Halo 5 Opening Cinematic

I don't want them to throw in every type of scene. I want the ugly ones out. That's how good art design and cinematography are done. You choose a stunning and manageable palette and stick with a methodology. 343 has no methodology. They use colors at random, even when they aren't flattering to a scene or assets, and they especially aren't consistent across a game in order to give it any kind of color signatures. Their scenes just have so much bloom and red and yellow and purple in muted tones so they don't even add flare to the scene. It's just a very muddled and poorly restrained palette in my opinion, and that's it. It's bothered me all along with their projects.

Yeah, it's your opinion. I understand. For my part, I really don't care. I like what they are doing in an artistic way. But I can understand that it's not your case. I don't think its a bad art design at all (only in this scene): Halo events are set in other planets, in other galaxies. DIfferent atmospheres lead to different tones.

Fucking epic. OTT and balls to the wall fucking awesome.

Screw the 'waa action movie' nonsense, this pumps you up for the fight to come. There's no reason there aren't more subdued and restrained cut-scenes in there.

As for the speed and ease of their passage, they're travelling down a mountain with an incredible amount of momentum through a battle already clearly taking place. It's not the Somme, it's 'punch through and get on with it at mach 1'. The Covies are fighting something - each other? Prometheans? - and the Spartans arrive in the midst of it all, clear a path, and 'go player'. Yeah, it's not like gameplay. But if the gameplay gives you that scale and at least a hint of that power, then BOOM.

I bet Star Wars fans would complain if Disney added space pirates

Cool trailer but I found it oddly off putting for the game itself.

I'm not into the expanded Universe lore, I'm worn out by idea of fighting more covenant and this trilogy is starting to feel like Star Wars prequels vs original trilogy for me. Better effects but losing the mystique in the process.

I reckon this will be first Halo mainline Halo I don't get at launch. I'll wait to see how opinions on online go after launch as I didn't like Halo 4 online much.
Here's the problem: so far we haven't been provided with an adequate alternative to the Covenant. The Flood definitely aren't suitable as the main enemy force unless they're totally reinvented, and the Forerunner enemies from Halo 4 are straight up trash. I mean, I'm sorry to fling crap at the devs' efforts here, but for me they are honestly not fun to fight, at all. They are the opposite of fun to fight. They're like a collection of the most annoying enemy traits and behaviors in FPS history. They don't even look cool.

I meant with space pirate hats and space pirate cutlasses and space pirate parrots.

Actually, all of that could be awesome, but it wouldn't be Star Wars.

That was pretty cool. While I know mainline games have tended to be a bit "tell, don't show" about the Spartans, Halo Wars had them behaving like this in cutscenes, and that was awesome.

Still, two things - the dive doesn't feel like it has impact like some of the ones the Chief does, partially because of the too easy landing, and partially because of the rampant scale cheating on the Covvie ships making it feel unreal - these must be drones with one deck or something for it to remotely work.

And it doesn't do anything to solve the problems that Osiris continues to be so unlikable (sans Buck) it feels like they exist only to due horribly at some point. Working for Palmer reinforces that.

Love it! It feels so fresh in aesthetics and animations. There is more of a space opera than a sci-fi and thats great.

This trailer also makes me wish for an Halo game with the gameplay of Sunset Overdrive, jumping and shooting armies of enemies and just beeing a badass.

3rd person Halo game where are you. Maybe one day...
ODST even.

Liked it. While impressive and epic, I'm not a fan of the battlefield action, though, but it's been debated to death already, and I have nothing new to add about that.
Glad there is something else before that cutscene. I hope it's more substantial, and goes deeper on where the universe is at before the game starts.

All I can think of is how fucking cool that all looked and how it all comes together perfectly with the music, dialogue, choreography - everything.

Release feels so faaaaaaar away :(

Frankie, appreciate you cant go into specifics but how soon can we expect to hear series 2 of HtT? I need my intense, nerve shredding weekly Halo fix.

