Can someone explain how you do a double-takedown? Like when two people are standing side by side? It briefly went over this at the mother base tutorial but on the pc it made no damn sense how to do it.

It was like "when the prompt appears" but I just grab one person and then the other one turns around.

You have to do a knock down(Which would be R2/RT+Direction) . Afterwards you should see an R2 prompt with two hands on it, and you tap it to take out another person. That's what counts as a 'CQC Strike'.

if another guy is close game will go into slow mo as you take down the first guard and the prompt will show up

honestly just keep pressing the cqc button as you take care of one and in the other is close itll just do it automatically

for reference I didnt get it on my tutorial try on motherbase either but did so later on on an actual missions

regardless the situation doesnt present itself much

If you mean double slamming people you just initiate the slam on one guy then move towards the next while its motion and just chain it. I took down 4 guys in mother base when it made me do it.

Also, i got logged online once for like 20 minutes and now it won't let me back on. I am one of those scumbags who would spend money on scummy transactions (i am the problem i know) but i guess they don't want my money?

I feel like MGSV is a harsh wakeup call for a lot of people, especially those who ignored or dismissed Peace Walker for so long.
I thought PW was weird when I first played it but then the Monster Hunter-ish vibes and the base building aspect of it all started to click and I got use to it, so MGSV being a progression of that feels pretty natural to me.

Casettes are just codec conversations you can listen to at any time, with extra stuff thrown in.
The Motherbase stuff isn't very Metal Gear, but then again we always knew at some point Big Boss's story had to be about building Outer Heaven and less about "ONE MAN SNEAK MISSION, EQUIPMENT OSP"

I get the complaints, and I did love the insane plotdump cutscenes of prior games, I guess I just don't miss them, especially when the game plays so well.

We got 4 games of the previous style, I'm open to the changes.

Yup, and yup.

People complain about formulaic and annualized sequels so much in this industry, but when a series goes for broke and reinvents itself, the fanboys can't handle the change.

The four previous games aren't going anywhere, now we've just got something new to play around with, and what a great new thing it is.

It works similarly to peace walker, if people are grouped up together after you do a grapple take down or a bunch of punches you'll see the icon for CQC with a 2nd hand under it, that means you can chain it instantly after to the second person, all you gotta do is push the stick in their direction and tap for CQC again.

People complaining about the same formula complain so because of similar gameplay not similar approach to story telling. This isn't the same case here because every single MGS plays different.

The game has all the things previous games did including the craziness and stupidity and there is a good amount of it, far more than most other games...but it's spread out very far by filler crap and at one point it becomes even more ridiculous....that is the issue here. It could still play the way it does now but not spread things out this much.

so i just got to africa and have a couple questions:

1. pretty much all of my facilities are level 2 atm. are there any doors i can enter or things i might have missed besides the door on the r&d platform?

honestly mother base is just a little too big for its own good :P

2. if buddies die in a mission are they gone forever? i lost the horse once, but ended up restarting the mission. i'm kind of nervous about taking dd on tougher missions..

If you are doing the CQC attack where you grab and hold an enemy (hold the attack button), I don't believe it works. I think it only works if you do the punch combo (mash the attack button) or the slam (attack button + left stick) to keep the CQC chain going. You will see the small cqc hand icon appear on screen if another enemy is close enough to attack after doing one of those.

Just got through the prologue and part of the first mission last night.

For so long I had wondered what the phrase "V has come to" meant or was referencing, thinking it was engrish or something. When I heard it in the game in context, I felt so stupid.

Really having fun though. So much space it helps in being sneaky-sneaky.

I do admit to missing the presentation of codec calls though. Actually seeing faces and other graphics... helped pull you into what is basically a phone call. On the other hand, I appreciate the practicality of making them optional cassettes so codec calls aren't constantly bogging down the game.

Take one thing, give up another I suppose.

I'm still wigged out that Ocelot doesn't have his widow's peak. Where did it go? Along with Troy Baker....who is this man?

Made some really weird design choices for him this time around.

all faces have been slightly remodeled to fit their voice actors a lot more in this game

big boss looks a bit like kiefer, kaz like robin.. but with Ocelot it got kinda ridiculous

straight up Troy Baker face in there with no relation to what he looked like before at all

I don't know how to properly play the game. I'm dumped into Afganistan and I'm looking for a target that I can't find and isn't pinpointed.

The game directs me to head to a nearby town to search for clues. With no minimap in gameplay or HUD to indicate points of interest I just find myself rummaging through various green and red doored huts, clicking O to pick up medicinal herbs or diamond dust packs.

After aimlessly wandering around searching for something that I can't find, I find myself getting into scirmishes with the troops, popping off headshots then hiding in some nearby shrubs to no avail. There are no subtitles for what they're saying. I run away and start the process over.

Where should I be going? What should I be doing? What is this supposed intel that will CLEARLY mark my point of interest?

I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.

I got the hint when Peace Walker was revealed to be previously called Metal Gear Solid V

I mean every Big Boss game except 3 is this type of game

that said im enjoying this a lot more than Peace Walker. PW was crazy ambitious for a handheld, always felt like a concept much better suited for better tech

I guess thats the one I did. wasnt expecting to have to search for them, real bad

I tried Peace Walker before playing this and I was put off by the fact it wasn't a Metal Gear game in the way I was used to it being. I'm really not a fan of comic book style cutscenes in any game and that put me off immediately. Then on top of that you also had a game that was trying to do and play on a level that the hardware and control scheme just wouldn't allow it to. I gave it a shot and was very disappointed, so when MGS V was getting compared to it I was worried.

