Mission 45 is some pure fucking horseshit. Anytime this game decides to throw mountains of armored vehicles at you it just goes to complete trash. Combined with the horrible checkpoint system you can lose a ton of progress from a single hit from these damn things.

The more of this bullshit I encounter in the second half of this game, the more I turn on it. I was merely tolerating it before because I felt it was worth it, but now I legitimately think the second half of this game is bad. Mission spoilers:
How about redoing the Quiet fight except this time she one hit kills you if she sees you for more than a second? Or missions 16 and 29 against the Skulls that are just boring sponge fights where they can wipe you at in a second too? It's bad design and frustrating.

lol at some of the cardboard box dialog with the Russian soldiers.

Also I kinda miss codecs too, especially those + cutscenes when stuff got real.

okay these fucking helmets on EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER are driving me insane. But previously every time I sent my guys out on ANY mission at least one would come back dead (even though it said 3% chance of losses). And I lost some really good A+ ranks like that.

I finally have enough disposable B ranks to give it a shot but I can't get the mission under 10% chance of losses, am I doing something wrong here?

let them go out onto the field, they know what they signed up for.. oh wait they were kidnapped.. nevermind.

Yeah, that's like one or two moments. And then nothing.

where are you in the game again?

this is a huge game, it's more of a slow burner than an interactive film like the other games.

[OT2] Gotta Fult'em All

okay these fucking helmets on EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER are driving me insane.
I found it neat that the helmets got buffed from Peace Walker, where you could shoot them off and it would make them stop moving just enough that you got the headshot anyway.

There's been next to no identifiably Metal Gear moments so far, huge disappointment.

Its metal gear, but a different kind of metal gear. The tone is there but the emphasis is not in flashy cutscenes.

Its metal gear moments come through in gameplay moments:

like mission 11 spoiler
supply drop neutralising quiet

or mission 20 spoiler
using the water gun to stun fireman not-volgin

I'm a massive MGS fan, and so far, I'm really not enjoying this. Missions are really long and boring, the craziness of past MG games is considerably muted, and I'm just not having fun.

I'm not even that far. I'm on mission 7 and I don't want to play this anymore. Should I push on? Does it become the MGS I love at some point?

If you don't love it for the gameplay you probably won't love it at all.

Concerning Huey, late game spoilers
planning to use Otacon to power his new Metal Gear and then accidentally killing Strangelove, plus killing Skullface. I'd say his fate was more than deserved.

Huey spoilers:
it really didn't seem like killing Strangelove was an accident.

Uh, what the fuck? Medical Strut (post-Mission 16, I guess)...
So I guess in canon Ground Zeros they got both bombs out of Paz and it was a missile strike that took down the chopper? I was just exploring the area and definitely didn't expect this. I remember seeing Paz in one the trailers so I immediately thought it was a clone. She doesn't look nine years older.

Ok, so I just finished Mission 31 and "beat" the game? Credits roll, and a major character SPOILERS
Paz
is listed... and I never found this person or anything. Did I screw up or something?

Wait, what?
chapter 2?
Oh, ok. This makes sense now.

So a guy just invaded my base. By the time I got there everyone was tranq'd or dead. I was standing right next to the door, which had only two very open approaches that I could clearly see. So I scan and clear both ways, turn my back for literally a second to kick a guy in the head to help me, and it says Defense Lost.

What gives? Lag? Some invisishit you can actually use in FOBs that I don't know about? Dude made out like a bandit and now his name is blacked out when I try to retaliate.

You beat chapter 1

No it doesn't outside of maybe 5 minutes worth of cutscenes. What you've played is pretty much the game.

I keep triggering cutscenes when returning to base, I thought they were just some cool scenes like in the first half, but now I'm seeing some pretty important stuff.

Wondet if they're actually main cutscenes.

I'm glad I S-ranked mission 18 on the first try because the end of it sucked.
The kids bugged out right before the chopper and would NOT move or respond to anything. I hadn't used any retries up until this point but after losing 2 choppers waiting for them to do something I reloaded. And then they bugged out again but at least this time nothing showed up to kill my helicopter.

If sneaking in the daytime are the different camos better than the sneaking suit?

As I start to fight enemies who aren't blind as hell, I'm rapidly losing faith in the sneaking suit. Woodland camo 4 life.

But yeah when the sun rises I call in a delivery for some camo. Works great.

Given the news about MGS5's cut content, you could say the game is suffering from... Phantom Content.
If sneaking in the daytime are the different camos better than the sneaking suit?

IIRC sneaking suit performs worse in daytime, so yes.

Don't operate in daytime. Why anyone would willingly operate in daytime is beyond me.

Same for me, what happened is
the group split apart and you gotta be near certain kids to command other kids to move, so it seems like kids are just ignoring you. Awful crappy escort mission

ok so mission 14 i think. I have to tail an enemy but he just walks around in circles.

What am I doing wrong?

uhm if it's the mission I think it is, then miller gives you an radio message that they're gonna do their thing at night time. So you can watch them go around in circles until night, or search the area to find what they're looking for before them.

I'm still just a few percent in but just wondering, so MGSV is very different from the other MGS, it's now light on cutscenes and more focused on gameplay?

Kiefers lack of talking left me with a complete suspension of belief at the end of chapter 23.
You want me to honestly believe we have an elaborate plan to help these child soldiers adapt to normal lifestyles and Kiefer tells the kid maybe three sentences in all? He literally tells him welcome to MB, don't kill anyone, learn to use your head. Only three things of note he says to him. And hes supposed to know why the hell hes there or what hes doing in an area full of people he doesn't know after being kidnapped from the army he led? The hell.

Operating in daytime is good to scout and mark targets for fultoning. Also, cardboard box in broad daylight for days.

NVG are my real buddy.

Definitely. The storytelling (and dialog in general) is mostly relegated to the cassettes.

Fortunately they really nailed down a solid world and mechanics. It really is a blast to play.
