I think the reason why Quiet looks like she looks is because of sales. Just look at it:

MGS3's The Boss - One of the best females in gaming, doesn't show much skin until the end > sales around 3.6M

MGS4's B&B Unit - more sexualized with skin thin outfits etc. > sales around 6M.

MGSV's Quiet - lots of boob shots, most skin a female MGS character has ever shown etc. > sales in the first few days already over 3M.

I really think Kojima and company thought about sales when they designed Quiet, maybe they blaimed MGS3's low sales (compared to other MGS games) on The Boss not showing enough skin.

I mean you're forgetting that MGS3 had Eva, that showed more skin than any MGS game before it, and still the sales were lower than MGS2. So your hypothesis isn't really that sound.

MGS3 has the hottest character in the series, and unlike Quiet her sex appeal is like 40% of her character plot wise. (Eva) It was much more tasteful in MGS3, though. Eva was a Bond girl. Quiet is... something else

It was incredibly awkward, yes. But I liked how they both kinda break character and have "fun" for a few moments, and when they hold each other at the end there seems to be more between them than just combat buddies.

In fact, the Quiet cutscenes are almost exclusively scenes where Big Boss shows some actual emotion. The cutscene where Quiet jumps in the hold with the toxic gas to retrieve the kid's necklace, Big Boss gets genuinely upset and is visibly relieved when she jumps out.

I like the chemistry between the two, especially considering what happened in the hospital. It's just unfortunate that Kojima kind of trainwrecks this with the surreal shower stuff and all that.

If Quiet had been played straight, and wasn't gestating, rubbing herself down with rain and having her breasts out, the scene could have been cool, even touching. Perhaps Snake having a genuine connection with someone for the first time since The Boss.

But instead it's this weird blemish on both characters.

I hardly think it has to do with sales. MGS3 had both The Boss as well as Eva and Eva was just barely covered up compared the The Boss.

The reason is that Kojima is a pervert but unlike the people who make Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball, he can't admit it.

indeed, i've posted this before too but they could have had her wear something like this and try to balance the sex appeal and combat fatigues:

MGS2 sold more than MGS3, or am I wrong ?

I watched an interview with Hideo yesterday. He said they focus tested a bunch of school girls after MGS1 about if they would play a MGS and the majority said no because they didn't like "playing as an old man" he said thats why he changed the main character to Raiden lol. I always wondered if that lead to better sales.

You have to live your life with lungs full of air mang. Otherwise she would sound like any other female character in MGS V after sprinting.

Seriously what's up with the wheezing that happens after a sprint when you're playing as a female character.

She tries to seduce Snake throughout the game. Eva strips down and crawls around. 90% of her interactions with other characters is based on her sexuality.

She isn't 'nothing' compared to the B&B Unit.

Yeah but you've only seen her like that when you either bought the game or watched the TGS trailer, in no other footage do you see that waterfall scene with her, so you can't really say Eva was a selling point for this game.

I thought it was pretty awkward how Quiet being a total sexbomb isn't really addressed in the story at all. Like no one remarks that having a half-naked sexy lady on a military base full of hostile men might be a bad idea. No one has a sexual response to her at all before 45. It's the polar opposite of how Eva's sexuality was handled and feels unrealistic

it's just kojima trying to make quiet a love interest for the super cool super handsome male hollywood protag

watch the shower scene

Fair point.

I don't think the reason for the female characters seen post-4 is for sales. I just think Kojima enjoys it, and as he has gained more clout he has more directorial control, so we see more of it.

Vacuous female characters visually based off of models and given a back-story that's meant to legitimize them and their exposure. Cecile in Peace Walker was the product of Kojima incorporating a female Konami employee into a character.

Kojima just likes doing it and nobody is going to tell him otherwise.

What did everyone think of the Sahelanthropus fight?

Both encounters were really intense, i liked them alot.

However i also liked MGS3's Shagohod and Peace Walker's Metalgears being a little primitive so they fit in the tech-lore. This walking Gundam was waaay too advanced for it's time.

It's the best boss fight in the game but it still left me with an empty feeling. I didn't really care to stop it. It's also weird how it appears much more advanced than future metal gears while not being as big of threat.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but zoom in on the window on the right side of Snake in the ACC during nighttime

You'll see Medic's true face before he was turned into Venom.

