kojima will take over a team at sony japan as part of the sony japans reconcstruction by the new CEO Allan Becker

Together with Team ICO, Team Gravity, Team Cerny aka Knack and Team Kojima this will be the new powerhouse studio of Sony

Putting all jokes aside, Sony has to be at least courting Kojima following the Konami debacle.

I suspect that most of Kojima Productions would follow Kojima wherever he ends up, not just because of the abhorrent practices at that awful company, but the respect he commands in the industry.

I imagine there are a LOT of people courting Kojima right now.

And probably not just gaming companies.

Yeah, that's an inevitability, but considering his long affiliation with Playstation, they seem like the obvious choice.

He would most likely get the budget, freedom, and sane working environments that he requires, and you can bet Sony would love to be able to tout that their next big franchise is from the creator of Metal Gear Solid.

if nothing will surface between now and december ( when Kojima will be free from Konami ), i'm gonna avatar bet for an announcement at Playstation Experience 2015

back on thread

SO CLOSE!

I dunno, isn't Platinum already working on 500 other games?

  • Nier New Project
  • Scalebound
  • Transformers Devastation
  • Star Fox Zero

Two of them will be released this year (Star Fox and Transformers), Nier is still unknown and Scalebound is next year. It might be possible for a MGR2 slot :D

There are very few Japanese gaming companies who can afford Kojima. He only does business in Japanese so it rules out western developer's. The cost and time it would take to translate documents into Japanese and get a response back again translated back into English would be huge.

Back on topic.

I don't think Level 5 next game will be Ni No Kuni 2. The story is finished and it's a great once off game. Secondly Studio Ghibli have temporarily ceased all production so they won't be working on the art this time around.

@tratorn, Yeah, that could be a factor.

But I suspect any company willing to make an offer are putting assurances down on paper that they are not evil like Konami.

Couldn't care less about anything getting announced at this point besides GT7, chances seem low so keeping my expectations in check. Hoping to open Gaf up later next week to find that it's all good and the game has indeed been announced.

Mirrors Edge, UC4, GT7 and FIFA would easily keep me happy for a good year. :D

If we don't see GT7 at TGS, we'll see it at Paris.

Hahaha no. She's not even the first RPG PS Princess let alone the OG one. That'd go to the person in my avatar, Sania from Arc the Lad 2 (which originally released in

Oh... well the more you know!

Totally forgot about Arc the lad 2.

Regarding Kojima on joining Sony, I think there might be a chance of him joining. Most or some of the team silent is now Team gravity/siren in Sony Japan studios including the creator of Silent Hill, Keiichiro Toyama.

Seems like they getting along just fine with Sony. Now, that is not fair of me to say that it will necessarily equate to Kojima getting along with Sony too. But I say there's at the least a possibility.

But think about it, what if Kojima does join Sony and makes a game with Toyama himself? I don't know if they'd be in a mood to make another Stealth or horror game, but maybe something new. Maybe even cool.

Pretty sure Sony wants consistency, efficiency and quality to go hand in hand ala Guerrilla Games, Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, Sucker Punch and Allan Becker's SSM. Consistent quality output - and by that I mean big projects on 2 1/2 years production cycles without skipping a beat.

Reason why they jettisoned Allan from SSM to Studio Japan. Avoid The Last Guardians of the world, or Stig's game - a catastrophe. Studio Japan is going for the previous SSM set up in a way (2 big teams in rotation on big projects + an indie incubation/collaboration arm for Asia).

Not sure Kojima fits the bill. What could help is production being rather faster with the resources at Sony's dispossal + one single platform...that's how I can see Sony taking the risk given Kojima's ambitions and reqs.

But given Verendus post about the work going on inside Studio Japan I am pretty sure it's almost impossible for him to get a team of his own there. The current teams would be spoken for --- for quite a few years too.

I see him going elsewhere. If he lands at Nintendo or MS that would definitely create a Tsunami of salt waves but it's rather unlikely. MS will have to open a studio there... I don't see him jumping to the states.

He's one of the greatest game designers ever, i'd sure as hell hope that they could find some place for them. I mean let's not act like Sony doesn't have studios that take a long time to develop things. The last game that Sony Bend released was in 2011, unless you include that card game in 2012. Either way you're looking at a four to five year development period for their game. Possibly longer. The team working on Dreams has been working on it since 2011. PD takes three or so years for GT's usually. And Horizon has been in development since 2010.

