Miller starts losing his lust for revenge once he starts working on production of the worlds tastiest burger.

only to have it resurface when the Sneak King steals his burger which forces him to abandon his burger dream and join foxhound

the deepest lore

I'm at work so I can't watch that, but I'm pretty sure half of that was retconned, Solid Snake was basically doing The Patriots' bidding.

So they should've just let Zanzibarland and Metal Gear stand there and continue their endless warfare while also keeping nukes there?

I think you're kind of thinking this was a simple black vs. white thing and that everything that was against the Patriots was defiintely good.

Big Boss is building Outer Haven during the events of this game and still runs it from the outside in MG1 with Venom as a pawn. MG2 is even worse when he's not even hiding. If anything, the whole Venom stuff is worse because we don't see Big Boss's corruption and downfall.

The problem is that nothing that actually happens in the games themselves (MG1 & MG2) is canon anymore since everything in those games was retconned, so everything canon in those games we get from other games. And TPP made it look like Phantom Big Boss is the real villain (probably pissed because his real identity was taken?), while Big Boss was working with Ocelot in the shadows to take down The Patriots.

Where did you get this idea from? The only massive "retcon" is that Big Boss told Snake that he was his dad somewhere, everything else is 100% in.

Sigh...

So for some reason, Miller turns on Big Boss and tries to help Foxhound, but Liquid kills him and assumes his place in MGS. Why and when this happens, we don't know, and why does Liquid recruit or trust Ocelot?

Eli runs off with a Metal Gear, but we don't know what happens to that Metal Gear, or why Liquid waits more than a decade to do anything.

Psycho Mantis remains an enigma. That's fine.

Skull face is there. For reasons. I dunno. No one cares about him. lol

For some reason, Code Talker's parasites became nano machines, even though they are purely biological, and I guess we should ignore the racism of having native americans be magical....

Does Miller put mustard on a hamburger? If so, fuck him. Does he put sugar tomato puree on a hamburger? If so, fuck him.

Now, I'm probably forgetting MG lore.

I... I need a FAQ.

Nothing from MG1 and 2 was really explicitly or implicitly retconned aside from some timeline inconsistencies (like the entire world dismantling its nuclear supply, lol). I'm not sure what you think suggests that. If anything MGSV goes out of its way to make some direct references to those games at the end.

Big Boss was still a warmonger. Here's his final speech transcribed:

Snake: Big Boss... you're alive?!

Big Boss: Snake... Welcome to Zanzibar Land... I knew you'd come back to me.

Snake: I came to get rid of the nightmares I've been having for the past three years.

Big Boss: The nightmares? They never go away, Snake. Once you've been on the battlefield, tasted the exhilaration, the tension... it all becomes part of you. Once you've awakened the warrior within... it never sleeps again. You crave even bigger tensions, ever bigger thrills. As a mercenary, I'd think you would have realized that by now. You care nothing for power, or money, or even sex. The only thing that satisfies your cravings... is WAR! All I've done is give you a place for it. I've given you a reason to live.

Snake: I would never have made you for such a hypocrite, Big Boss...

Big Boss: You saw those children, didn't you? Every one is a victim of a war somewhere of the world. And they'll make fine soldiers in the next war. Start a war, for its flames, create victims... Then save them, train them... And feed them back onto the battlefield. It's a perfectly logical system. In this world of ours, conflict never ends. And neither does our purpose... our raison d'etre.

Snake: So there's plenty of job opportunities... Is that what you're trying to say?

Big Boss: On the battlefield, you and I are valuable commodities. But back "home", we're nothing but dead weight. If we're lucky, we might get the attention of some two-bit journalist from a cheap tabloid. You and I are doomed to remain here until we die like dogs on the battlefield.

Snake: ...I've only got one fight left. To free myself from your grip, to rid myself of these nightmares... Big Boss, I will defeat you!

Big Boss: It doesn't matter who wins here. Our fight will continue. The loser will be liberated from the battlefield, and the survivor will live out the rest of his days as a soldier.

Snake: It doesn't have to be that way. I'm not like you. I love life!

Big Boss: Very well, Snake. I'll release you from your suffering. As your former commander, I'll do you one last favor... and put you out of your misery.

Snake: I don't need any more favors from you!

Big Boss: Really?... And just how do you expect to beat me in your condition? With no weapon?

Snake: Never give up. Fight until the end. Always believe you will succeed, even when the odds are against you. ...Those are your words.

Big Boss: Even I make mistakes from time to time. Snake! This will be our final battle... Let's end this once and for all!
He may have been made into a more sympathetic villain via prequels, but he was the bad guy for sure by the end.

Here's the real question: which of Millers prototypes do you think you would find the tastiest? I'm going with the Lamburger.

