Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Just some thoughts on replacement springs if you find the Hori Hayabusa sticks too loose.

I tried a 2 lb spring, but it felt way too stiff and it was hard to keep the joystick stable when moving the stick around (with a Hori 4Kai). However Paradise Arcade Shop has a 1.5 lb spring which I put in instead, and it feels just about perfect. I think I finally prefer it to a default Sanwa stick now. I think Sanwas have a 0.9 lb spring.

Good info. +1

What are your top custom stick makers out there? Really looking for a minimalist and/or clean design. Looked at Foehammer but it seems they are only selling shells.

You can get a pretty minimalist stick by buying a stock TE or TE2 and doing basic mods yourself. Recent examples from this thread:

Yeah... I'm not excited to make the switch. It really didn't need to be bigger, and certainly not those dimensions.

I much prefer the TE2 to the original in part because it's bigger.

TE is one of my least favorite madcatz sticks. The VS and the TE2 are by far my favorites from them. TE2 has some problems, but it's form factor isn't one, imo.

What problems are you referring to?

It comes stock with awful plexi that is really loose. When replacing buttons, I've found they don't fit right (with stock plexi) even with the button ring things that come with the stick. I've had the plexi come up around the buttons.

I agree with people who say you shouldn't need to replace the plexi on a 200 dollar stick. I don't mind as much, though, and think with art's plexi this stick is amazing and feels perfect.

I've been playing with a Razer stick for X1. I really like a lot of things about this stick: detachable cord, solid feel, the easy access top, storage inside, etc. But this thing is just too damn heavy! Wouldn't work well as a travel stick, but it'll be good for using at home.

To each their own. Something being different doesn't mean it's bad. If you don't like 'bulky' sticks, that's fine. I love them.
did....did you read the way I wrote that

sounds similar to the TE2 then. TE2 detachable cord even screws on (Atrox do that?)

I bought a VLX kuro from neozuko, and I've been playing on the kuros.... They feel great. A lot better than the ones in my couple years old by now fighting edges. I was so against the buttons, I didn't even try them out when I got my first vlx kuro. I'm going to keep them in for this one.

What a twist.

Any word/update on that tiny stick MarkMan posted on the last page? Anything in a smaller form-factor is easier to get past the girlfriend, so I'm all for it. I tend to find more comfort with those, too.

I'm very likely going to just buy a Sega arcade panel/bezel off yahoo auctions since I hate console sticks (it's also cheaper than buying another HSS-0130 which is just a Sega arcade panel/bezel).

Anyway should I try to hack a Hori Fight commander or just buy PS360+ PCBs? The latter is kinda annoying to future proof at the moment unless Per figures out a way to get around the PS4 security like the Brook adaptor people did.

I'm no good with soldering so the former would be an issue.

Now time to play the waiting game.

Anniversary/Birthday gift. It's gonna be all black, but will have engraving with name and a logo/coat of arms on the right side panels instead of painted art work. Might have it engraved on the left as well, but I like asymmetrical designs and since this stick is also asymmetrical I think it only fitting to do it that way. Might also have XB1/360 compatibility, but I have to wait on the word for stacking PCBs.

Will do an unboxing when it gets here.

Sounds really nice. Looking forward to the follow up.

Do companies sell their products for a discount at conventions? I'm considering going to Pax East next year and was wondering if I should wait and pick up a TE2 then.

I bought a HRAP Pro.V Hayabusa recently and want to put a plexi and custom art on it from Arts Hobbies. He has just about every HRAP listed on his site EXCEPT this "Pro.V" model, which I was told is just the Japanese version of the HRAP sticks.

Basically, does anyone have this stick and if so does it feature the surface area and screw placement as the V3/V4/VX/ SA? I know the Kai stick has wider spacing between joystick and buttons but this Pro.V is standard spacing like the V3/V4/VX/ SA from what I can tell and doing research online (which there isn't much to go on).

I emailed Art about it awhile ago before I made the purchase but he never answered, thought maybe someone here would know

feeling p r e t t y shitty for spending $80 on a bottom panel for my astrocity control panel, but I never see them on eBay and opportunity knocked. meh.

How do people that aren't members of Shoryuken.com go about commissioning or getting decent artwork for their sticks? (My login lapsed it seems, and I guess you need an invite to sign up now).

I have a couple of cheapie MayflashV2/Venom sticks coming and I'm about as artistic as Trump is eloquent... still hoping to get better artwork in there than the stock black/gray.