He also wouldn't necessarily need a team within Japan Studio. PD has their own studios that aren't attached to Japan Studio.

Sure but Sony would rather not see that.

The Sony Bend example while legitimate in the context of longevity in production cycles misses the point in that they are a very small team coined to Vita support that recently made the switch to mainline consoles and it's still rather small for AAA standards. I hope that this year doesn't go by without seeing their game and I definitely hope it's not a disappointment in terms of scale and production values.

Not sure if Sony wants them as another Sucker Punch in terms of staff size. They have been hiring quite a bit and I think the kind of size Sucker Punch has is bare minimum these days for AAA titles.

Edit: (DUMB™)

I'd say that just how GT5 has seemingly created a perception that all PD games take five years, the same holds true for MGSV. Before it this was how KojiPro/Kojima release schedule looked

Metal Gear Solid - 1998 (Kojima directed)
Ghost Babel - 2000
Zone of the Enders - 2001
MGS2 - 2001 (Kojima directed)
ZoE2 - 2003
Boktai - 2003
Boktai 2 - 2004
Metal Gear Ac!d - 2004
MGS3 - 2004 (Kojima directed)
New Boktai - 2005
MGA2 - 2005
MGS Portable Ops - 2006
Lunar Knights - 2007
MGS4 - 2008 (Kojima directed)
MGS: Peace Walker - 2010 (Kojima directed)

So he and his studio were pretty damn efficient. MGSV took longer, but then again they managed to release a game that's ridiculously polished on five different platforms.

Sony definitely wants efficiency, but they want quality more than anything which is why they'll allow studios to delay games if they think it'll make them better. In the end, MGSV has a 93 Metacritic and sold more than 3m units in less than a week. It's hard to imagine that any studio wouldn't have room for something like that.

I hope we get to see what Bend is working on soon. I think a decent play for getting Kojima is getting a year exclusive for ps4, then letting it multi plat. then its exclusiveish, but without paying the real big dollars.

That's true I will be the first to confess that I don't follow Kojima much (never cared for MGS despite trying on and off to get into them) but I do read at a glance the current stigma surrounding him which might be factually wrong.

And this year's conference will definitely have a first-party presence, so I'd expect Gravity Rush New Project and the leaked Remaster, as well.

Yup I hope so, can't wait.

Y'know, I'd be honestly disappointed if Tales didn't make an appearance. The game won't be out until 2016 so it's not like they don't have plenty of time but it's been three months and TGS would be a great time to show it off. I'd at least like to see a legitimate trailer with more characters. Felt like I couldn't escape from Zestiria. >_<

Yeah, I'd like to see a new trailer. I don't think it's impossible since the game was already announced at their own event.

Dark Cloud 3 might be out of our reach, but for the love of god can we please get remasters of Dark Cloud 1 & 2?!? It seems like such a no brainer after all the other remasters last gen and current gen.

Dark Cloud 1 & 2 are so far away in my mind that they'd feel like legit new games if graphics were upgraded a bit.

I played through Rogue Galaxy very recently for the first time and the DC nostalgic elements were a real treat.

Well as far as chances for a remaster on any of the 2 dark cloud games. Sony japan did renew the Dark Chroniclet (known as Dark cloud 2 in the US) before E3 2013.

So there's that...

Yeah, I'd like to see a new trailer. I don't think it's impossible since the game was already announced at their own event.

With Berseria I wonder if they're keeping quiet about it to not risk a big backlash like with Zestiria, or they've decided to rework/add certain things...

Ni No Kuni 2 has a bigger chance of happening but what I would like to see at TGS is another partnership between SCEJ and Level-5 announcing games like Rogue Galaxy 2, Dark Cloud 3 and more new IPs. But that is a dream that won't be fulfilled

I dunno Verendus said there are 2 Level 5 exclusives. One in house and one is a collaboration type title.

So hope is there.

I'm thinking the In-House one could be Ni No Kuni 2 with Studio Ghibli or something similar. Maybe a Yukai Watch port. While the collaboration could be another of a popular cult classic.

We live in a world where FFVII Remake, Shenmue 3, TLG, Nier 2, Star Ocean 5, and a good looking Star Wars film actually exist so anything is possible in my eyes.

