Destiny 2.0 Patch (2015-09-08) Gives All Players Access to New PvP Maps and Gametypes

I like Destiny, I really do. I played hundreds of hours of it before even the first expansion came out. heck, I even pre-ordered the first 2 DLCs long before they even have a release date. but here I am, haven't touch the game once after the release of the first DLC (The Dark Below). and yes, that meant I haven't even touched the House Of Wolves DLC even thou I already paid for it.

the reason I stopped playing is a combination of difficulty in finding groups to do raids for someone who's play time is rather unpredictable (or a proper social hub that I can interact with other players to join in high end raids), and the way they implement the "upgrade" for the rare weapons that I've already spent so much time and effort to obtain and level up. and the lack of story and PvE content, even not that big a deal for me, does made for another annoyance.

I can kinda deal with the grind to level up weapons again but the whole situation with not being able to find group through an in game hub is just ridiculous, especially for a game with such heavy MMO elements. has there been any improvement on this issue? can I find a random group without having to use some website out there if I don't have that many in game friends? I think I might give TTK a try depending the answer to these problems but to be honest I might just be burned out on grinding in Destiny.

You still have to go out of your way to find groups for raids as you can't match make. This has been beaten to death now but there are resources out there, if you are willing to take the time to use, that help with finding a group.

They've also toned down the upgrade routes to be more mindful of your time. One of the biggest changes is that Exotics have their unique talent unlocked from the start so you don't have to "level" it to get it to a good state.

if you sign up for https://www.the100.io/ you can be grouped with up to 100 people that share a similar playstyle (casual vs hardcore), age, or time/timezone played. It also has an active chatroom so you can talk and see if anyone's on. The big thing on this site is you can schedule games and even browse games based on start times. There's a single Gaf Xbox One group going on there as well https://www.the100.io/groups/1658 with a couple PS4 groups as I recall.

And you still have your destinylfg.com&net sites which are a pain in the ass to use if you don't have a tablet/smartphone right by you.

to expand upon that s/he can bug people in dgaf for raid groups which isn't that difficult at all people are always ready to play there at any given time.

thanks for all the resource. I'll check into them and see if it helps my situation.

No one else mad about them retiring content?

We know they did this with the patrol events from DB to HoW but with TTK you will not be able to complete any queens wrath missions, so they are completely gone. What's the point of Petra and the reef now?

Look I am okay with seasonal things and retiring stuff for new content. What I am not okay is telling me the content I paid $20 to $40 for only granted me a couple of months access to that content.

Remember you won't have access to anymore Erris Morn bounties from Dark Below either it is all being moved to TTK. AGAIN, I am okay with general retiring of stuff when it's free and not paid content.

Games like Guild Wars have seasons and story lines that you have to be there for, but they don't charge for each season or episode.

Finally I'd be okay if the content from parts of Year 1 scaled or was actually worth a damn.

New players coming in will only have access to shitty story of Dark Below and the somewhat okay story in HoW but none of the other content. It shows to me that Bungie is fucking terrible at scaling the content.

The game should have been designed to lead people from vanilla to DB content being level 29 to 32 to HoW content being 31 to 34 etc or not even use that scale .

As it is, TTK starts at 25 or so, so why would anyone play or replay year one stuff. I feel like if you have a living game you shouldn't abandon your initial product but keep improving it and lord know they shouldn't be cutting any content.

I mean they could have kept one or two zones on the moon still running for DB missions and one or two zones on earth or Venus for HoW missions and then added in TTK to Mars and the new area.

So I am kind of miffed that Queens Wratg goes away. I also hope they go back and add some new challenges to old zones, raids and Arena.

I mean why the fuck would anyone play the arena now once TTK is out? So I paid $20 to play an expansion for ~5 months? This looks like a pattern and a shitty one at that.

That is pretty shitty. My gripe with Bungie/Activision is basically that they have a subscription system in place but they don't call it that. I just want them to be upfront about it. I don't think it's cool to take content away from people who paid for it. When TDB was released the first nightfall was a TDB only strike so people who hadn't bought the expansion did not have a nightfall/weekly for that week. The same thing happened with the dailies. The right thing to do is to provide a separate playlist for people who have not bought your DLC. Those people bought the vanilla game expect end game content every week.

Overall it's just a very shitty practice and they have been getting away with it.

I don't know what I would do in my life if I had never heard the phrase, "Want to run the lamps real quick?" Just thinking about it makes me want to fire up the PS4, put on a pair of Don't Touch Me's, and LFG some good souls.

For all that is good, please, try a Crota raid. You won't regret it.

This is a pretty one sided way of looking at what's happening with Destiny.

Take the complaint about Eris Mourn bounties going away. Her bounties go, but there is also a total refresh of the Vanguard and Crucible bounties, which will far outweight hers dropping off.

