Updated OP per the Weekly Update on 9/3.

Thought I'd gather this up for those not watching the social media announcements, as there may be some confusion when 2.0 hits.

9/8 - Destiny 2.0 Update

  • Northghost replaces Dinklebot. RIP Dinklebot.
  • Weapon rebalancing
  • Reorganization of the base game and 2 DLC's into quest lines
  • New light level system implemented
  • The Taken King content pre-load, so the patch will be ~18 GB for current gen
  • Material and tower vendor updates (see below)

This weekly update lists out the full detail of what is changing and when, and how things like partially completed bounties and marks are converting over to 2.0.

9/8 to 9/14 is a Taken King Crucible preview, open to all regardless of what DLC you own or have preordered:

If you’ve bought Destiny, whether you’ve pre-ordered The Taken King or not, we’re sending you into the Crucible to experience new modes of battle on every brand new map. One thing to note: You won’t have the use of your new Super abilities yet. You’ll have to visit your class Vanguard in The Taken King to earn your new subclass. For now, though, you can and should check out the new slate of maps on offer, and two of the new modes.

The Crucible Preview Event will take place from September 8th to September 14th. Go and get yourself an early taste of some Rift! And follow it up with a heaping helping of Mayhem!

Once Oryx arrives in our Solar System, the new Crucible content will become the sole property of those Guardians who pick up and continue playing The Taken King. This is your chance to try before you buy – or download. Think of it as your own personal E3 or gamescom, only it happens at home on your couch.

9/15 - The Taken King content releases, along with the new level cap.

9/18 at 10am PST - The raid, King's Fall, will release.

On a related note, you'll see the OT for The Taken King go up on the 8th, given the amount of stuff that's going live on that date.

The 8th sounds like a perfect time to create my 3rd and final character. I really hope the reorganization helps the story actually flow and make somewhat more sense

Seems like the perfect time to restart my Titan.

Been playing an awful lot over the past couple weeks and been enjoying myself for the hr or 2 I put into it. Not enough for the yr 1 emblem, but ive given up on that one ;)

I know very little of about destiny, but may be getting into it soon. If I buy TKK is that all the past and current destiny content in one?

Awesomeness. So starting next week I can create a new character and run through the game with Northbot before the expansion comes out.

Has there been any word on whether or not Prison of Elders will get more levels with TTK? Also, will etheric light still be a thing?

Right now no but I do expect them to add in a level 40 tier or something down the line, it would be stupid not to keep those up to date.

No and for year 1 weapons yes (although why would you want to waste your time with that), year 2 weapons no (look up the new infusion system). They also said that they haven't had any talks on what to do with our excess etheric light.

Luke smith said they don't know what they are doing with etheric light yet but it won't be a thing anymore at this time. I'm sure it will come back in later DLC though.

No and no.

They've mentioned that just like the old raids, they want PoE be a progressive experience through the game. It will not be updated and etheric light has no purpose when TTK drops (for now).

I pre-ordered digital collector's version yesterday it unlocked the 2 DLC for me but I was surprised I still needed my retail disk to play it

hopefully the 18GB is what will free me from disk?

You shouldn't need the disc, you do have to download it from the psn store before you can play without the disc

That's odd. Try deleting your install file and do a fresh install/download from the store.

So I haven't played since the first expac. How hard would it be to get back in during taken king?

I recently got back into it after jumping ship before The Dark Below was released. My original Guardian never made it to level 10! It's been pretty easy to get into it, but it's a bit overwhelming. There's so much stuff to know and learn within a short amount of time. I'm having a good time with it, though.

They did say Taken enemies will pop in older raids. I'd imagine a few Taken might make an appearance in PoE.

I think this is the wrong way to treat dlc they sold only a few months ago, terrible bungie, terrible.

I played Destiny until level 20 and then I sold it. I'm still confused about what they're adding and making better in this game, and what it entails. Someone must have compiled a list of stuff, right? I don't know why it's worth giving another shot, and even if I do want to do that I have no idea what I even need to buy.

Hey guys, I'm getting the PS4 bundle on the 15th and haven't ever played before this so I'm pretty out of the loop on how this works. Do we know if this 2.0 patch will be on disc (I'm assuming this is the same disc as the Legendary Edition) or will that still need to be patched up from the base game? I have download caps here at college and want to get some PSN+ stuff on my PS4 as is, so 18 GB's a big deal.

If you already have game installed you will patch over Internet. If you order disc you can uninstall then install from disc.

I hope they allow 2.0 to be downloaded beginning early on the 8th I'd like to come home from work and have it be ready to play because 18gb is going to take quite some time to download that day.

I guess I'll find out in 6 hours

I tried to play without the disc again just to be sure it gave me the same no disc error
hopefully it will work with this fresh download
You disc is just a physical license. All data is on your PS4. Just because you downloaded the licenses for the dlc (and vanilla) doesn't mean it overrides your original license. So you have to delete the original install (which relies on the disc license) and download the digital install which will rely on your account licenses.

Yeah I'm gonna have my console on rest mode just for the occasion.