Would a Kojima to SCE deal be announced at TGS?

Not possible, Kojima right now should be under forced silence because of his contractual obbligations with Konami.
And if his contract with Konami doesn't formally expires (and that is supposed to happen at the end of the year) he can't even start working officially for an other company.
So the argument about what Kojima is doing next is totally premature, he will probably set up an independent studio with other people from Kojima Production just to begin with, then they will come up with a concept for a new IP and big publishers including platform holders will start courting him to publish his next game.
I doubt we'll know anything about it before next E3.

Math is making my posts look dumb.

Mainline games since first PS3 game shipped.

Naughty Dog: average 2 years ~ 1 month per game. 4 games shipped since Uncharted Drake's Deception. (Uncharted 2 (1 yr, 11 months), Uncharted 3 (2 years), The Last of US (1 year, 7 months), Uncharted 4 (2 years 9 months) - barring a delay.)

Staff: 270 and growing...

Guerrila Games: average 2 years 4-5 months ish per game since Killzone 2. 2 games shipped. (Killzone 3 (2 years), Killzone Shadowfall (2 years, 9 months).

Lets say they ship Horizon in Sept. 2016 (2 yrs, 10 months), Oct, (2 yrs, 11 months), Nov, (3 years).

Bumps average to about 2 yrs 8-10 months per game.

Staff: 270 and growing...

Polyphony Digital: average 3 years 1 month since GT5. From GT5 to GT6, 3 years 1 month.

Lets say they ship GT6 in Sept. 2016 (2 yrs, 9 months), Oct, (2 yrs, 10 months), Nov, (2 years 11 months)

Brings the average down a bit to around 3 years per.

Staff: 140 and growing.

San Diego: 1 year average.

MLB: The Show infinitum...

Staff: 200+ and growing..

Media Molecule: 2 years 2 months from LBP 1 to LBP 2.

Dreams releases in 2016 - release date could be any date really - probably avoid October-December. Pretty sure it's not going to be Q1/2016 either, it's already stacked for Sony.

Didn't count Tearaway on Vita but from LBP 2 to Tearaway - 2 years, 10 months bumping average by about 4 months...

Staff: 50+...

Sucker Punch: average 2 yrs, 5 months since first Infamous. (Infamous 2 (2 years, 1 month), Infamous Second Son (2 years, 9 months).

Staff: Around <100 w/ layoffs, 120 before. Growing again..

Studio Japan (400+ staff) had a lot of small games during the PS3 era and tons of collabs. They started to get back into the game with Puppeteer and Knack and will show how "back" they're in 2 days. London is a Singstar factory with move support and portable games support. Cambridge fell off a cliff after the PS2 (Poor MediEvil), supporting Sony's portables...at least we got Mercenary. Hopefully they have something else besides Rigs, same for London. As for Bend, we'll know soon. SSM is well, too over the place + that gap from Stig's game hurts.

That Level 5 game collab has a good chance of being White Knight Chronicles III/Rogue Galaxy 2/ Dark Cloud 3.

I was just thinking how sceja can even top last year's conference
Then I looked up the synopsis on it and remembered truly how wretched it was
Holy shit was it awful
The persona dragon quest combo really saved it from being a total disaster

That Level 5 game collab has a good chance of being White Knight Chronicles III.

The world needs another wkc game as much as it does another lightning one

So exciting! I tuned into the livestream of the past two SCEJA conferences, but this time I'll be catching up on sleep and reading about the reveals in the morning. Excited to see what Square Enix, Bandai Namco, SEGA and Koei Tecmo bring.

But this is the one that will truly pay off :)

Too late for me to watch live. I couldn't stand the translation stuff the last couple of times either so I'll just check the gaf thread in the morning.

2 days left!

I will watch it at work on my iPhone... it will be 10 AM here.

Supper excited and I have good amount of hope in this conference and this TGS overall.

I am now convinced that this will be a great conference. You'll regret not watching it live!

Didn't studio Japan and Clap Handz announced hot shots golf 7 last tgs? They've been pretty hush hush about it lately. We might see more info on it this year.

And maybe we might see at least one new game from studio japan.
Im reall hoping rumors are correct that it will be a combo of multiple hot shots games ie. tennis, golf, etc.
