I've got my umbrella primed for a torrent of boiled piss, as I'm about to suggest Hideo Kojima is less than perfect. How could you argue otherwise, though, when you see Quiet and unveil the "secret reason" for her total ballbag visual design?

So join me as we explain why the whole Quiet thing in Metal Gear Solid V is total bollock-chunder! Afterwards, I plan to drink. Drink to forget.

Link to the video!

Will def. watch this when I get home, but for anyone who wants to bring up Fortune from MGS2, keep in mind that you're talking about Metal Gear Solid 2 here.

She's an embarrassing character to have in the game, but she's my favorite buddy for actually going out on missions.

The Ocelot model swap of him dancing with Snake in the rain is what that cutscene deserved.

Glad to see so many people find her design irritating and unnecessary. Looking forward to watching this one.

If it would only be the design, it would be an improvement to what it currently is. She's straight up posing for the player in multiple cutscenes and in the ACC like a striptease dancer.

Worst part is, it ain't even the design for me. It's the directing and the all the stupid poses she does.
For me its both

All this insane ass tech couldnt give her some speciality suit that helps her breathe mean while a few decades later mgr is happening

Yep. It's the design, it's the posing and it's Kojima's juvenile learing camera direction. It's as if the game is designed for the prepubescent children of gaming. Kojima's direction around women lacks any elegance, class, or style.

Jim, the Quiet horse is beaten to a bloody pulp and there's nothing left. You're extremely late to the party.

I feel like this is going to be brought up a lot more in the future, actually. Especially as more people LTTP play and get to the game and see some of the cringey as hell scenes around her.

In MGS5 you mean right?
Cuz I think it's generally WELL RECieved how he handled Eva and The Boss in MGS3.

I hadn't paid much attention to any MGSV stuff with Quiet in it, but holy shit all the posing! And the stretching in the rain! Jesus Christ, that's egregious. God forbid the female face of the game be a positive role model.

Granted, I guess we all know why she got marketed so heavily now. How disgusting.

Kojima's storytelling capabilities went straight down the toilet on almost all fronts in this game. Quiet is just a highlight on that front and how her unnecessary sexualization takes away from her characterization.

I take it Jim doesn't want to risk going deeper and have an ep. about female character designs and presentation in some other Japanese developed games?

That comment was specific to MGS5, but I felt the same way about MGS3, but I'd agree that for the most part he thankfully let's the boss just be a normal character without the learing, posing and other stupidity

Yeah, the whole Quiet's aspect explaination is bollocks. They simply wanted to show a sexy character, that's all. The plot itself rebuts that explaination later on in the game... shameless.

So apart from being nearly naked and putting on sexy poses here and there, what's the problem here again? What are we supposed to be angry about?

The obvious objectification of women while men are actual characters? Is it that hard to understand? It's a discussion that has been going on for decades. Welcome to the modern world.

She isn't a real character, she is there for you to be looked at and aroused by.

He's got a point though, and it could probably do with more discussion.

The question I want to know is, is overtly objectifying women in games (as opposed to trying to dress it up in some ridiculous narrative), any better?

The fact that Kojima pretended that the reason for this was some higher narrative reason. However when said narrative reason for the pervy nature of her characters treatment is held up to both basic logic and even Metal Gear Solid Logic, it falls apart and is clear that Kojima just wanted a sexy character for players to oggle at.

No one is, because in the end everyone was so right. It was quite obvious she is nothing more than wank material.
I know. I remember during the original reveal people defended Kojima.

Kojima is a massive perve and wears that on his sleeve.

Well at the very least its honest, and relatively less insulting to players who try to engage with the story

At least when it's overt you know what you're getting into. No one is gonna pick up DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball and be shocked at what they find. Someone who hates objectification could buy a game that hides it and feel like they were cheated/tricked. They spent their money on a product that, had they known the contents of it, they wouldn't have bought it. It comes across as scummy imo.

I think the point is, that he doesn't.......

It's true, I would have thought it was stupid but I would have probably never bothered saying as much as I did if he didn't come out with "ashamed of your words and deeds".

The whole thing with
Paz is arguably worse btw.

Sooooo, if people are wanting to defend this kinda shit, I wanna know what arguments will be used for her design and movements/cutscenes in the game, because the ingame explanation for her "nudity" is fucking thin.

I don't think so, really, but at least those games aren't dishonest about it. You know the kind of bullshit you're in for when you buy Senran Kagura or whatever Vita anime game it is that's popular this month.

Shit costume aside she's my favourite character in the game. I got a cracking XOF outfit for her now though.

"So I guess you can never have sexy stuff in a video game, huh? I guess I just don't want to be as close-minded as that" or some such nonsense is what it usually comes down to.

All I got from the Jimquisition video was, that objectification is ok as long as it's overt, he's "angry" about is being dressed up, not the actual objectification, is this really the kind of message that should be sent out?.