Gameplay: Felt like the only proper boss in the game. Really fantastic fight. Unlike others I don't mind the automatic supply drops. I was using the rocket launcher, not the vehicles so I welcomed the ammo drops with open arms. Seeing it destroy my helicopter was absolutely brutal. Unlike the Skulls it actually has a more discernible pattern. The rocks and flamethrower were used to great effect, but none as well as the rail gun part where it will search for you. Exciting fight with a so-so amount of challenge.

Story: So stupid. Its gimmick is that it can't just stand...but that it can stand upright? So more than 2 decades before REX we have this more advanced weapon system already. They try to circumvent this by saying its not practical for a human adult to pilot it so Mantis does it. But then that just highlights another dumb story point: Mantis' power creep. He can fully manipulate this bajillion ton robot and its complex weapon systems with his mind but in MGS1 he....moves a bookcase.

What would have been better is if there had been no episode 46, instead they should've hidden the real ending inside episode 0 for the player randomly stumble upon. It is a flashback mission after all so it would make perfect for some kind of trauma or trigger at some point in the game would cause Venom to remember things differently.
In fact, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this was actually the plan from the start, and that perhaps the loss of episode 51 caused them to reconsider. That mission would have given the second chapter a conclusion, but as it currently stands it sort of fizzles out, and that would have left a lot of the less inquisitive players completely dumbfounded.
For this reason it might have made more sense to put what was originally meant to be a hidden ending right there in the mission list so that everyone can get some sense of closure.

But that's just my theory.

I thought the vocal cord parasite thing was super dumb when I first heard it, but I admit it's actually an interesting plot point. It sounds like something from a horror movie. This game is filled with a lot of interesting story ideas, but they don't really compliment each other and are barely expanded upon. Kojima wanted to do four games worth of topics in one.

the relationship between quiet and snake is so forced. i groaned when ocelot said she was in love with the legend because it literally came out of nowhere. one minute they're killing each other, the next she's in love with him? lol. they don't even speak to each other. boss just gives her commands.

Yeah I feel like this required more attention. He just floats that fucking thing off Motherbase and flies home and .... what? Thats it? Snake this guy seems more dangerous than a nuclear bomb right now.

Why was Mantis called "The Third Boy"? Who are the other two?

When and how did Ocelot and Big Boss get in touch between MGS3 and MGSV?

I feel the ending would've felt better for me if Ground Zeros was the first two hours of the game instead of a second thing. It would make the flashbacks to the helicopter work better, and it wouldn't seem as if Big Boss was 99% absent.

I perked up about the story when the idea of a parasite or virus that eradicates speakers of a particular language was mentioned. That's clever. That's something more than "I will have nukes so that people don't mess with me" (which is the other half of Skull Face's plan, though a bit more nuanced that that, selling nukes at bargain prices that he secretly controls).

But the game also uses the parasites to explain the super-powers and the story lost me. I can take one McGuffin, and the vocal cord parasite was a good one. After that there were too many contrivances within the plot, ruining it.

no way! Since when japanese devs do that in japanese games.
I thought all the tits and asses shown plus the fact that she's almost naked were just the embodiment of her merciful soul expressing the love for Fake Boss. how naive of me

the best part is that in a game like MGS, which is not your compile heart 15k copies sold in 3 months average game, tits and asses don't matter, even if they somehow thought they were going to. maybe they'll get a boost of 1% on those Quiet figures. (and I'm assuming you're being sarcastic with that MGS sales being influenced by boobs thing because lol)

Well technically, Big Boss is 99% absent. Since he's barely in this game.

it is why I think that is more sexist than her outifit.

This woman who is on a mission, just ends up falling in love with the legend and her love for him stops her from killing everyone as opposed to her coming to the conclusion based on morals.

You know what's the real disappointment is? It's the fact that Snake always holsters his weapons. Fuck this shit.

I'd say the opposite.

MGS1 sold around 6 million and was lauded as one of the greatest games on Playstation.

It was only natural that MGS2 should sell more, especially given the hype it was receiving.

It was probably Raiden and the whole crazy nature of the Plant chapter that knocked the series out of its stride and resulted in MGS3's low sales.
