Help me see the coolness in Lightsabers,....

Been ingesting star wars stuff for a long time and I always found Lightsabers to be the silliness part of the whole thing. Why create a weapon that is just as dangerous as the user as it is to the enemy? And every variation of the weapon makes it worse then the original

Lord Nyax anyone?

Ezra's lightsaber is the first improvement of the damn thing. Lock swords then shoot folks in the face

Because swords made out of lasers are inherently cool. Of course they're stupidly impractical, but people like the idea of them much like people like the idea of swords in modern day. Archaic as hell, but still cool.

This is correct, though. A straight lightsaber will always be the best, all the shape variations (including Maul's double-sided) ain't shit. TFA's new one with the laser hilt looks dumb

It's a friggin glowing sword of energy that cuts through literally everything!

What's not to get?

Laser swords. Combining the old and the new. Plus awesome sounds.

Also, it's escapism science fiction. Why not go all out?

Is it really that different than a sword in that respect. And in terms of practicality, deflecting projectiles is a huge point in it's favor.

Also it's a dumb action movie and looks badass.

It's a sword made of laser, it doesn't have to make sense, if you don't find it cool as it is, stop trying to, it's not your thing. Period.

Definitely one of the most overrated weapons of all time. Maybe the new star wars film will be able to change my mind.

So far I've just never really seen lightsabers as this incredible weapon it gets hyped to be. They're so out of place in a universe as technologically advanced as the star wars universe is. I always feel like lightsabers make it seem more like jedi's fighting with a handicap than anything else.

Are we talking about overall hilt design or some other method to utilize the saber part like lightsaber shoto or lightsaber whips? cause those are dumb.

Dooku's lightsaber design is all in the hilt, which is cool cause that's just his personal preference.

japanese swords were dangerous as fuck to people who didn't know what to do with an extra sharp, extra light blade that went where you told it,

Come on Slayven, ya shoulda been honest with the thread title and just called it "Lightsabers are dumb, come at me bro". :P

Against what? Laser Pistols? Jedi's routinely deflect thousands of laser shots fired at them with their light sabers and the force while cutting the distance between them and the person firing at them.

Tho they should carry a laser pistol in addition to their sabers, or that sabe pistol in the OP.

It's not dangerous to the user if they have the force. That's the point of it. It's such a powerful weapon only a select few gifted individuals can ever wield it.

They used to be cool, back when maybe five people in the entire galaxy had the power, training and discipline to use a vintage melee weapon in an age of laser guns.

Then the prequels happened.

Yeah, I don't see how it's any dangerous to the user than any real-life sword. The only exception would be Maul's double-bladed lightsaber. There's a reason you only see something like that in fantasy.

its fluff. a Mind Ninja with a laser gun is considered way way OP, so they have given them laser swords instead.

anyway, the old notion that the sword was the soul of the warrior made material, the light saber is just a more literal take on that. A literal energy blade that a space ninja can only build once their warrior souls are ready for Jedi stuff.

Eh but when i was a kid, after watching Return of the Jedi, I wanted to see Jedi back when they were still around. I got to see that with the prequels. Granted almost everything else about the prequels could have been better.

dude it's a fucking lazer that you can hold in your hands to fight off killer robots and space demons with

if i have to explain the coolness of that sentence alone then you're just a big ol square

If you don't get it the first time you see one I don't know what to tell you

Pretty much.

If you didn't think it was awesome the first time you saw Luke fire up Anakin's lightsaber, you're never ever ever gonna think they're awesome.

And there's nothing we can say or show you that will convince you otherwise.

Opinions, what are they?

That lightsaber is pretty awesome. But it's my opinion, and I will state it as an opinion and not a fact.

There are plenty of times to call someone out on stating an opinion as a fact. My post wasn't one of those times. You don't have to preface every opinion with "I think" to spell it out

Well I guess if you were the only one with a Lightsaber, nothing could stand in your way. But if your enemy has one the best thing you could hope for is your own, as dangerous as it is.
