What's Up With Fountain Drink Lids?

I don't even know what those are for!

It's written right on the thing what they're there for.

And I've always seen them used when an order contains different types. So if I went out with 3 other people and I ordered a diet while they all ordered a regular then the diet bubble would be pressed in on mine.

But does anyone use them?

No one does this, tho.

Usually they don't have to. If I ordered a Diet Coke from a drive through at Mcdonalds, they're just going to give me a Diet Coke. It's an easy order that they won't mess up. If I on the other hand order a Diet Coke and a Root Beer than either party could mess up and think the Root Beer is a Coke or the Coke is a Root Beer. In that case the lid would indicate what type of drink it is.

My brother and I used to get the same drinks when we were kids. We popped different bubbles to make sure we didn't get our drinks mixed up. It was quite convenient. :)

On a related note, I've noticed that drink lids have been more prone to cracking when you remove them. Planned obsolescence for soda lids?

If they pour a drink, and it's diet coke next to my coke, and I end up getting someone's nasty ass diet coke, I'll be pissed. Press the diet button on their shit.

If you order multiple drinks that aren't a different color the people pouring the drinks for you use them correctly probably 50% of the time.

What grinds my gears are the red lids they have at Mcdonalds. Apparently they're fore ice tea, but often the management just forgets to order enough large lids and I have to use one and it makes me feel like I'm five, drinking out of a sippy cup.

What the hell does the P stand for then?

I would imagine "Punch",as in Fruit Punch or the like.

They are mainly used when you have multiples of similar looking drinks. I always get Dr Pepper, and my partner Coke. They will be pressed then to distinguish the different dark sodas.