However V just plays so much better and I can appreciate what they were trying to do in PW. Sure the story is a little thin (so far anyway, I'm at Mission 11) but the whole game is just much more fun to play, infiltrating, acquiring assets, running around Motherbase finding all the secrets (quick aside regarding the medical platform:
Can you miss Paz entirely if you don't explore? That would be crazy!
). Most of all the game is just a dream to play, it handles so well (especially when compared to previous entries) My only real complaint so far is that the open world can feel Assassins Creed 1 levels of empty/irrelevant in places.

I don't get it. What the hell at Medical Platform?! Is Snake Hallucinating? Is Kojima retconning again?

Seriously. How is she alive? Can someone explain to me please...

You and me both! Hopefully that plot develops
as you show her more photos? but yeah, what the hell about the change to the helicopter explosion

Maybe I'm stupid too, but why did you feel that way? Wasn't that just the John Doe name they gave Big Boss when he was in the hospital?

People complaining about the same formula complain so because of similar gameplay not similar approach to story telling. This isn't the same case here because every single MGS plays different.

1, 2, and 3 play pretttyy similarly, sure there are mechanical changes like new weapons and items, and tertiary systems like Snake Eater's camo and food system, but the minute to minute gameplay is pretty similar from 1-3. Honestly the biggest change in any of those games was the camera style change in 3: Subsistence. 4 was the biggest departure for finally implementing modern aiming and shooter controls, and for focusing on more open environments and more types of environments.

Is anyone else actually really impressed with the direction they've taken Big Boss? Like, I can't fully explain it but the way he's acted both through Keifer's VA and his expressions and actions, it just feels like such a significant step up from a lot of other games.

Does it matter how long you take to complete missions? I sometimes am very cautious/patient in how I approach and implement my them. Lol

If you care about getting S Rank, it probably does a little bit. A lot of the story missions I've done, I do very slowly and stealthily, with all CQC or Tranq takedowns, no alerts, and the highest I've got is an A doing it this way (except the prologue which is probably an automatic S for everyone).

But really the first time through, who cares? Most people go back to missions a second or third time to try for S, I would imagine. I find it more fun to take my time and be sneaky.

How do I stop fights breaking out?

Tried putting diplomats on the team and two troublemakers together

Do the diplomats need to outnumber them?

Also, how do I get my soldiers to get materials for me? They say "Need materials? Just ask!" on MB

And finally...

When should I return to med bay for the miss-able cutscene?

Snake and Kaz still look like themselves, though.

Ocelot is literally Troy Baker. Which isn't... terrible. I can get used to it. Just seems weird for Ocelot to have this friendly, somewhat goofy looking face when Ocelot has always been long, stern and angular.

uh boy

this is like those sarcastic "I need a "FOLLOW" marker like in COD!" posts

Use your iDroid to mark the location you need to be, head there, find intel, open iDroid and set new marker.

Get used to using the iDroid a lot now, because you're going to need it later.

I was so confused because at that point I had the GZ Sneaking Suit on and it was super confusing.

Ground Zeroes' ending wasn't the truth apparently. She doesn't look like she aged nine 9 though... It would make sense though that Boss forgot that they had pulled both bombs though simply from the trauma of the RPG/helicopter crash and a 9 year coma. It was a complete mind fuck for me.

Just got the game and played through the opening .
HOLY
MOTHER
OF
GOD

What an opening that was , is was sweating like a 13 year old again. This game man , this game .

yeah, that's what I meant. they slightly altered BB for example to fit Kief but they did a really good, subtle job

dunno wtf went up with Ocelot

Decided to forgo stealth for a side-op and got on top of a building, pulled out my sniper rifle and played Kids in America while picking people off and shooting exploding red barrels.

Yeah, this game is alright.

I've played for over 20 hours now and I'm at 8%. At this rate I won't finish the game until 2016.

percentage number is like GZ ie counts everything

people keep talking about the size of the game by looking at the complete percentage

I mean yeah its gonna be big if you wanna collect every single fuel / material and S rank every mission

I gather that it'll realistically be at 50 percent when im done with the game, maybe less

Well, that's a relief.

for someone who's name is quiet, she's not very quiet at all. is there any way to make her stop humming during missions?

Well they face motion captured/scanned Sutherland, Joosten and Baker so no surprise their characters look like them.

I think Ocelot looks good.

Also, one thing I kinda wish happened in the story
is Snake being a little suspicious about Ocelot. Snake hasn't seen Ocelot since the 60's, right? And Ocelot was trying to kill him back then. Then all of a sudden he's on a horse and building you back up? That was a moment where I wish Snake WASN'T silent. That's just not something you ignore... especially considering Ocelot is the Boss's biological son. How do you just leave that hanging? Does Boss just not know it's Adamska? Anyway, I've only completed the story up to mission 3, so maybe they cover this in the tapes or something later on.

Anybody else playing the PC version get weird FPS drops and hangs in the Emblem Editing screen?
The game runs perfectly fine UNLESS I go to one of the "Word Lists" in the "Edit Emblem" screen.

Scrolling through the list of "Word Parts" drops the game to 1-2 FPS and it takes 5-10 seconds to switch between tabs or scroll between items.

EDIT: Looks like it's not just me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUfewKOIRZc

I find it strange that the game has crack climbing but not typical rock climbing. It would have been incredible getting to traverse a wall like spider man.

This is a massive bug and everyone I know has it. Hope a fix comes soon.