Seeing all the new technology focused on mobility within the universe means they didn’t stop developing the Spartan IV’s since their inception. Hopefully they didn’t screw around with the company that built the Railgun.

That looks much more artfully color adjusted than 343's attempts have ever looked. They have a stale daytime look with bloom lighting.

MP maps look even worse, every map is tinted yellow, green or blue gross.

Trailer was awesome, though a lil over the top.

Halo seems really heavily critiqued on GAF which is fine, just an observation. I jumped in when MCC came out and I fell in love with the universe. Reading the books atm.

I disliked the Flood and I love the Promethean so what do I know. I also liked Halo 4 campaign.

Never touched the multiplayer, I'm terrible at FPS but I'll start playing it in Halo 5.

I always say that whenever a new Halo comes out. Then I still stick with campaign and a bit of coop. :)

Currently re-reading Ghost or Onyx. Damn good book.

Watched the trailer and I'm officially hyped. Not many sci-fi lore as extensive as Halo and I'm glad it see it's still getting me excited.

Not really a fan of Locke (team MC!), but loving the interaction the team has.

Holy shit that was pretty good - I'm hoping the gameplay matches the cinematic!

Really liked the odst esque intro with them just in the ship - it ramped up to crazy levels very quickly though!

I have to say I worry halo is basically turning into avengers the video game but at this point I doubt 343 could nail traditional halo - I'm just going to enjoy it for what it is

Halo 4's MP was an extreme let down to me. But this one looks like it's going to back to it's roots. I think they were taking it back to Halo 2's leveling system (rewarding players for being good and not just for playing). For those old enough to remember, when you finally got you moon, you knew you were part of the best.

Flipping the image seems to suggest Argentina? At least that is what the blurry location information says. Conrad's Point whatever that is.

Well, I don't think that is any represantation of actual gameplay. We have seen gameplay videos and it's not that fast paced. My guess is, that it's just showing off the action aspects and the Armor Abilities, of course.

You probably won't be able to run, shoot and jump arround like a madman. As always, just speculation and I'd like to be proven wrong.

Damn good vid, but one legit question. Why do spartans have nice, clean haircut? Both Fillion and the woman look like as if they were models or something.

Cautiously hyped after that.

As someone who always thought there was a disconnect between the books and games in terms of presenting Spartans as Super Solidiers, this trailer made me smile.

That said, it does raise the question of whether or not 343 can deliver in the gameplay department, and I worry that the cinematic is a bit too OTT and the gameplay does not hit the same bar.

Especially bearing in mind that Guardians campaign is going to live or die by the squad AI (IMO) - this has me a bit torn - if the AI is up to snuff (hopefully Tim Longo's Republic Commando experience helps here), and the mobility gameplay enhancements flow well then Guardians could be something special. If not... could be a clusterfuck!

Some other observations
+ Music - I might be more hyped for Jinnouchi's OST than the game!!
+ Great CG work
+ After a few watches, it's clear that Osiris is NOT simply obliterating a Covenant ground army; this army was already under Orbital attach and dealing with opposing Covenant ground forces (Arbiter?). Osiris is constantly on the move and only engage enemy forces when necessary. So I don't think it's as OTT as the initial watch suggests...

- It does evoke some Avengers vibes

One thing I'm thinking - a lot of people have noted that Locke is a flat emotionless character, with no personality. I'm guessing that he's got a story arc and we will see the character grow, and the Master Chief's state of mind at the end of Halo 4 might have something to play in that arc, just possibly. I hope so anyway!

That looks like a favela.

Why's "Forerunner Activity" the correct way as opposed to the rest of the screen?

Halo 4's multiplayer is pretty much the only mode I want to play in MCC, it's so much better than Halo 3's MP. H2A is passable but a big no to the custom PC H1 maps which are just terrible.

I'm hyped as shit but I can't watch. I don't want to spoil stuff and this sounds bad for that. I'd rather have holy shit moments when I play.