And you weren't paying for the Wolf pack patrols with the DLC - those were available to everyone who had the game. And while they are going away, they're getting replaced with Taken events, just as the Blades of Crota were replaced with the Wolves. Patrols are being updated across the board on all planets, for everyone. All new tower vendor and faction gear replaces what was there before. These are the kind of updates everyone gets, regardless of what DLC you own in the game.

The strikes and daily missions get refreshed with new modifiers and loot. Crucible, Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris are being refreshed for the endgame. The only things that are not being updated with Taken King are the two year 1 raids, and Prison of Elders, and it's not like they are being taken away - they are just not the endgame any longer.

That's how Destiny is going to continue to evolve: the public spaces will get new events as time goes on. New loot will replace old loot. The endgame will churn, with some older activities left as they are, some moved forward, and old content added to the mix. I don't think Bungie should be under an obligation to refresh every single activity in the game every time they add new content. It's an odd thing to ask for, but also an unreasonable one: as activities accumulate, so does the work that goes into refreshing them all. An endgame that is bursting with every activity in the game is not a very desirable state, IMO. Content should be spaced across the leveling curve, and it's okay to fill that curve with activities that were added previously as time goes on and the game is further built out.

Good deal they're adding those maps for people to check out. I probably won't return to Destiny now that I've gotten the needle out but that's cool news all the same

The consumer side?

That refresh is a change to the base game, though. The point still remains that TDB content players paid for not that long ago is being removed. It would be one thing to revamp that content as well (new versions of the Eris Morn bounties in the new bounty questlines, for example), but they aren't revamping it; they're removing it.

The bounties are a tiny fraction of the content. Hell, most of her bounties are just kill x enemy type. And with the gunsmith offering telemetry a dozen, they're not even needed anymore really.

I'm hard pressed to get angry 5 bounties a week are getting swapped out.

This isn't really correct. Eris' bounties are being removed, but are being replaced with proper quests that will still let you raise your Eris faction. Things are just changing with the general questification of the game.

Yeah but think about it like this, that needle you got out before was rusty and dirty

This is a clean German engineered needle..

Nah not cool to joke about heroin I will shut up.

Anyway, I have no problem with the wolves going away, it just reminds me of war craft, remember Arthas sending the undead to attack, it didn't last forever.

As far as people being locked out of weeklies and nightfall? Imo, Destiny is the type of game where if you're not playing the newest things 5 months into the game why bother?

btw guys, think about this:

VoG and Crota will give you lots of shards/energy which can turn into motes of light.
Also all the items in there you get turn into motes of light/more shards/energy.

Motes of Light can be used to buy engrams from Xur or (new) to give XP to weapons/armor.

So technically, doing VoG and Crota is NOT totally useless, it's actually a nice little way of getting guaranteed motes.
That's a good way of looking at it. I wish there would be a little more incentive to go back and do them, but that seems like something I would be willing to do once a week. Maybe not multiple times

That's because POE is a much better experience than the Crota raid, which was essentially cheese central.

Prison of elders was horrible and boring after the first few weeks. I never got bored of something so quickly than I did with that activity.

The only thing being removed is the Wolf Patrols.

All of the Dark Below storyline and missions will remain and playable.
All of the House of Wolves storyline and PoE will remain and playable.

All Year 1 guns and armor will be just as good as they are now in Year 1 content, and are damage-equaled to Year 2 gear in regular Crucible.

The only thing changing about Eris is her specific bounties that she gives out every week. Eris herself will remain and you'll still be able to rank her up.

Indeed they have said that she will have specific quests in the new update. So owners of that dlc are getting new/refreshed content not just losing some bounties (that are frankly pretty tedious after the 10th time anyway).

The consumer is lot losing content with the advent of the Destiny expansions, so this is an absurd point to make.

If Eris Morn is getting refreshed/revised content, it's indeed an entirely different circumstance than if her content is just going away. The latter impression has been out in the community for a while now. If the former is, instead, true, that's very good to hear. I think Bungie's communication about this could improve some.

Yes, they specifically said her bounties go away because she gains quests that give you rep for her.
You don't lose content, your content is just changed around.

fucking damn it, I've honestly been saying this to my friends (who played year 1) & others asking about the game since launch.

the game is about $8/month - deal with it, either you want to pay that or you don't. that's how it is. they should've said that at the start. ------- i have no problem with it, and i love the game.

sorry all, i have to agree with this. i played the game religiously (unhealthy) since alpha and once PoE was out I was bored to shit with it 4 weeks in - 2 weeks after i had already "maxed out" my characters. i already had the 3 exotics from it, and after that it's trying to get different burns of all the wolf guns you already had - which weren't better than the primaries you were already using, and you could buy from an npc???. what the fuck? for the record i'm in for year 2.

It's an online game with constant updates and support. It's common sense. I don't understand why it rubs people the wrong way. Nothing is free.

The last AAA FPS I can think of that had any kind of large post-launch support for free was BFBC2 and that was 5 years ago. Not sure why people expect it in this day and age.