That is a pretty big retcon, I wouldn't call it "only", since it's basically one of the main themes for the franchise.

Thinking too hard about Metal Gear lore and trying to make sense of it is what got us MGS4.

There's a nugget of gold in MGS4, and that's the Meryll/Snake early scenes where she still has feelings for him. They are amazing, but too bad Snake/Kojima shits on them like Johnny.

That, to me, is the biggest sin of Metal Gear Solid 4. Grrrr.

guys MGS references shit in MG1 and 2

like in MG2 it says there are no nukes

and so in MGS Solid says "I thought there weren't any more nukes anymore"

and someone, not sure, says something like "lol snake, there was no known nukes, but many nations continued to build them in secret"

it may be a 'retcon' but it kept things consistent

Can Old Snake even get it up?

Mgs1 literally contains summaries of mg1 and 2 with accurate descriptions of what happened in each game.

I'm sure there is some way to inject nanomachines into your cock that not only gets it rock hard when needed to but raises your sperm count by a million. what this means is that even with Solid Snake being sterile, nanomachines could give his boys the boost they needed

failing that... parasites, son

That's the thing though, he was "playing" his Phantom to prevent The Patriots from suspecting him, he can't act differently. That's what I got from TPP's ending anyway.

So you'd inject the nanomachines...they'd go into your ballz...you'd also receive a rock hard nanocock(lol)...and then you'd proceed to jiggum the nanomachines wherever your heart desires?

Did I get that right?

I think you're kind of thinking this was a simple black vs. white thing and that everything that was against the Patriots was defiintely good.

I was always under the impression that Big Boss's military nation was both a weapon and an endgame. Sure he was fighting to overthrow the Patriots, but only so he could create his own "soldier's paradise" world.

It's been a while since I've played MGS1, but I'm pretty sure Liquid's "war against the Patriots" was similar to Big Boss's. He wanted the whole world to be in a state of constant war where soldiers could reign supreme.

Solidus was interesting because his goal in defeating the Patriots was to restore the United States to its founding principles. He did a lot of nasty things along the way, but he chose to fight for "freedom, civil right, and opportunities" instead of global warfare.

Solid Snake arguably did the right thing by ending these "rebellions" (well, maybe not Solidus depending on your moral stance).

Eli runs off with a Metal Gear, but we don't know what happens to that Metal Gear, or why Liquid waits more than a decade to do anything.

Oh no, we know exactly what happened. He ran off to a place in Africa to set up an even bigger Lord of the Flies reference, then he piloted Metal Gear to kill Cipher guys that are still around, and then Venom shot Metal Gear and broke it in half in concept art. Then he hit his head and hallucinated so that he couldn't see red, so he shot Eli, who was wearing a red hazmat suit inconveniently. Venom screams NOOOOOOOOOOO until it turns out that Eli had a vest on so he's fine, but Eli's been infected with the parasite so we'll have to napalm him and the whole island anyway.

Right after DD leaves with Metal Gear's broken pieces, Mantis magicks the parasites out of Eli's throat and they float away Poochie-style to escape the napalm and Eli makes an MGS1 reference while a picture of NYC is shown for some reason

I'm still very puzzled regarding the doors in mother base.

Like many are just decorations but there are some that seems that would be accessible at some point but never are.

Wonder why they are there.

To keep you up late at night. Kojima gets off knowing thousands are losing sleep over his games.

God, I love your Metal Gear synopsizes. They are a nation treasure.

so yeah why was the picture of nyc in there
liquid is just an arm in mgs2 and mantis is dead by then

I finally understand why Konami wanted $40 for Ground Zeroes. They didn't look at at Ground Zeroes' content and decide it was worth $40, they looked at The Phantom Pain's content for $60 and worked backwards.

Well technically, Liquid was a whole body and Mantis was very much alive at the time the towers were there.

MGS2 takes place in 2007 and all.

re: read and white colorblindness
that is way too convenient

I hate that stuff was cut, but that plot point could have only bothered me.

You know that video showing how many times "nanomachines" is repeated during MGS4?

It would be quite interesting to see a version of such video showing how many times "Parasites", "Wolbachia" and "copulate/copulation" are said in MGSV. I would bet any of those words would more than duplicate the "nanomachines" mentioning.

Uh, for all it's flaws TPP is a huge game, much more than Ground Zeroes or any other MGS game for that matter.

the fact that little kid liquid and little kid mantis became weird sorta friends and they met big boss and ocelot and master miller and big boss and otacon's dad is still so hilarious

it's like that plinkett review of revenge of the sith where he's amazed that lucas didn't put in a scene where little kid han solo meets baby luke and leia
