Basic scanlines or can it handle something meatier in terms of CRT shaders ?
Honestly don't bother with the shaders, scanlines are fine, fancy shaders have a performance impact imho

Once installed there is an option in the RetroPie menu to install Kodi, was in the 3.0 beta, should be in the 3.0 build now.
You do that via retropie.
Don't install noobs.
Awesome, thanks!
Also, how are N64 games running? Especially Smash64.
Just curious, why no noobs? Is noobs thought to be bad?
Fuck it, I know what I'm going to do with my Pi:

I would probably do it a little better though, like maybe mount the rubber/silicone button things from a Saturn/MD pad rather than have those buttons. Or use tiny buttons a la the MKX pad. It looks like that front panel is removable, so that'd be the best way to go.
It's giving me the feels from the old Firefox my brother and I used to own back in the 80s:

Much prefer it if this one was black, too.
LOOK AT IT!
Sorry for not posting that much, I wanted to have something physical before posting again, otherwise it's just boring read posts about planning/concepts and such drivel.
So I had my first go at using a laser cutter.
This is what I got
Only took 2 minutes to cut as well, really tempted to learn CAD programs nowreally impressed with the results using 6nm mdf, really sturdy and strong, no flex, will apply a acrylic layer on top, probably white. or red. my only two complaints are that I should use flat screw bolts, while the current ones are not uncomfortable they are still annoying when playing. The other annoyance are the length of happ buttons, I doubt I can fit buttons on the side as they will hit the other buttonss due to size (280mmx140mm). I really like it though, it's compact but still has plenty of spacing for fingers. I was really scared I screwed up the joystick mount but it was a perfect fit
I also solved the 12v to 5v problem! Costs less than £3 and no rainbow square yet so far
I'm going to buy a sheet of MDF and cut out the rest of the parts probably next week., wish me luck!
Quick question: The RPi case shown in the OP (the really low profile one), where can that be bought? It's probably the tiniest I've seen, looks great and has full access to the GPIO pins.
Aren't you supposed to hold a certain button combo before boot up?I need some help with my NEO GEO emulator, I can't seem to be able to access the service menu or Uni-Bios using my 360 controller or the keyboard.

Otherwise, that's a great looking project! How did you find a place to do laser cutting?
Installing the the new build of retropie and the new emulation station button integration with RetroArch is a double edge sword.
why ?

Running a Pi2 with Pibow case retropie/emulation station.
Using a 8Bitdo SFC30, which I have mixed feelings about; I've battled with it for 3 days straight. To the point now through trial and error I have it working sort of. I can control my games but my hot keys act strange some work (start+select) to quit game but crucially my save and load game state key combos refuse to work. Even though my cfg file is populate with the correct commands!?
I say mixed feelings because on the other side of it the controller looks and feels amazing. I think the issues stem from the funkiness that is the the SFC30 is being picked up as both a keyboard (D-pad) and gamepad (all other buttons).
There a few guides/forum posts out there for the SFC30 but none relevant to retropie v3 final build, where I suspect things have changed.
It pains me to say but I might have to return the SFC30 and use my wired 360 pads as they work flawlessly.
And it's done
There is still a lot to do but my holidays ends this week so not much time for this project left, I'll tinker it here and there, still have not made a backplate lol, and the internals are still in jumbles and I might replace the speaker, but overall I really enjoyed making it and I wholly recommend anyone going for it to have a go.

Can anyone recommend a good UK supplier for a power supply for the Pi 2? I've brought both a Pi 1 and 2 from The Pi Hut in the past, and both of their power supplies have conked out in no time. I've got another supply on the go now, but am getting reboots daily.
I like the idea of the Gamekid, but I don't like the idea of it being 3D printed. In my experience, things like that have always felt flimsy. Shame there's no way they could do it injection-molded instead (and yeah, I know that's infinitely more expensive than 3D printing). As long as it's certified for 2A you should be fun, tbh I can't get a stable run for more than a few hours on a Pi and that's with a reliable charger, ends up hanging/
In other news there is another Kickstarter for a gameboy/raspi hybrid called GameKid
Hopefully this looks more promising than the Encade which hasn''t even demonstrated how the final product will look like.

No reason you couldn't desolder the unneeded USB/NIC ports! I'm surprised there haven't been more projects that encourage this to create an even smaller footprint of the Pi.My other gripe is the Pi is still too big for a handheld due to the ethernet port and USB ports, hopefully we will get a lite version of Raspi 2 and I might think about making a handheld project next year.

Hello Pi GAF,
I have bought and set up my Pi 2 with Retropie 3.0, but that is as far as I got so far.
This is my first venture into linux, so these are beginners questions.
I bought a bluetooth dongle - so far I have no idea if it is working at all. I'm pretty sure I have to install drivers, but I have no clue where or how.
The option to enable overscan is also nowhere to be found for me. Is it specific from emulator to emulator, or can I enable it on a OS level?
How do I 'delete' some of the preinstalled game systems in retropie? ScummVM and some apple stuff shows up and I want to limit this thing to SNES, NES and Gameboy at the start. I looked around in the folders a bit, but i wasn't apparent to me what I'd have to change for them to disappear...
It's also strange, how I need different Emulators for my roms. There isn't a one for all solution around, is it?
lsusb
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
This is a little off-topic (not gaming, but still raspberry Pi): atm I use my Wii as a media player, but now it's finally time to drag my ass in to the last decade and upgrade and I want to get a raspberry pi for it's flexibility (and I will use it as an emulation platform as a secondary use).
I'm kind of concerned about leaving it running for hours and falling asleep with it on, so does anyone know if there is a sleep timer function in the media players like kodi/osmc? Or am I worrying about nothing and the Pi is ok to leave plugged in and powered on for long periods?

I picked up the 5" makibes 800x480 display and it looks great, the only downsides are that the viewing angles are somewhat medicore, but that's to be expected, it's supposed to be looked directly at the screen/ The other gripe is that it takes ups prety much all the GPIO pins Other than that it's a fantastic screen and games really look stunning on such a small display. Thickness isn't too bad as well, thinking of a project now :)

On this point, there's now an official Pi display. I'm still weighing up my options on what to do (even to the point of thinking about a VGA-out with a scanline-generator) but it looks like yet another good option for displays. Have a feeling that might squeeze into an iCade cabinet horizontally, too.

Thanks that's great. If it can be run 24/7 I should be fine as I'm only thinking about falling to sleep with it on so it's more like it's going to be running 6-8 hours.....Zzzzzz thanks!Pi's can be used 24/7 but might freeze up after extended periods with gl games, on day to day use it should fine as the TDP is amazingly low and it doesnt get that warm. You can write a script to reboot after a certain timeframe it if you want.
I don't believe you do, actually. Don't they work via USB as well?Really impressed with the Pi 2 I got last week from an emulation/media playing standpoint and it's nice to be back fiddling around with Linux again as it makes me feel like a hacker in an 80s movie. Bought an 8bitdo controller last night but it's just dawned on me I need a bluetooth dongle for that, can anyone point me towards a cheap one that will work with the minimum of faff in Retropie please?
So you guys with experience would you do the Pi again for a retro machine or a windows machine on Core 2 duo and a normal motherboard power supply all that jazz?
I am thinking from all the reading that I would be better off that way since I can get windows to play with the xbox 360 controllers native than fighting linux to see and use them.
You won't be able to beat the Pi2 at its hardware and software price, power footprint and small form factor. If neither of those are of concern for you even a Mac mini could do the job (but what's the point posting in this thread then). So you guys with experience would you do the Pi again for a retro machine or a windows machine on Core 2 duo and a normal motherboard power supply all that jazz?
