something. Once the leaks came out, there are always misinformations floating around. He was associated with Unseen64 so of course some people would like to use that to further thier agency. It's a unfortunate situation.

If his source is wrong, people are going to pin/blame it on Takami and Unseen64 because he's the one whom decided to leak it, and he's associated with Unseen64. I have seen it happened a lot. I hope that the outcome of this situation would be good.
