Jimquisition (September 14th, 2015) - A Quiet Conversation

I mean, why not just be honest about it? The entire purpose of that character is to make heterosexual dicks hard and tittilate. Why not just throw up some porn or something instead of this whole "porn-but-not-porn" excuse?

The design and camera work is bordering on soft-core porn.

Amazing.

Only "gamers" get offended by this. Im sorry but theres nothing wrong with the character.

Its not just about offence. It's cringeworthy and embarassing.

Or maybe I'm not enough of a "gamer" to find a half naked bunch of pixels gyrating in the rain a normal thing to be sat watching.

I had to skip that scene. I don't think I'd have been able to look anybody in the face again if they caught me just sat back watching that.

Its a videogame. Why are people offended? Even females in the real dress up like it. Nothing wrong with being sexy, at all.

You didn't think the flashing her tits and arse and rolling around a little offensive to women and embarrassing for a man to be seen playing?

Its like Quiet desn't shoot her sniper rifle when you tell her to, and instead poses for the camera from a mountain top. Cherry picking at its finest.

It's not Cherry picking if we're talking about all the moments where Quiet has a visual screen presense. When you're using Quiet in game, she doesn't. You don't see her at all.

And then you extract, and you're in the menu, and her ass is literally in your face. Or you hit a cutscene and the camera is focused on her chest in a way that would usually get you chastised in other MGS games.

::SHRUG::

Also your statement has literally nothing to do with mine, unless your point is that Quiet is the best when she literally cannot be seen.

While I'm not a fan of the way she's dressed or the extra scenes involving her, I was honestly more offended at her terribly written story arc. It's really that bad.

Glad to see so many people find her design irritating and unnecessary. Looking forward to watching this one.
I think it's annoying that people have such issue with it. I love it. After a while you don't even notice.

If people want something else you should make it yourself. Stop trying to police creators artistic vision.

You heard it here folks. Don't have 80 million dollars to make your own MGS5? Shut the fuck up.

Because

1) They know a game that they like could be better if the director didn't had the maturity of a 12 year old

2) Because games, like every art, can receive criticism

3) Because real people can do whatever they want, Characters are bound to what the creator wants then to help to tell a story that teaches something.

4) "it is a videogame" means shit. This is a forum post and I care about what I am saying and what people can get from this. If kojima don't care what kind of message he is passing to MILLIONS of people, than he is AT BEST imprudent. Videogames can hurt, can teach bad messages, can make people have apathy to things that should give them a reaction. This "it is a videogame" also denies the power of the medium in a way that I am SURE that someome who took care to register and post on a forum like GAF KNOWS it has some power.

Its a videogame.
Video games are just as open to analysis and criticism as any other medium.

Why are people offended?
Are you sure people are offended, and not just rolling their eyes at how stupid it is?

Even females in the real dress up like it.
1. "females", huh?
2. In what contexts do women dress up like that?

Nothing wrong with being sexy, at all.

No, but there's a problem when it's executed terribly and it undermines the character and story.

Back to my favorite example, there's nothing wrong with comic relief in a movie. Doesn't mean you have to defend every example of it as if calling Jar Jar Binks out is an attack on artistic integrity.

LMAO right on time!

You didn't think the flashing her tits and arse and rolling around a little offensive to women and embarrassing for a man to be seen playing?

Nope. I just showed my missus that scene and shes not offended. She said people need to realise its a videogame.

What other reasons are there for all the sexualized bullshit we are witness to? What do you seriously think is the purpose of the design, the camera work and the animations? You must be trolling or willingly disingenious.

God damn, you know you can spoiler tag images. Please.

Your spoiler etiquette sucks.

I thought the red and bolded would be sufficient. Sorry. I put them in the black spoiler stuff instead.

As mentioned above, must you? As I am lead to understand, Quiet can be 'skipped' (in a way).

Sort of. It's actually something that I'd need clarified as well because, while I know that you can skip ever getting Quiet, she ties too tightly into the actual story of the game to be out of it fully.

