You can say the same thing about the codec conversations in the previous games (I find a lot of them boring). It really depends on if you like the language concept or not. I really like it.

Kojima's always been poor at writing expository dialogue, but in previous games the repetition was usually within the framework of the main story, not additional information sources that only those invested in the story will seek out. By sidelining so much of the story to these optional tapes, it feels like they got caught playing both sides. I lost count of how many times someone felt the need to repeat that "THE WOLBACHIA TURN ALL THE PARASITES TO FEMALE, AND FEMALES CANNOT COPULATE". Okay okay I get it, I'm invested in this story enough to not forget what you've said over and over, now is there anything actually new in here? Couple that with the possibility of weird pacing issues, where you'll listen to a tape or see an optional cutscene, and then a main story plotline immediately repeats, or acts in contradiction with what you just witnessed, and it makes for an even more frustrating experience than hearing Snake repeat "METAL GEAR?" for the 40th time.

The stupidest retcon has to be Zero being infected by parasites and becoming a vegetable in the 80's.

This dude right here
latest

is over 105 years old. Him being a vegetable makes perfect sense at that age. Did Kojima really think we had a problem with believing that?

Either that or The Cobra unit having parasites all along. Literally nanomachines all over again.

Wait so Skullface and Quiet were both horribly burned and only live thanks to the magic parasites right?

So why does he look monsterous and she look like a supermodel?

Still mad about the ending.

But I am getting more mad thinking about how cheap Mission 46 was. They didn't even remove the Tutorial prompts. What a lazy shitass "final" Mission for the MGS-Series was that??
Not even small details changed (except the mirror face of course), you know, something you would expect of Kojima.....

Just bad, so bad.

"Big Boss" was like "I have nothing to say", like, 90% of the game.

Which made me hate the twist even more. I don't really care for VS, I don't like him or hate him he's just there. Best thing about this game it shows just how much SS was the real Boss of this franchise

I respect your opinion, but I don't agree. I wanted to know about the parasites because I wanted to know how they infected my men and the fact that Skull Face wanted to use the English strain to get his revenge made me invested. I really liked how Kojima told the story in MGS V, you have the the usual cut scenes and tapes that flesh out the story more. It made me feel like I'm putting the pieces together to get the full picture and made the story more mysterious. For example, after going to Africa and destroying the oil tanker, while doing missions I started hearing the African soldiers blaming Big Boss for the spread of the infection and I was like " What the hell are they talking about? " but when I listened to the tape that explains the situation, I was shocked. I really like that.

I just want to say. I think Kojima doesn't care for MG games anymore since after MGS3. I really hope he will do something with Sony and they will give him freedom and money for his new project.

Not just this, but the trailers promised taboos, revenge and men becoming demon. None of that we really got with this game.

"It's a man's thirst for revenge that drives the times", Volgin is a demon (want revenge), Skull Face too and even Venom. Venom and Miller rebuilding motherbase to get their revenge on XOF and Skull Face.

Yeah, they made you believe that this would be a MGS game with actual cutscenes every hour.

I don't mind having fewer cutscenes than previous MGS games. The emphasis was put on actual gameplay, and I'm glad about this.

But this doesn't change the fact that some were useless, although well made.

What actual taboos were in this game?

Child soldiers? Torture?
Neither of which were very impactful or really broke/explored any taboos.

Holy shit @ that Nuke-free world cutscene. Makes you wonder what other cutscenes might be buried in the files.

Maybe there's one where you're the only FOB left because you nuked them all. Gotta have all those with realistic unlock conditions.

I mean, you can tell at the end of the video that it is an actually unlocked cutscene if there's ever no nukes left on your format. It's bizarre, you even get heroism for it, but it'll never happen.

Got a link?

I don't know what happened.

Ground Zeroes made it look like Kojima was serious about it, and then PP comes out and it's like he lost his balls. All that taboo stuff missing is the one area I'll believe Konami might have really interfered with.

But honestly I'm finding it increasingly hard to give Kojima the benefit of the doubt anymore.

The taboo for me is: When a country occupy another country they force them to use another language and that change the individual behavior similar to Skull Face's story.
Also, Zero's plan to rule the world under one entity the USA before he created the patriots system forced many countries to be Americanized. This is happening in real life now.

Edit: Also when you lose something because of someone, vengeance drives you and nothing else.

I listen to the tapes, but you shouldn't have to find answers by going through the tapes.

The alternative is mandatory cutscenes that tons of people hate instead, or just no story elements at all that can be sideshadowed, explained or explored further in any way.

What answers are you looking for that aren't more or less inferred? You get the gist of everything as it happens, and if for some reason you really want more explanation and claims of plausibility it's there.

So much taboo, wow I am shocked. Kojima truly got me in the guts.. whoooooooo

Edit: Kojima failed to deliver on every point, story wise. I liked Huey, that's about it. Huey is a demon, but everyone else is jesus, saving kids and stuff.

What was up with that trailer line "A weapon to surpass Metal Gear..." Kaz was talking about Sahelanthropus right? But that's a Metal Gear....
