Hey guys,

Sam Mullen here, Localization Producer for Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX and the Project DIVA series. I just wanted to stick my head in and say thanks to you all for your interest and hype about Project Mirai DX. I’m so excited about this game coming out this week (mainly because I want StreetPasses for it!!!!)

Since this is right before the masses get their hands on it, I wanted to let you in on a couple thing’s I’ve figured out about the game. I’ve played this game extensively at this point, all which-a-ways, and I've devised what I would call the "Loc Producer's Rules to Min-Maxing Your Mirai DX Experience". Naturally, everyone can play however they want, more power to you. But I think if you follow these three tips, you will experience the game in the best way possible. Hear me out:

1. Do Not Rush It
Don’t be in a hurry to unlock all the hard difficulties just to test your skill or see the hardest target charts. I feel like every chart is enjoyable in its own way, even the easiest ones. Savor the build up to the hardest levels, and spend time perfecting those lower difficulties before moving on, because moving up to harder levels before perfecting the lower ones may spoil your appreciation of them.

2. Set Your Goal Appropriate To Your Skill Level
I feel like many players misunderstand the difficulty balancing of this title. Project Mirai DX is, by design, a game that offers multiple levels of difficulty across a VERY broad spectrum of skill levels, simultaneously in each single song and difficulty. First time rhythm game player? Try to get to the end of the song. Played some other rhythm games on 3DS? You better be getting A or S ranks. Project DIVA veteran? If you miss a single SP Mark, you better be hittin’ that retry button. Rhythm Game God? Burn all your Play Coins on the "Do or Die" items and make it rain MP. If you feel like the game isn't challenging you, then I encourage you to set your goal higher!

3. More Than A Rhythm Game
While I know a lot of players will come for specifically the rhythm game, Project Mirai DX is a little microcosm of a world at your finger tips if you take the time to see it. The level of detail of the characters and their actions, the easter eggs, hidden events, the deeeeeeep unlockables, the mini games, the StreetPass stuff. There’s so much else in this game, but you really have to put some time into it to get the most out of it. Out of all the reviews I’ve read so far, no one barely cuts below the surface on the secondary and tertiary stuff in this game. If you just play the rhythm game and unlock every hard song and stop, you’ve probably only seen and experienced about 20% of the game’s content. Even if you were to perfect every song, mode, and difficulty on your first play, that's 288 plays (and then some)! There is soooo much game here!

Anyway, that’s just my personal opinion on it. It’s a really great game, and for those who haven’t experienced the Project Mirai flavor of gameplay, you’re in for a load of fun. And if it happens to be your first Miku game, well, welcome to the rabbit hole. It is very deep, my friend.

Hi Sam! I have to agree; there is sooooo much to do in the game. I mean, even PuyoPuyo! That alone is extremely addictive. I love that it is set to the songs in the game.

You mentioned playing every song, mode, and difficulty level is 288 plays. You didn't mention when you have the songs in your head and you need to hop on to play your favorites for a quick fix. It's never a quick fix! Before you know it, you're saying, "Oh, I want to play this one...oh, and this one...okay, last one...This time I mean it....Last one, for sure."

When I get the songs out of my head for a bit, all three of my kids are singing them and before you know it...I'm on it again!

I managed to SpotPass once and can't wait to connect with more people!!!

I had just finished reviewing the game. This is my very first video review. All of the gameplay footage is from me. Can you guys please offer up some constructive criticism for me? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks bunches!

I guess it partly depends on who your target audience is for the review, but to me, it feels quite a bit long and drawn out. The explanation of the game mechanics can probably be shortened, because as it is, like a third of the video is just explaining the core rhythm gameplay in much more detail than needed. Avoid going into full walkthrough-mode would be my advice here.

I was actually thinking the same thing and wanted to utilize more of the gameplay. Thanks for feedback!

Hello Sam, great post about the game and it sums it up mostly about what I have written in my review.

I tried the demo and I like what I play so far but I have no idea what the song is about. As far as I'm concerned the singing is just random noise to me lol. Just to be curious how many of you actually understand the song. Still not sure if I want this.

Thanks for this.

I seriously cannot wait to get my hands on this one, but unfortunately I must wait a few more days. Here's hoping Amazon.ca ships my copy on-time, I need my Hatsune Miku!

Can that awful "you hit the note" sound be turned down or off
Yep, the sound effect for each individual note can be changed or set to off, or you can adjust the song's sound effect volume.

...
Yeah, I hope people will add some comments in the songs. The NicoNicoDouga-inspired feature is one of the lesser-known, but it totally makes sense for StreetPassing.

