OctoCamo was terrible, it was like playing Snake Eater with Action Replay.

I kinda like the UI minimalism of the camp in TPP, you still need different types of camo for different environments.

Lol! That's true.

One thing I don't really like is that the areas on the map between bases appear to be empty and useless filler space. At most, the streets are used for convoys that you need to attack. Combined with the lack of inner-map fast-travel, going from A to B can be a chore.

Maybe something changes, I am still pretty early in the game. But I don't understand why you can't use the chopper to fast-travel.

Really need some help with one of the important side ops late in the game, so if you haven't got far in the story don't read this.
Number 144
Secure the Remains of the Man on Fire

Where the hell is it? I've cleared the outpost and interrogated all the guards and I'm no closer.

This one is damn hilarious.
He's in the middle/center of the base, it took me a while too. It's a case of you think he'll be hidden elaborately but no, he's out in the open at the middle/center of the base.

Yup. MGS4 gameplay sucked because of that reason. Octocamo was just ridiculous. Well, that and the infinite ammo and weapons you can get and how easy the enemies went down (mainly due to dumb AI and low numbers). MGS4 really wasn't a stealth game at all and this is a return to form.

Dont know if anything like that got posted before, but Required Time for Combat Deploy(Online) Is really long :D

Oh but of course you can speed it up with MB coins:

At least it runs online even if you're offline/game not running.

If Ocelot, Miller and Big Boss' voices would just be more distinct. I still have trouble hearing who is speaking but sometimes I get it.

Yeah, me too. They should have added the name to the subtitles.

There is a fast travel system, but you need to actually "unlock" it by collecting the delivery notes at each main station. You can then travel between delivery points.

Am I right in thinking, that the camoflage system isn't as good, as in Snake Eater and Guns of the Patriots? I kind of miss the OctoCamo but is okay with it not being there, as we are back in the 80's but I don't understand why they didn't go for a camo index percentage again.

It feels better and more natural in Phantom Pain to me, without some number in the corner telling me how well I can be seen. Eventually the player learns the distances and what you can get away with, and I like that.

I was reversing a jeep on mother base and accidentally ran over d-dog, some sort of cutscene started playing and i panic-closed the game in case it autosaves what a monster i am, now i'm a bit scared to relaunch it.

Playing Guns of the Patriots again, I think it is awesome this time around. It is just so futuristic and cool seeing it change its camo on the fly. And the whole sound effect when changing camo made it really addicting to use.

One way to make the distinction: Miller is really crampy and a bit of an arsehole who's ruled by his emotions, Ocelot is laid back and doesn't let his emotions take control of the situation and Big Boss hardly ever talks anyway.

Ah okay. I had no problem with it, but I can surely understand where you're coming from. :)

I played so much Peace Walker plus he sounds close to liquid's impersonation in MGS 1 that I recognize Miller. And I've watched so much 24 that I recognize Snake.

The score of this game is just glorious.
I cant stop shaking listening the
ground zeroes's escape theme version of this,

....

Damn it.

There's an hour I'll never get back. Thanks!

I literally spent an hour going round the base, tranquilizing everyone, all the rooms, vents; everything.

It was waaaay too easy, it was basically auto-stealth, stand still for one second to win. Which is a shame since GotP had massive controls improvements.

Got a few good hours in today. Finally. The game is amazing so far. I'm sure I'll find some things that bug me but I'm in full on honeymoon stage right now just loving every second. That intro got my brain in a knot. So good. I kind of like the open empty space. I just trot along and get caught up on my cassette tapes.

Played for 4 hours, Mission 1 and Mother Base intro done.

It's noral to spend 2 1/2 hours in Mission 1 and go absolutely everywhere and do everything, right?

the tapes can sometimes be good but often they're a bit monotonous, plus like others said it really doesn't help when ocelot and kaz sound almost exactly the same.

i never accuse MGS series of this but these are just poor choices of voice actors, almost no distinction at all (and no emotion either) and i can rarely tell who is talking when i'm being briefed on tape. keifer phoned these lines in for sure, i didn't mind the announcement of a different actor playing boss since i think it's neat to have big boss and solid snake with different voices but if it was gonna be this lazy should have just gotten hayter back again.

gameplay is tighter than the series has ever been though, keeps me coming back to the game.

I am doing one of the side missions where I need to get a blueprint... and I think I got the blueprint but the mission doesn't complete...

Do I have to initiate the mission from the chopper first? I just entered the mission area from wondering around.

I just did the mission involving getting Quiet. WOW that was exhilarating. It felt like (comparing to an event of old)
the battle with The End, just faster (despite still going forever) and more heartracing. Was that a boss battle with her? I'd say so. And it was fucking awesome.

Been playing this non stop all day.
I just finished the part
You rescue Emmerich
and it was amazing.

No, you don't need to start the mission from the chopper. Check the mission menu and see if there's a check mark next to it.

This depends on you. I see people slight the game for this reason but it's your choice. I played on the harder difficulties and had by far some of the most incredible and intense stealth gameplay experiences in the series.

I only found one delivery note near the start of the first Africa mission. I don't know if it just introduces them then or I missed them until that point.

Also, if I don't complete Side Ops in number-order and then complete an earlier one, it makes all the ones after that open to complete again, weird.

I just got the Med platform for Mother Base, how do I get this scene everyone is talking about?
I'm not sure if it's open immediately but from the heli launch pad, go to the opening to the middle of the platform and look up to the second floor and there's a door with the blue light above indicating it's open.

Damn, nice! Exactly the answer I was looking for.

Had a feeling the ones on ebay with UPCs are bootlegs. Most won't care, but if you're going to dish out extra cash for the case to begin with, might as well be legit.

What about the spine? Is there a Kojipro logo on bottom like early pics had?

Super late reply, but No. No Kojipro logo anywhere as far as I could see.

Fuck Konami

God, yesterday was busy as hell and I didn't really get to play. But I wroke up early this morning to put a few hours in before work. Man, you guys weren't kidding about the prologue; some good (crazy ass) shit. I still have a lot of questions about what was going on, but it was amazingly crafted and truly exhilarating. I thought some of you were just being hyperbolic when I kept seeing "greatest game opening ever," but it really was that good. A little long? Perhaps, but I loved every second. Certainly prefer it to the much over hyped Last of Us opening.

Just now past the prologue, recovered
Miller
, and ready to really dig into the meat of the game. Super excited. However, I do have a quick question to those well versed MGS lore:
When did Ocelot become so buddy with Snake?
For context, I've only played MGS3 and GZs, and ready a quick summary of Peace Walker, so maybe I missed more than I thought by skipping Peace Walker.

Do not click below if you haven't discovered the secret room on Mother Base:

Make sure every time you complete the wandering MB soldier side op you return to Paz. I'm going to assume the memento pics are going to be the key to restoring her memory...? You get some cassette tapes sometimes, too.

Mission 20:

Was anyone else super disappointed you couldn't pick up the P.T. tape you can hear on the radio in one of the camps? Such a cruel tease.
Where is her room?

I'm glad they buffed the smoke grenades from Ground Zeroes, they were practically useless in that game. The ones in Phantom Pain are awesome though, really useful.
