R. Mika's popularity in Street Fighter is baffling

It's sexualized, but it's also decently contextualized beyond "here's a hot chick doing hot things for the sole purpose of being hot"

+1 for Haggar
Yeah. I think it helps that her character is also over the top and silly. If she was supposed to be super serious it would be harder to look past.

People expected this for so long, I think it might happen. SFIV had Cody, Guy, Poison and Hugo but no Haggar repping. I think I would prefer more original characters but I would never say no to the Pipe.

Crossing my fingers. He was in Marvel 3 tho so it hasn't been a while since no one saw him. Hope this doen't lessen his chances somehow.

Yeah, those people who have opinions must be wrong OP.

Am i the only one who earnestly played as her during the old days? I liked her obtuse closelines and crazy headbuts that also hurt her own head.

Just a fun character.

The only reason i see people attempting to attack her now is because of what she's wearing, which is more actually compared to Elena, who got no complaints in her return. Which is strange considering how racist Elena's otufit is as the stereotypical african tribesperson with storm hair that every black woman has to have in Japan.

Aleast Mika is wearing clothes similar to actual wrestlers, and she acts the part too.

I played as Mika a bit, but back then I couldn't really do what was needed to play her efficiently (cough * 360s * cough). Was also a Dreamcast pad player back then, and a crappy one at that, lol.

I've wanted to see her return since. I mean she pulled her own ring into the match for god's sake, how can anyone not appreciate how well she ripped the stereotype / trope?

That said, I'm preparing myself if Karin gets into the game, as always is the case "hurr durr who plays this shitty charctturr bunch of waifu-lovin losers and virgins and shit"

...never mind the fact she was my main throughout Alpha 3.

Whatevs' though. I enjoy the female cast members of games more than the males, so it's par for the course, lol.

I want that Cammy alt, wish it was the default

Same, 100 percent.

I really don't want to support this exclusive pre-order culture bullshit... but that Cammy alt is very tempting.

No Mika fan here, but I'll reserve judgement until I get a feel for her moves in training mode. Nadeshiko assists looks unique.

I love fan-service, but my most-used female in SF ever is probably Rose, who's designed rather conservatively (outside her fortune-teller dress) compared to others.

Same to all of that. Karin and Sakura were usually my mains. I liked Karin way more than Fei Long because she had so many air attacks as well as her forward thrusts(don't know the fighting game lingo terms)

They'll be unlockable eventually after the game comes out

The character doesn't appeal to me personally, just don't find the character interesting aesthetically. The charcter's popularity doesn't escape me though, I can see the sex appeal factor at the very least. I got nothing against scantily clad characters, but find R. Mika boring and think her costume is surprisingly ugly.

I don't think she's popular, but there are a very dedicated group of folks who like her. And thats fine, I still think she looks dumb. But its fine.

No one playing Soul Calibur is pretending Ivy is anything more than she appears, so the same should apply here.

But as your quoted article says, some people take more issue with "serious female characters" that nevertheless dress in unserious ways. They're "deep, complicated" characters that still dress like strippers for unestablished reasons. I would say Ivy falls into that category.

R. Mika - from what little I know of her - seems to be more like a campy WWE character that embraces what her persona is.

:lawd

I was planning on buying a PS4 for this game but now I want to preorder.

Thanks.

Rekkas (IIRC based off of Fei Long's Rekka-ken move).

What was so sick about her too was that she basically had a branching path off her Rekkas, so she could go from Rekka to double kick, Rekka to slide, Rekka to counter (to bait reactions)... man she is fun as hell all around.

They'll be unlockable eventually after the game comes out

True, true... just going to have to be patient, heh. I don't think I even have a choice in the matter since I plan to get it for PC, lol.

Am I imagining things, or did her level 3 grab super actually hurt HER sometimes when you landed it?

I distinctly remember landing it on people, and one out of every 10 times or so, during the headbutt part, she's get hurt and THE SUPER WOULD END.

And, I'd be salty.

(BTW, yes, I definitely played her in A3. Still don't get her run super, lol.)

I honestly forgot if something causes this, but I do kinda' remember it lol.

Know who Harley Quinn is?

If so know R Mika is sorta like her in the silly but fun kinda way.

Maybe some murderous intent.

No, entierly different appeal. No where near as popular , even in her own game. She just has a small dedicted fanbase. It just so happens one of those people is ono, the guy who makes these things.

If mika is anyone, it squirrel girl.

I'm right there with you. I've never bought a game at Best Buy before, but that's who i'm going with this time because of that Cammy alt. I was just shocked to see the reaction to that Ryu alt. Both Twitter and Tumblr (and now this forum) are going nuts over him.

Squirrel Girl?

Hell no.

Never mind the fact that she was terrible and unfun in Alpha 3 (one of the weakest characters in the game for those who haven't played),
but isn't she a little transparent to anyone? I mean, she's basically like a woman from a Dead or Alive or Soul Calibur game shoved into Street Fighter. I know that she's a wrestler, and I know that wrestling girls are supposed to be exploitative, but that doesn't make it any less exploitative.

Well that's like, just your opinion not a fact

Jaycee from Tekken Tag 2 is a comparably better design. It has no shortage of fanservice but its still relatively more balanced than Mika's design.

Agreed, R.Mika looks like a female wrestler drawn by a teenager's dick

It's also devoid of any personality. Much like Julia herself.

Julia has little personality, yes.

The persona Jaycee, however has as much personality as R. Mika does. Julia is almost a completely different character from Jaycee, personality-wise.

She's an adorable Japanese wrestler, thought it was pretty simple.

One of the complaints that people have had about SFV is that there are way too many familiar faces, particularly from SF1/2. So Mika's not only a breath of fresh air from that perspective, she's turned out to have one of the most unique movesets of any character in the history of SF. There's no doubt that her appearance has caused a lot of hype (and also negativity), but don't be so quick to dismiss the character and why people are hyped about her because of that.

Now you've done it, somebody's gonna mod a Squirrel Girl outfit for R. Mika!

Idk she looks pretty cool to me.

Mika's hilarious and fun. I like her.

But…
The Stone Cold Stunner!

Yep yep yep yep!!

Around the time of Street Fighter Alpha I was deep into WCW and WWF. The fact that she was a wrestler in the WCW/WWF style and not a Mother Russia serious sport wrestler made me like her more than Gief. She was wacky with her butt attack, and her wrestling moves. I actually liked the character.

Now Karin...

As if those people care about her moves outside of the animations. Vega was being redone, but that didn't matter.
