I have literally done nothing for 5 hours but side missions.

God damn it.

Escaping with prisoners and giving a guard a headshot with the tranq on the way out is the god damn greatest thing.

I think I missed D-Walker.
Is mission 12 when you get it? I couldn't figure out how to exfil with it, so I left it behind assuming that I couldn't take it.

What a game.

Just played a side mission that to me was just as satisfying as any main mission so far. The objective was a simple rescue mission - as I approached the outer perimter night had began to fall, I call in a supply drop to switch out my desert camo for the Sneaking Suit.

A spotlight guard was watching the main entrance but he had been left all alone, I slipped past the searching light and climbed the tower, holding him up. He was useful - he knew the exact location of the prisoner.

I made my way closer to the compound, a large wall shielded me from the guards but this caused me to relax a little bit too much, as I inch closer to the wall I knock something alerting nearby guards - they hadn't been tagged but the sudden end to their conversation told me I had messed up.

I relocate pretty quick, hiding behind a communiction relay they had left undefended, I plant a C4 for future use. I'm high up and have eyes inside the compound so this is a great opportunity to mark most of the guards, there is only one on my side of the wall, I toss a magazine from above to distract him for a moment and instantly make my move diving down and taking him out fast.

I avoid the front door in favour of a drainage ditch, I come out to an opening but there is a guard on watch, I wait a few moments for him to pass but instead two more join him for a smoke break. The one leaves pretty quickly after a conversation about the US Star Wars program but the other two hang around. For a very long time. Finally the second guards leaves again, back inside to help guard the prisoner with the one who had left earlier.

I strike dragging the remaining guard down into the ditch. Sunlight was only a few hours away and it seemed like I had boxed myself into a corner as the compound was too open and there were too many guards with a good vantage for me to slip out of the drainingage ditch.

The best luck I've had in the game so far, my idroid informs me a sandstorm is about to hit. With a thick cloud of dust I rise from the ditch and burst into the room the prisoner was being kept in, tossing a smoke grenade at the two guards, quickly switching back to my silenced rifle to take them both out.

But in the confusion of the attatck the silencer runs out and the sound of my gunshots ring out through out the compound. I snatch the prisoner up and make my way through the various rooms, I'm actually going deeper into the compound but I need to get away from the source of the gunfire.

Everyone is alert by now (but I remain unseen) - I peek my head outside and see I'm surronded, I shoot the closest guard blocking my exit in the chest with a tranq, this cause two guards to come and investigate my building and I'm almost discovered, I grab the one as he enters and thanks to reflex mode I have just enough time to shoot the other (pacing a dart right beneath his helmet).

It had been a close call, the enemy was too well defended at this side of the base but there were people investigating the gunshot still at the other side. Its now I decide to blow the C4 I had planted earlier, blowing the communications. In the confusion I sneak up the stairs past two guards and slip over the wall,

When I covered enough distance the prisoner was fulton'ed away and having checked my map to see there was a landing zone near by I decide to call a helicopter in to bring me back to base. Just as it was arriving the sun began to rise, I couldn't have scripted it better.
Man thats a beautiful description of why this game is so frickin good.

This game is just too big for huge sessions, so I'm more comfortable playing a few hours a day and then coming back to the fourms to talk about it. I might take a break and break open Until Dawn for a few because MGSV is just so big I want it to last.

Oh boy riding DHorse on top speed and then using my rocket launcher chasing and destroying a tank felt and looks so good, also while barely missing explosion from Tank's shell. Reflex mode is also godly since I headshot 3 guys while riding DHorse in quick succession. You really felt like a legendary soldier with super accurate aiming.

I can't work out weather the Skull Unit are the best thing Kojima has ever done, or the absolute fucking worst. I literally DREAD missions where they're involved. They're like a brick wall to my progress in the game at every encounter. Yet when I've finally beat them my first reaction is always "yeah, that was pretty cool".

Side Ops are pretty amazing when you've got the games mechanics nailed down and remember you can take Side Ops at your own pace. I've just been stealthing my way clearing out and fultoning an entire base while listening to
Love Will Tear Us Apart
. Kojima you magnificent bastard.

At this point, I don't even care lol. I have a B in everthkg except for the prologue and one other where I got a C. Fuck it

Haha, yeah I should just do that. I am having a blast though and it make me tense as shit.

I am just too slow and methodical about it sometimes.

18 hours in and I still don't have a kill yet, feels good man...

Might have to break that rule soon if the game doesn't quit asking me if I want to put on that damn Chicken Hat.

