The Taken King's Launch Rollout: 2.0 on the 8th w/ Crucible Preview, Raid on the 18th

Is there a way I can experience the "new" campaign without resetting one of my characters ?

I spent way too much time on them to do that.

And to be clear, a lot of Destiny's year 1 content is moving forward.

Right, when I referred to not remaking old content, I meant specifically the raids/other instanced content. The strikes, as well, I don't see them updating individual older strikes. Either way, there's a difference between the changescoming to a lot of older "content", in that it's stuff meant to improve the general user experiance, vs. updating three older, instanced events, which don't REALLY help anyone other than people who want to experiance them or keep running them isntead of newer content for whatever reason, which defeats the point of the new endgame.

The only things that are not are Vault of Glass, Crota's End, and the Prison of Elders. The new endgame is the new raid, Court of Oryx/Dreadnaught patrol, Nightfalls, Heroic strike playlist, Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner and potentially some high end exotic quest lines.

This is exactly how it should be, imo.

It should be noted that the old activities are also there to give you activities to do as you go up in levels, even if they give you old gear.

If they just bumped everything up to 40, there would be a giant boredom chasm between finishing the story and being able to do anything.

1-20 is the story.
20-25 is Dark Below story.
25-30 is House of Wolves story, and the two Year 1 raids.
30-35 is Prison of Elders and Taken King story.
35-40 is Taken King endgame.

I'd be sort of fine with this.

The don't, though. It's better they keep up with current content than remake older content. Regardless of what people at Bungie or int he community might say, the basic structure of Destiny is akin to that of an MMO. In an MMO, you keep moving forward. Rarely do MMOs update their older content in the way you're asking for, not without some kind of revamp or overhaul to them. It makes more sense to keep moving forward than to dedicate resource to adding new versions of older content. Old raids always become outdated. It's a simple fact of games with this design structure.

What they DO need to do is add matchmaking or some way to do older raids that takes your higher power levels into account and the fact that you may not need a complete, full power fire team anymore. That makes it easier for the people who DO want to do it just to experiance it or to get old equipment for whatever reason to just do it, and take some of the hassle and fuss out of the equation for older, no longer relevent content. I don't care if King's Fall doesn't have matchmaking or whatever, but it should come for older stuff eventually.
Remake? It's not like these raids need a complete overhaul. A third difficulty for endgame players to have something else to do that provides a challenge is all that any sane person is asking. It isn't too much to ask, and besides, it'd be good for them in the long run, since Vault of Glass is the single best piece of content in the current game (I wouldn't be surprised if that were still the case in a month, too).

I can't believe the same post that calls me out for wanting updated raids is also asking for raid matchmaking, though. We got completely different priorities within this game, man. Making the best content irrelevant, easy, and matchmade is, in general, pretty depressing.

Rebalancing something as complex as a raid is a lot harder than it sounds, it's not as simple as just raising the level and HP of all the enemies, particularly when they seem to be expressedly avoiding doing that this time around. Ultimately, whether it's the best content or not is irrelevent. It's not the newest content, which is what any dev of an online experiance SHOULD be pushing, particularly if they're trying to make something better than te current best content. What would adding a new difficulty accomplish anyway? They can't give it Year 2 rewards, or everyone who's familiar with that raid will just keep doing that instead of the new one unless King's Fall has the new Gally - and even then it'll make the transition over to doing the new raid much slower for a lot of people, and that's not something you want in an online game. If it still has Year 1 rewards, than what's the incentive for anyone to keep doing it vs. Year 2 content?

The matchmaking is mostly a thought on how to keep people doing it for people who do want to do it - if you break down the barriers to getting in, more people will do it regardless of level (and experiance, for better or worse). You don't make it easier, but by virtue of outleveling the content it becomes easier. That how these things typically work in these sorts of games. Welcome to MMOs/Online games, where endgame content is a revolving door. If that's depressing, there's probably not much to do about it. That's how things are and should be.

VOG is the best raid in the game yes but remember there are only two. IMO, Trials is the best end game content in the game because of how challenging and competitive it is. I also think the new Taken King raid will be the best on game as they have mentioned over and over that it's far bigger and complex then VOG is.