Cross-posted from the FGC thread:

Hey so my TE stick broke recently and I was wondering what kind of stick I should get next. I was originally gonna wait for the SFV Chun li stick to come out and get that, but now I'm thinking of getting the Qanba Q2 glow. It seems to be a good deal at $135. Anyone have any experience with one of these? Link here.

I should mention I'm looking to get a stick for PC in case someone wants to recommend something else. Thanks.

Gonna be doing something different soon. I'm taking an SFIV arcade stick and instead of the normal art mods I'm using PVC Mirror Chrome Vinyl on the case. Basically you heat gun it, stretch it and it forms a bond. They use it on cars to make them look like this.

Wish me luck. I'll have a lot to mess with and I'll have to gut the electronics out entirely first. Should be cool looking once its done though. No buttons yet, but one thing at a time.

I'll wish you luck! I'm very interested to hear how you get on with this and would appreciate a few pictures and words around the process if you can do that. I've often considered doing this on other projects but applying it to irregular shapes has put me off tbh.

Arcadeshock is doing a 15% off coupon thing for almost all their products as a courtesy for taking a vacation and delaying shipping till September 23rd.

Pretty decent if you want those Guilty Gear/BlazBlue pushbuttons and balltops.

It works for everything except the newest Hori sticks.

Okay I finished up. I went ahead and did the top plate with that stuff even though I don't have a replacement balltop or buttons for the new build. The stuff works pretty decently. It had a paper backing to it with graph paper on it. Felt like the same thick laminate top label stickers I've used before but when you heat it the stuff gets super thin and rubbery and tends to curl. Not hard to work with though...due to this you only need a second with the heat gun to get it ready to make a strong bond. Just heat, and rub on it and it'll grip like mad.

Had to take the guts out entirely though. You need the stick, turbo, and button holes empty then you just top sheet the whole thing. After that I used an x-acto knife from my scalpel kit to easily puncture the vinyl over the holes and peel it back. Once peeled I just pressed it up on the inside of the label. Lesson learned though...I should have just left the top plate screwed on the case once the electronics were out because I had to cut screw holes in the finished plate to reattach it. Had I laid a sheet of this over it, and heated/pressed it on from there with the case still screwed on it wouldn't have those. Since I needed to scalpel trim anyhow I could have just taken a poker card to press the vinyl into seams once heated then trimmed with the scalpel that way to avoid having screws showing.

Stuff worked great and was easy. You need that scalpel kit though because at the end any millimeters of extra around the seems needs traced with the scalpel and gently filleted out for a clean fit. Only problem I have though are that I had used a rubber cement to help force my old label to stay to the stick because it kept coming off before. Due to this my stick wasn't smooth and polished and had small areas of glue...those areas are NOT smooth on my stick currently. This PVC Vinyl chrome picks up any imperfection. Due to this you need to have your top plate COMPLETELY SMOOTH. Also I bought mine and it was not a good quality chrome. Its not as mirror polished as I've seen. Very shiny and neat, but not mirror shine so by quality. Its cheap where ever you get it though, but don't ebay from some unknown in China as I did if you want a mirror shine I guess.

Here's the result. Not bad for a trial run. Needs more work for sure on buttons and balltop and I'll likely remove this one and sand my top plate smooth and go for a second run later. However, I'd say it works nice and easy to use this stuff, but it'll take a bit better quality gear to finish this stick. I'm gonna look around to car customization sites next for more of this stuff in a higher quality.

Sad thing is that there is no way to press this over the case without a seam. It stretches and seals fine, but if I tried to just press a flat sheet over the sides from the top I'd invariably end up with wrinkles over the tops where the sides are. Due to this I'll likely paint the case itself for a custom trim next time I do this. Probably sand it and use car paints or a nice brass or something. Problem with metal paints is that the chromium used for the shine is top coat resilient. Gonna have to look around on that one.

I'm considering finding a Kaimana LED PCB for this stick for when I get buttons and goin LED with it. The chrome and light show would be neat.

I went to Tokyo Game Show this year and Arc System Works had a booth in the merchandise hall with some pretty cool accessories.

So after a solid week of using the new Kuros, I'm sold on having all Hori parts now.

I mean, I'm not going to go out of my way to get Kuros, especially with the lack of color options, but this newest batch feels awesome. I especially love that the snaps on them aren't brittle like the sanwa buttons that I always end up breaking.

I agree! The kuros are great buttons. I played a lot of Killer Instinct with them. I have no complaints. I would still be using them if it wasn't for the my weakness for cute chibi art.