One of the games in the series, Project Diva F 2nd, actually had lyrics translated into English. This doesn't seem to be present here, though. Embrace the Miku, you know you want to.

Cheat sheet:
Senbonzakura is about Japan's wavering identity or something, LOL is about getting high and falling asleep in front of your computer.

Very much looking forward to this. Love the Diva games.
The demo of this kind of gave me more enjoyment than I was getting playing IA/VT.

Some people just look up song lyrics like me, you don't have to though.

Hiya Sam! Thanks for the tips; I'll be sure to keep them in mind. I'd also like to add that I appreciate all the hard work you and your team do/have done for the Miku games.

Nice, Gumi is in this. Will buy for sure.

Is there a possibility of DLC songs?
I want Donut Hole to complete that good tracklist.

That music is great, but I don't think that this game will receive any DLC.

It is already out in Japan for a while and no DLC there.

Tip: Check Taiko no Tatsujin V. It has Donut Hole, but sang by the artist instead of vocaloid.

Thanks for this.

I'm gonna bug Amazon on Wednesday if they don't ship (and they won't) by then. Like hell I'm gonna wait until next Tuesday just for shipping and another x days for delivery.

Need that chibi World is Mine in me

Whoa, you guys. After playing Mirai for the past couple of weeks, I tried playing some DIVA today and... I can't believe how comparatively unappealing and bland "regular" Miku is to me from a visual standpoint. It feels like she and the other Vocaloids were always meant to be chibi. I just can't see them any other way now.

Also this is easily my new favorite Miku song, like oh my god:

Haha, I might do the same. I normally don't mind waiting a few days, but this is Miku we're talking about here. Patience be damned!

Those videos in the OP reaffirmed my belief that Mikudayo is horrifying.

Really looking forward to getting this and seeing just how much stuff there is to do! Hoping I can get into this one as much as I got into Diva F1. (Chibi Miku > Diva Miku)

...that is pretty terrifying, but I feel it lacks the murderous intent that Mikudayo seems to have. If I had to choose one of them to be stuck in a locked room with, I'd choose Shiteyano.
True enough. I, too, find Mikudayo terrifying.

Also, what's worse than one Mikudayo? A Mikudayo accompanied by a Sakura Mikudayo.

I can actually see Mikudayo being in a horror film. I mean, look at her here - she's clearly about to do something unspeakable to that poor Doraemon:

I called Puyo Puyo pretty hard when the preview page came out.

http://neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=176359740&highlight=#post176359740

New Puyo Puyo confirmed.

Three Nine can be read as "San kyuu" which can be used as thank you in Japanese:
https://books.google.se/books?id=QBxkAAAAMAAJ&q=sankyuu&dq=sankyuu&lr=&pgis=1&hl=sv

Puyo Puyo games typically have shitty number puns for their names like "Puyo Puyo San (Sun)", "Puyo Puyo-n" (yon = 4) and "Puyo Puyo Fever" (five)

Colors are the same colors as puyo puyo balls:
Puyo_colored.png

SEGA owns the Puyo Puyo license.

Believe.

TL;DR: I'm pretty much the best.

edit: OK, this actually seems to be another game :(

Yeah, I was first turned off by the chibi style, but they are way too cute.
I honestly much like Mirai DX than the Project f series if only because normal is fair.

As for my favorite song, Snowman is becoming it.

Favorite songs as of now: Ageage Again & Nice To Meet You, Mr. Earthling

I do the same thing. It helps add to the feeling of the song when it is replayed and you know what is being sung.

Some songs are just nonsensical in the first place, so that helps out real nice and makes me feel better about singing along when I'm not concentrating super hard.

I downloaded the demo off the eshop. Lol has been stuck in my head. I went from not giving a fuck about miku to seriously wondering how I'm going to get this game. Might be the eba/gitaroo man style game I've been waiting for for the 3DS.

Gitaroo-man is a pretty good comparison actually. It is much like combining the attack and defense phases.

EBA/OTO being tap only makes it harder to compare though.

Probably going to pick this up. How is the difficulty?
Each song is scored on a 1-10 difficulty curve with 5 being average. Easy is 1-4, Normal is 4-7, and Hard is 7-10
Honestly I find you should pass anything 6 or below with no trouble. Hard is where the game kicks it up.

Do you think it's just that the meaning gets lost in translation? Hello/How are You? is a song I just had to look up, playing through Project Mirai DX. I just couldn't get it out of my head and the artwork showed a sad Miku and I needed to know the meaning.

I think "regular" Miku can be just as fun, it's why I prefer the Arcade stuff to the console as the constantly changing outfits throughout a song I found to be much more interesting:
