Marvels Secret Wars by Hickman & Ribic |OT| Everything ends... Everything begins

While this is not exactly ideal, I think that I would rather take the extra issue and consistent art team throughout than a rushjob with a bunch of fill ins. This series will read really well when collected, and if the quality holds out over those last 4 issues, it will easily be the best standalone marvel event in a decade (since Annihilation).

As for potential spoilers thanks to ANAD Marvel's launch, those were probably going to leak before book 8 launched anyhow.

This Week's Books

Ant-Man Last Days #1
E is for Extinction #3
Hank Johnson: Agent of HYDRA #1

I guess 3 weeks before Secret Wars issues was too good to be true. I wonder if they will be able to hold to the schedule for the last 2 issues.

A bit late but here's what I got.

Man, Secret Wars collected edition won't arrive until 2016 then, bummer. But man, I'm happy Hickman gets all the time (and space) in the world to complete Secret Wars to his liking.

Btw, E for Extinction, Old Man Logan and Civil War were nice reads again.

Remember when this was a summer event?

Anyway, anyone pick up Hank Johnson: Agent of Hydra? I'm on the fence and want to know if it's any good.

It's just a one-shot. I thought it was funny even though I think it struggled a bit finding the right tone. Other than that, it's definitely worth a pick up.

yeah, ok, this is some bullshit.

yeah, that kinda strengthens my theory that the worlds hit by the virus are just naturally weak. or weak to the virus. either way, that shit wouldnt fly in the 616

Wasn't Wolvie infected by the Brood in 616 and beat that?

Yes.

Wolverines healing factor is weird though; in some cases it just shrugs of the nastiest virus and pieces him back together no matter what happens. Allthough in Old Man Logan's case it has some impressive range; he got eaten by the Hulk in the original and he bursts right out of him. And now he's immune to that? The zombie virus makes no sense anyway: in the original Marvel Zombies for example the symbiote leaves his zombified host (Eddie Brock) because it's not getting anything from it in terms of living tissue. In Battleworld we see several zombified symbiotes.

Or the writers just go with their own vision of how powerful Logan's healing factor is: in the cannibal universe he never gets infected either. But his mainstream counterpart and Old Man Logan seem to have the strongest healing factors. Unless you count the time Cyclops flicked the switch and let Wolverine turn into a vampire lol.

I dont think the symbiotes themselves ares zombiefied, but like in the original zombies the hosts were. I think its an added layer of terror. Be consumed by zombies, absorbed by starved symbiotes, run through by annihilus and his plague, or purified by ultron

Issue 9 will be about Franklin combining with Phoenix and becoming the new Living Tribunal.
Bank it.

He definitely seeded the Phoenix for something between that very specifically written issue of AvX and Cyke biting it before anything even really happened.

I mean there's a series called Infinity Gauntlet, with Thanos trying to assemble the Infinity Gauntlet...
But is it the real Infinity Gauntlet of Battleworld (which I would have nore aussumed to be in the hand of Doom) or is it a Infinity Gauntlet that only works in the Infinity Gauntlet Realm?

Well, everything we've seen so far has been contained to that domain, but they're dealing with Annhilus and the wave, which is from New Xandar.

Feels bad that we have to wait another 2 weeks for Secret Wars #6. Especially for me, since that is the day I am moving houses.

Omg December now.
This is just getting ridiculous

I was trying to tell you guys!

APRIL

Again - Alonso can't tell you whether this is really a reboot or not because Marvel themselves don't really know what the fuck they're doing after Secret Wars.

Marvel has editorial retreats for a reason. Do they have everything planned out in meticulous detail six months in advance? No, but they're not going to do a slapdash New 52 on this.

Marvel doesn't have shit planned out to anywhere NEAR the degree you guys seem to believe they do. at the end of the day - it's still the comics industry. And it is nothing if not amazingly, amusingly, ridiculously dysfunctional.

Secret Wars ends in (at most) six months.

Those are basically "hope marks" instead of parentheticals.

So, Ribic is running massively behind on the main series? It's only eight issues.

I guess it's possible Ribic's lagging behind, too, sure.

JUNE

I believe this is legit.

Me too. Esad Ribic is not exactly a fast artist, and they were shipping two books a month.

I alluded to this a couple months ago, and noticed nobody even considered the possibility Hickman was dragging ass.

Hickman tweeted when he finished SW #8 like a week and a half ago. Plus, I don't know. All the issues he did between Avengers and New Avengers? Not to mention the early work on Avengers World?

I don't know if he's dragging or just writing a lot.

Sometimes "finished" isn't actually finished, though. Especially once editorial starts looking at stuff and you suddenly have to re-do stuff you thought was previously "finished."

But dragging ass probably isn't the best way to put it when, you're right, he's writing a lot of stuff.

AUGUST

That all said: It's really, really good. And if it takes til December, fuck it. Push it to December. I'd rather an event come out good than come out on time, honestly. Especially considering how many of them don't do EITHER.

There's a short story in Secret Wars Secret Love starring Danny Rand and Misty Knight that is the cutest fucking thing ever. Awesome artwork and it's very sweet.

3 of my favorite books
for me

been waiting for Sinister Squadron.

My issue with Squadron Sinister is that I expect a bit more, I don't know, complexity or nuance.

To me, it just feels like "Nighthawk outsmarting everyone to get to the easily distracted Hyperion."

This issue was fun, but the end game was never not in sight.

Since we were all wondering, Weirdworld is totally an ongoing after SW ends.