I'm assuming you can skip her and make her optional, but I'm not actually 100% sure.

Sexy wouldn't be as much of a problem if Kojima hadn't told everyone that Quiet was sexy for a good reason and low and behold it's a terrible reason that makes no sense even within the series wacky lore.

Also, women dress sexy in the real world, but they're actual people with personalities behind the sexiness. Quiet barely has a character outside of sniping and posing.

Nope. I just showed my missus that scene and shes not offended. She said people need to realise its a videogame.

What does that have to do with anything? It's just a video game, it's just a movie, it's just a tv show, it's just a music video. Why does the format make it more or less credible?

My girlfriend didn't mind her looking the way she does, and I don't mind either, but I still think the poses she is doing and certain scenes in which she is on, are totally unnecessary. There literally isn't any point on having her pose the way she is posing.

Why is it bad that she is posing like that?

The point is wanton titillation. The point is for you to get a boner. Whether it is successful or not will vary from person to person but...that's the purpose of it.

Kojima sexualizes so many of his characters (male and female),it's not even funny.
Quiet is just another one of those characters.

He has the mind of a preteen at times and it shows.

Why is it bad that she is posing like that?

Did I say it is bad? No. I said it is unnecessary. There's a difference. If she wasn't posing the way she is, would it make the game less enjoyable? No, at least not to me. You are entitled to think she is fine the way she is, I'm not trying or expecting you to change your mind, but I just want you to understand my reasoning for disliking the posing/chosen camera angles.

Yup. I got a Boner-3000 from her.

Ya that's the thing about being a creator. The CREATOR gets to decide.

If you don't like like it, don't buy it. Artists shouldn't have to cater to the will of a vocal minority.

I just showed it to my missus and her answer to the same question was "wtf is she wearing a bikini in a war zone for" and in response to is it offensive "yes" in response to what would you think if I was playing that "you're not a teenage boy anymore"

they don't have to. not sure what your point is. do you understand what criticism is?

edit: oh I probably fell for a troll post again. goddamnit.

The shower scene is probably the most stupid, I'm surprised people don't bring that up the most, probably because it's a little bit of a secret.

I don't think anyone can argue that she is anything more than typical Kojima eye candy at its finest, it's basically a series staple, but I don't really see why it matters? She's a kickass buddy that plays the game for you in most cases, that's what anyone who has actually played the game thinks of her, because she's hilariously OP if you know what you are doing.

Being an artist doesn't mean you get to be above outside criticism. In the same way that Kojima has the freedom to put poorly developed naked women in his games, we have the freedom to call him out on it and point out how stupid it is.

Because it's kind of a problem in a narrative driven game when they spend more time building up the sole female characters as a sex object than an actual character. She is the best buddy, by far, but man, they don't do right by her at all, especially when you compare her to other Metal Gear Solid women.

Guess I'm one of the few that don't mind how she looks. Then again MGS is full of sexy characters, so I really didn't give a fuck about it.

You should have explained to her that
shes a plant and if she wore too many clothes she would die.
Bet she would find that totally not stupid.

Ok. Still, its a videogame. :)

I think people are missing the point here.

Jim didn't give a shit about Quiet being designed to be an "sexy" object for folks to wank off over. He gave a shit about Kojima getting on his high-horse and calling people dumb fucks for suggesting she would end up being "sexy" object for folks to wank off over.

OK, true. Tit for tat on that. Sometimes it feels like the vocal minority controls the conversation on issues like this and tries to make their stance seem like the "right" and "correct" stance. I'm playing Devils advocate here in a sense, there's nothing wrong with a super powered/basically magical character being dressed the way she is.

My personal stance is that I LOVE IT. I have always been a fan of the chain mail bikini for example, and Red Sonja is one of my favorite all time heroines. I see Quiet in much the same light.

Edit.
You heard it here first folks. Time to close GAF, Metacritic and co.
No, this doesn't even touch in the subject at all , or what I am saying. How do you equate ignoring a vocal minority as a creator with closing down websites?
