Even more damning is that Skullface was helping out during MGS3. Meaning Big Boss Legend is just that, A legend.

This bothers me so goddamn much. Why does Kojima have to undermine MGS3 every single chance he gets? First he decides to ruin The Boss in PW and give Snake weird amnesia where he doesn't seem to remember what The Boss did. Now, turns out that the Cobras were all parasite soldiers and Naked Snake didn't actually complete the mission alone. He's a nothing.

It's okay though, PW, GZ, and TPP are all non canon spin offs. Alternate realities. Reboots.

Phantom Medic Boss was supposed to represent us in the game, and I'd say it was perfectly executed. He didn't have any emotional reaction to anything going on in the game, and neither did I!

Disagree. I had a lot of feelings when I saw Kojima was going to waste another hour of my life forcing me to crawl through that garbage-ass prologue a second time.

I think Peace Walker screwed that up first. Shagohod makes sense, the PW parts can fly and are huge and are AI controlled and all that crazy shit. Sahalentrhopus was never meant to be used but it's still fully armed and looks/is weaponized in such a way that it looks like it should be in Rising.

The canon of the tech levels in MGS was just thrown into wack by PW and the iDroid is even worse.

Yeah true PW completely stretched it on the technological front but was just pulled back enough that i could believe it. But MgSV completely takes the cake. All the tech, sahelanthropus specifically, looks like something out of otacons Japanese animes.

Don't forget the iDroid, Cyphers (flying security cameras which weren't supposed to appear until the events of MGS2) and Phantom Cigar (e-cigarettes in the 80s, remember those?) The tech just got out of hand in PW and MGSV.

Yeah phantom cigar is so odd to me. Os there some dumb bullshit like 'the fumes make time go quicker for fake snake'

Instead of V snake i will now refer to him as fake snake.

E-Cigs were invented in the 60s.

Anyway, you guys are missing the point with ST84. It's useless without Mantis. The thing literally doesn't work. It's a showpiece.
Exactly, Sahelanthropus didn't work, it barely stood on its own two legs, it wasn't anywhere near complete according to Huey. It was Mantis who controlled it using telekinesis.

The trailers really gave the impression that's the game would be like, especially the E3 2014 trailer. Considering MG1 where Big Boss is suddenly evil, it would have made a lot of sense.
Evil in MGS means jackshit. Evil is definitely the wrong word considering what we know about outer heaven and zanzibar

I think the environment you encounter a boss in is a little more important than that, as well as the actual fight itself, over little details that don't really matter, but okay, I guess.

Dude don't be passive aggressive. You can't say "he's just as powerful!" and then get snippy when I point out, no, he's not.

3 > 1 > 4 > 2 > PW > PO > V

When it comes to bosses from a gameplay perspective. So yes, the bosses in 4 were pretty badass.

Yeah I agree with that rating. I think 3 and 1 had the only boss fights I really enjoyed. Laughing Octopus in 4 was cool though, and Rex vs Ray + Solid vs Liquid in 4 were mechanically kind of wack but executed pretty well

Tell me those are dupe subtitles in the Shinkawa interview, 'cause i can't even tell anymore.

Make sense though, Kojima was a big fan of both Mad Max and Drive, so he probably thought he should give it a go too.

I'd go 3 > 1 > 2 > 4 > PW > PO > V

But then in measure of quality in general and not just series wise.

Great: 3, 1
Good: 2
Bad: 4
Oh God Why are These In Here: PW, PO
That counts as a boss fight?: V

Badass is definitely not a word I'd associate with any part of MGS4, except perhaps the REX/RAY fight and the Raiden/Vamp fight.

Did you stop at Act 3?

Oh man, I wish. If I had known how steep the cliff is that that game drives off after Act 2...

Is there a source on this?

The phrasing is almost exactly as the anecdote about Kojima wanting diarrhea in MGS2, and then cutting Snake's dialogue without changing the way other characters interact with him sounds like something herculean at the 11th hour.

I would probably switch 4 and 2 because I really like Fatman, Vamp, and the heliport fights. I didn't like any of the Beauties fights, but the Rex/Ray battle was great. The more I think about it, the more I dislike the Ocelot fist fight.

I just made this in photoshop because I am extremely bored and it's sunday.

Hmmm, I'm not really too fond of Vamp, Fatman or Fortune but the Harrier, Solidus and army of Rays fights are cool. Olga is alright. Still think I prefer 4's bosses overall but they aren't close to 3 or 1.

Eh 4 bosses are good IMO except for raging raven or whatever. Just for the vamp, metal gear boss fight and end fight, mgs4 bosses are redemmed.

Real question os though

where does rising revengeance fit into the list of bosses hmm

Like most of MGS4, the Ocelot fist fight was a great play on nostalgia and kinda terrible in every other sense. I'd love to play a version of MGS4 that wasn't meant to be the end of Solid Snake's story. One that didn't feel like it had to reference every event of the previous games and rely entirely on nostalgia hold it up.

That is a good question. I'd probably put it near the top, there were some fantastic bosses in that game.

Rising is number 1. He suplexes a Metal Gear.

I really liked the AIs in PW. It's the tanks and choppers shit that I hated there.

Sahelanthrepous doesn't even really respond to "breaking" his parts, he's just a giant Rocket-sponge.

The AIs on the other hand were very reactive. If you focus on damaging a certain part, eventually attacks that utilize it would no longer be useable.

In V they have one boss like that, and they couldn't even get shit they got right in their last game v_v

I don't blame you, it's a better game and it's going to get even bigger.

I just couldn't picture myself ever wanting to grind through this game again. That's actually really sad to me, that the longest and most wide open Metal Gear is the one that's the least replayable.

I just listened to all 50 tracks on the OST, and this shit is really extremely good, and it's rapidly becoming my favourite metal gear ost, even if it's missing the iconic metal gear theme.
Heck even the Metal Gear Online track is dope.

3 > Rising > 1 for me. Character action as a genre naturally excels at boss fights but I am more fond of 3's and compared to some of platinum's other games in their portfolio and other series like DMC or Ninja Gaiden Rising's bosses are good, but not cream of the crop.

PW did a few things that I'm disappointed V didn't carry on. In particular, Co-op. What didn't work that well in Peace Walker outside of boss fights would have fit perfectly into V's more wide open levels akin to Far Cry 4's fantastic co-op.

Wait, I just found out that you can do stuff in the game to make Venom's horn bigger.

The following is a list of actions the players can perform to increase their Demon Points:

+20 - Fail the fulton extraction of an animal
+20 - Kill an animal
+30 - Critically wound an enemy soldier
+40 - Kill an animal with fire damage
+60 - Fail the fulton extraction of an enemy soldier

+60 - Lose a staff member held hostage by aborting mission 22 (+60 each)
+75 - Destroy D-Walker
+90 - Kill a Diamond Dog staff member held hostage
