I always liked how she used her giant tits to make Snake forget that she never knew the passphrase.

Times like this I like to whip this out

Can someone let me know if I've done all the story stuff?

I've finished mission 46 and I've seen all the Paz stuff (that last tape was great).

I'm using the butterfly emblem so I know I have like a mission and side op with story for Quiet but I want to wait so I can use her on back missions.

Other than that anything I'm missing?

I think it's fantastic how the Boss still had a definite feminine side. So many stories that have tough female soldiers simply don't take gender into account at all and make them act like men with boobs. Eva is a great character as well. That's what is so frustrating about the B&B squad and Quiet, they feel like they were designed by someone completely different. I gave Kojima the benefit of doubt on Quiet because he made MGS3 and was sorely let down.

Does anybody know the time-frame for how long the story in MGSV takes place? From when Venom wakes up in the hospital to him defeating Eli. I wanna say a few weeks, but then you got shit like D-Dog who grows from a pup into a hound and stuff.

Fully agree, Kojima has flashes of smarts filled with tons of stuff a kid going through puberty comes up with.

I wont go into this too much as it's a very divisive area of discussion. But I will say that overt sexual themes and sexuality being included in media simply for the sake of being sexy is not uncommon or seen as weird in Japan and the more liberal parts of europe.

Is it dumb? sure, but no more dumb than a lot of this series - like the man who shoots bees, or the vampire man.

The main issue here is the whole fact that gaming has a stigma it has very much earned of being a boys only club, with shitheads online using sex based insults to females in online games. That combined with the US' negative approach to sexuality and this is a complicated topic to discuss.

Let me say, I like titillation and sexual elements in my media, i consider it a part of being human.

I will also say that I would 100% take issue with sexual moments being added in say, The Last Of Us or say Bioshock Infinite as they would be so far out of place that they actually would detract from what the game was going for.

However, In the ridiculous side-show that is metal gear? I simply don't see the issue. This series goes off in so many different directions and is so hard to take serious that i don't mind sexyness being added for the sake of sexyness.

Did I enjoy having Big boss and Kaz wrestle in a pair of speedos on the beach in PW? I did.

If you think that makes me a bad person then I'm not sure what to tell you.

Just finished the Paz "quest".

I should not have done this straight after Mission 46, it's like being kicked in the balls twice. There are no words for how bad all of this is.

yup, mission 45, go do some side ops

It sounded like it to me. That 180 was odd to me, unless I misheard.
This:
They were recording it to send to their client. It was an act to make it seem like they assassinated the children so the warlord would pay them and stop pursuing the kids.
Miller reacts in the moment but realizes what Venom is telling him. They both mutually but silently decide to record the gunfire and gasps on tape as "proof" to their client. They get paid, children live.

this is a great post, but I think everyone is still super salty we didn't get to play as the real Big Boss. at least that's how i feel :(
Nah i'm fine with that to be honest. My main issue with the game is the wasted potential of the story and the characters. It could have been so, so much more...

Paz being alive was a load of horseshit
Thankfuly she is gone

I'm sad that Paz was the only allucination part in the game though, Venom has shrapnel in his head, and yet, only Paz triggered something in him.

Guilt is a hell of a drug

Kojima's name had three amazing games with really great plots and characters.

Then he went along and had MGS4 which was a character assassination on every MGS character, but I forgave him because people wanted answers and that was going to happen when you try to deal with MGS2 literally.

Then he made Peace Walker and I gave him a break because it was a mobile game, even if the story was really bad I couldn't fault the level design.

Then MGSV came out and the gameplay is amazing but once again the story is really bad with horribly stale characters and almost zero character arc in anyone or even a story arc that's paced properly.

Three strikes, Kojima is out in my eyes.

To be fair, every mgs game has some dumb ass stuff in it. It's not like any are masterpieces in writing.

I liked it, but the hallucination stuff in this game is so weird. Paz was a hallucination, but a supernatural unit called the Skulls summoning guns out of their palms and Volgin turning into fire zombie are totally legit. I guess if the entire first Paz scene with Miller and Ocelot present was V hallucinating, any other scene could be as well.

He feels guilty about something Big Boss did.

You win the internet for me today buddy. I'm all for feminism and such, but you basically laid it out better than I ever could. You shouldn't feel bad about liking titillation in games, however acknowledging that it's not fair or equal to women, and analyzing why is important. That's the whole point. Anyone who shames people for enjoying that kind of thing in a game is sex-shaming and that's an entirely different issue. Bayonetta for instance is a very divisive topic amongst feminist gamers. She's powerful, and cocky, but her sexuality is how she taunts her enemies - thus some people think she's a gross sexualization of character. It's tacky like you said, but not morally wrong.