Seeing this got me thinking: is it possible to not kill anyone in the prologue? Once I got to the main game and could use tranqs/CQC I didn't kill anyone, but I have no idea how you'd do the prologue with no kills

game hard crashed my PS4, had to unplug it. Was in a micro loop cutscene on the motherbase, with everyones clothes still rustling in the wind but that was all. annoying. slightly afraid to turn my ps4 on again, waiting a few minutes

So I just got the optional, fabled Medical Bay scene and... yeah. (Spoiler ahead talking about it)

What the fuck. I'm questioning so many things. At first I was convinced this was just all in Snake's head or whatever since the prologue seemed to imply he at least seems to be imagining some things that aren't there, but this seems completely straight about it. So was at least part of Ground Zeroes some misguided flashback?

I get in there as quiet as possible using my tranq gun, but if I get spotted it's YOLO mode and i'm massacring the entire base and taking supplies, intel and tapes around. Win/win lol

Died the first time in mission 12. Uh, these checkpoints are brutal.

In other to get Quiet, Ocelot must first tell you about her, then go to the Aabe Shifad Ruin to fight her.

I got there passing by the Yakho Oboo Supply Post, might not work if you to there from somewhere else, follow the road too.

Also, pretty sure you also need the medical bay at that point.

Sleeping soldiers are buggy as hell in this game. How did this pass QA?

I couldn't wake this guy up by trying to punch him or kick him while in the hammock. I tried to lure him, nothing. Then, suddenly, there's a 1 frame animation of him standing up on the hammock and alerted to me.

Jesus Christ I'm the stupidest man on the planet.

I just spent 3 hours redoing the same side ops over and over, cause when you complete them all it will highlight one for you to redo, and I thought I was getting new ones.

Fuck.

Can anyone help me with using
Quiet
as a buddy. No matter what I do they stay in the same place and hitting LB and trying to order a command seems to not work.

lol that sucks, but it really made me laugh more than it probably should've.

Is playing in Online Mode supposed to make the iDroid menus incredibly laggy?

Sometimes it takes me 20+ seconds to be allowed to check a tab and the little spinning icon that I think means "network activity" chugs away. Why does it even need to check the internet before I can look to see what weapon upgrades are available, for instance?

Last night when the server was "undergoing maintanence" the menus were snappy and instant.

I'm not seeing the benefit of the "Online Mode."

Its really a shame you can't jump from LZ to LZ. The game is at its best when you are on the move, real-time, launching missions consecutively - ASAP.

The games structure holds it back; breaks the immersion.

Fuck.

The Target Practice ones won't unhighlight if you complete them, FYI. They're "time attacks" so once you checkmark them, they're done.

No, but Konami's servers are getting hammered to where it can't check your Motherbase rank/leaderboards and FOB status quickly, which is why it's lagging. There's no point to going online outside of trying to get the "daily" rewards before 1PM Pacific the next day.

I still haven't figured out where the Rewards section for the online portion is in the menus.

I think someone else guessed right, I bet it was a feature but it was removed because of constant alerts when travelling between landing zones

Did anybody find out whether this scene is still in the game yet?

If not maybe it ties into the demon points system?

That's pretty hilarious. It probably made your Mother Base stronger though.

Ok, guys, stupid question here but I can't find the option or see it ANYWHERE. I understand you're supposed to be able to play any mission again, etc. but I can't figure out how. Just got to base and Ocelot and I wanted to start the game over and play the prologue and stuff again now that I know what I'm doing. But the only option on the main menu is to "continue." I've seen online that it should be New Game/Continue but I don't have the New Game option. ARGH! How can I start completely over? And.....where do you go to replay just certain missions if you want to?

Thanks in advance...sorry for the stupid question!

Mission 6. Holy shit with
the Skulls fight, insanely fun. These guys are really scary to face.

Just finished that myself.
I actually ran out the caves without firing the honey bee as was originally instructed, hoping it'd get me one of the optional objectives checked off, only to find another one completely contradicts it via not avoiding combat with the skulls

Just another mission to replay! I don't usually look forward to that in games, but I'm already formulating a new approach here.

Haven't been able to play much. Still on the sixth mission, so it may be too early to say this.

I'm not sure I like the new formula. I didn't mind the other games containing more cutscenes than actual gameplay. That's what kept me hooked. The gameplay here is a lot of fun, definitely not complaining about it, but I need more story to keep me going.

I feel like I'm playing an open world, next-gen Peace Walker, which makes sense since this is a direct sequel but I want that cinematic MGS experience. Give me those Kojima feels. The prologue was spectacular in that regard. Hopefully it picks up at some point.