I also don't agree about making year one content upgraded to year 2. Destiny wants to be a MMO and by having new loot to chase and not upgrading old legendaries you get in those raids is how it's supposed to be done. I mean what would be the point of using anything else if they keep bringing over fatebringer/Black Hammer/ Ghallajorn every year to upgrade to current damage? It would make the game very stale. Year one the PVE meta was basically Fatebringer or VOC, Black Hammer or Corrective Measure, and Ghallajorn.... Really was no reason to use anything elSe. Even the PvP meta got boring after a while.

I own the original game and have the physical legendary edition on pre-order, on the 8th will I be locked out of the Dark Below and House of Wolves story content?

RE: raids in year 2.

In last week's Game Informer podcast, Luke and Mark talked about this in response to the question of whether the old raids would have value to play through in year 2.

That exchange starts at 39:17.

vv thanks, I couldn't remember how to do that. :lol

Looks beautiful. Really loving the Sun sort of tying it all together, as well as it not being an actual object. Is that one fake? Says "impression" on the bottom left now that I look closer. Here's one from a stream:

This is the only screenshot we have so far. It's believe the quests in the bottom right will eventually fill out with Saturn.

....You just play those missions again. Like you can now. ... Am I missing something?

I think he meant the quest line, which has additional story context, quest givers, etc, rather than just choosing the mission from the menu and running the stand alone mission.

Yes. The first mission, where you fight through the Breach/Divide/Dock 13 to reach a jumpship, can't be replayed. I'm guessing Urk's comment means that you'll be able to do this as of v2.0.

Unnecessary. Urk from bungie said "yup" without explaining. Best to wait now until the 8th.
OR go back in time with your Stand Powers and not spend the time leveling those characters. I have only one maxed out and the others are expendable for this thing./

#sunsinger for life
Run the mission wearing your armor but nothing else
I wonder, how many people still have the intro AK? Its basically useless compared to the highest levled guns but is super one of a kind.

I spent way too much time on them to do that.
On ps4 and Xbox one you can just create a new sub account or silver account and play through the campaign there. It will have full ps plus or gold capabilities as long as you play on your main console.

As expected, the weekly update delineated exactly what is in the 2.0 update and what will unlock on the 15h. Too long of a list to quote, but I'll add the link to the OP.

The big surprise is this - TTK Crucible preview playlists, open to all from the 8th to the 14th:

If youÂ’ve bought Destiny, whether youÂ’ve pre-ordered The Taken King or not, weÂ’re sending you into the Crucible to experience new modes of battle on every brand new map. One thing to note: You wonÂ’t have the use of your new Super abilities yet. YouÂ’ll have to visit your class Vanguard in The Taken King to earn your new subclass. For now, though, you can and should check out the new slate of maps on offer, and two of the new modes.

The Crucible Preview Event will take place from September 8th to September 14th. Go and get yourself an early taste of some Rift! And follow it up with a heaping helping of Mayhem!

Once Oryx arrives in our Solar System, the new Crucible content will become the sole property of those Guardians who pick up and continue playing The Taken King. This is your chance to try before you buy – or download. Think of it as your own personal E3 or gamescom, only it happens at home on your couch.

Pretty awesome that they're letting everybody try out the new crucible. I've never been more excited for an expansion than this one!

That is sweet. Bungie is firing on all cylinders. Hope they publish sales info. I don't think any console DLC has been this ambitious, curious to see how it sells.

Anyone know how the Ciphers will work? Will it automatically finish, then I can pick Dregs Promise, or is it going to give me a random weapon? :\

The Ciphers are exotic bounties, which should automatically complete. I'm guessing one of two outcomes:

You get the weapon you picked when originally talking to Variks about the Cipher.

The bounty completes, and you go to Variks to turn it in as you do now, and can pick the weapon at that time.

Hopefully the latter.

I think when you finish the bounty normally, you get to pick from one of the three, so I just assume that will happen without you having to grind PoE any more.

Why is there so much secrecy over exactly which weapons will or won't have Year 2 versions right away? I wonder if the exotic blueprints will tell us even though we won't be able to purchase them yet.

I would be nice to know in advance, but we'll know on the 8th by checking the blue print kiosks, and just compare year 1 to year 2.

argh I had legendary bounties but deleted them since I was bad at PvP

I forgot which vendors gave them wonder if I can get them back to my account?