It could have been cool seeing random flashes of his old life.

Actually it makes sense for him to feel guilt over the Paz stuff. He was the medic. He missed the second bomb and feels bad for that so comes up with a way for him to actually get the bomb by having his dream version of BB point it out.

Poor Medic, even in a dream fantasy he isn't the one that actually saves someone, it's Big Boss with his psychic sense that know there is another bomb.

I feel like they wasted the whole hallucinations thing. Like I originally thought the Man on Fire was a hallucination of The Fury (Like Venom snake can't entirely remember The Fury or something).

I think it would have been interesting to have (during the ashes scene) all the people he killed replace the soldiers on the quarantine platform.

Just because it was told poorly, which was possibly out of Kojia's hands due to working conditions

I'm mostly in agreement with your post, and I even think the whole body double thing could make for a fantastic story if it was properly explored throughout the game, so basically keep all the concepts, but completely rework the narrative, but this point in particular I find hard to support. Publishers are usually shitty, Konami even more so, so it's easy to see them as the bad guys, but I find it really hard to believe Kojima wasn't more at fault on this.

Maybe he couldn't do anything about having more cutscenes and in-game storytelling, but when you have shit like most of Quiet's cutscenes, you can't help but question the way he handled his resources, however limited they might be. Even the game feeling incomplete, that's more likely to be Konami's fault, but still, how many years into development were they? Can you really blame Konami for wanting to stop spending money on the game and wanting to actually sell the product they were funding in order to sell? Especially when they knew it would be acclaimed anyway. Feels more like KojiPro's fault for not being able to meet reasonable enough deadlines. Maybe there were severe development troubles, who knows.

Even if we do blame Konami completely on the lack of more stuff, there's no one else but KojiPro to blame for the lack of quality in the stuff that was actually in.

It could have been cool seeing random flashes of his old life.

Also something like that Liquid thing in Episode 51, but without the HAHA HE'S ACTUALLY FINE bit. If they were taking away Quiet from us anyway, might as well make you kill her in a hallucination. And just like you can keep Quiet through some obtuse method, you could just not kill her after you know she's a hallucination on your second playthrough (that would require an actual NG+ mode though).

There's definitely a finished character arc in this game: Huey.

His is fully realized and it's probably the best part of the game's story. You're supposed to feel like you trust Huey at first but then you can't believe the kind of person he's become the more he lies and lies to the player. And it just drives a deeper connection if you've played PW where Huey is genuinely good or even MGS1/2 where the same voice is used for someone who is actually good (Hal/Otacon).

It's a well done character arc in a sea of unresolved plot threads after its wrapped up.

Oh and I guess you could count Paz's another character arc completed (even if she's "just a phantom" it's a fairly interesting arc and is trying to again connect the player to the game's story outside of just a viewing experience).

I thought he didn't remember the fact that he was a medic.

edit: wait never mind

This game is so disappointing and so fun in equal spades its baffling. Its like a cake filled with shit; pretty to look at but useless in every other regard. All the time you play thinking "this is when its going to get interesting, this is when the real boss fights come in" and then it actually ends. Damn Kojima, you had me by the balls with that gameplay but you didn't do anything with it.

Lol, no.

I love MGS2 but masterpiece in writing? It's not.

Script wise? Nah, but the meta commentary and overall narrative structure is a fucking masterpiece when looked as a whole in the marketing campaign.

Game is a stroke of genius when looking at it beyond the game itself, and even in the game the plot works and really makes sense in context of it's goal.

It's an AI. It's not meant to sound wrong and disjointed. Notice how the Raiden dialogue is natural while Rose is talking complete garbage?

If you think it's bad explain why, but simply saying "it's shit" got old 15 years ago.

I thought you liked MGS2...?!!

So he hallucinated Paz, Ocelot AND Miller, went into that [apparantly empty] infirmary room 10 times and just stared at a wall?

This is beyond bad, truly. The concept is okay [I guess], but the pay-off is horrendous. Are the Paz tapes a hallucination? Is he hallucinating tape 5?

Just... what the hell.

MGS2 is terrible.

I'm rewatching MGS2 cutscenes and codec calls and they have such better and engaging writing than anything in MGSV. The intro alone with the banter between Solid Snake and Otacon is so good. They actually interact with one another and have good chemistry.

Snake: "Russians?"
Otacon: "Are you sure?"
Snake: "No marine barber touched that head of hair."

And after getting over the initial "WTF is going on?" from playing the game for the first time. Hearing explanations of who the Patriots are is super interesting. The entire atmosphere of MGS2 is superb and creates a feeling of surrealism and paranoia. Not knowing who to trust or even who is real.
