Switcheroos are common and fine to me, like the motorcycle thing,

No it does not. They skip so much shit. Quiet randomly gets tortured when you land on Mother Base. The LAST scene before the Truth mission is the "We will make diamonds out of their ashes" cutscene. that is the last thing you see before the big reveal. ????????????????

Mission 43 and the aftermath [including the diamonds out of ashes cutscene] should've been one of the first missions after you save Miller. Or a least when the parasite infection runs rampant in Mother Base. Splitting that up makes mission 43 feel like an afterthought, which [in my opinion of course] is a catastrophic miscalculation.

It's the perfect mission to set up the revenge theme, to set up "Big Boss" decending into madness. It makes infinitely more sense.

that answers pointless lore questions nobody asked

I feel like that sums up MGS 4 really well while I feel like MGS5 is really satisfying (missing conclusion to Eli story side) separate story. Here's the answer: DONT GIVE A FUCK about "lore". Lore is pointless bullshit that only exists for fans to obsess over. Lore is backstory. MGS 4 foregrounded backstory and made its entire thing about HOW without talking about WHY. I don't care about any of that shit. I don't want to listen to someone talk for 30 minutes about how something happened, and I'm glas as fuck all this shit is in tapes in MGS 5. It's not interesting. It's nuts and bolts stuff. "Parasites" was enough for me, I really, really don't need to know what magical sci-fi mcguffin shit they came up with to justify it. Because guess what, it's still bullshit! Why try to explain something like that, you know?

I wish people would stop caring about this idea of lore.

Also Big Boss' turn already happened in PW when he renounced The Boss' (the AI's, anyway) philosophy and accepted the title of Big Boss and kept a nuke on his private army mercenary paradise for Eternal War Forever.

Yup. I'll only watch his trailers post-release from here on out. I mean, the trailers told a more powerful story than the game itself did.

LOL! the trailers had a better structure period haha. They make more sense in the trailer than in the game. Actually.. some of the quotes in context make little to no sense.

"Kaz, i'm already a demon" was at the wrong time. smh.

I actually do like the Paz stuff in this game if we're assuming medic especially feels guilty about not saving her

That's actually my head canon.

A brief break through the hypnosis where he remembers watching Paz die and not being able to save her and he just feels immense guilt and regret for that moment.

I am pretty sure that's what it is supposed to be, some subconscious guilt. It works a lot better if you do the side quest before Truth

So I did the Sahelanthropus Extreme fight and the Heavy Machineguns are better than Rocket Launchers for him, woof.

RPGs just seem to be kind of weak. I need that Anti-Material Rifle but you need R&D up to like, 58 or some. I didnt think the groups went past 50...

I really love this game. I know that there was a lot cut, and the pacing was not good at all but the good bits were absolutely outstanding.

Mission 43
was just amazing.

Making me want to get a used PS3 and get the legacy collection too, just to replay the others.

Yeah I found out when I S ranked it the easiest way to kill him was to start the mission with your beefiest LMG, and a Bradley. Get in the Bradley and just keep shooting the body parts till they each break individually.

Even the Brennan wasn't as good as the soviet LMG from what I could tell.

I like how there were five people on the chopper (Pilot, BB, Miller, Medic and Chico) and only the pilot and Chico died. Hell maybe the pilot survived too, he can be the third Big Boss they reveal in the next game.

Fuck you Chico, you piece of shit. Even your sister was waiting for Big Boss to call and say he had no choice but to put two in your dome.

What I don't get is why the story is so choppy in chapter 2.

The first chapter flows just fine. I was actually okay with the pacing. Then chapter two comes which is just Huey completes the battle gear you never get to use. Eli starts causing trouble and then makes off with the ST-84. The base breaks out in parasite stuff. Then eventually Huey is exiled. Quiet takes off and you go save her. Then randomly jump 10 years in the future and we have the big reveal. Then mission 51 and you confront eli. That's it. It's such a jumbled mess. So much of it feels like it should have been interweaved with chapter one and I don't think people would have felt as slighted. There's also no progression towards the big reveal. You get a hint at it in the prologue. Then you don't get anything about it at all throughout the entire game. It's completely unrelated really. Then at the end you just replay the prologue and find out you're the medic. It's so disconnected from the events of the rest of the story.

I'm not even mad about it though. Just like, "oh... that's all? Okay. Coulda put that together a little better."

Yep. Chapter 1 had a good pace. It actually made sense hwo everything took time to develop as you worked through missions.

Chapter 2 is a cluster fuck of cutscenes at very weird times just for the sake of presenting the story. It seems everytime i do a side op if i go back to MB i get a cutscene, that is not even in line with the structure of what is happening.

My guess... Kojima run out of time nad had to duct tape the shit out of the story when Konami came down saying he was spending way too much money already and the game needed to come out by a certain date.

Finally watched the launch trailer and holy shit I want the naked snake outfit. Looks so good in fox engine.

Also reading the missing link in the saga got me salty.

I'm just waiting for someone to discover the seven "Find Skull Face" Side Ops in order to unlock CHAPTER THREE: PEACE, in which Venom Snake looks into the mirror and Big Boss looks back at him and says "You can't run from yourself forever," and reveals that Venom Snake is indeed Big Boss - that there are no Phantoms.

It's in the game files so it will undoubtedly be DLC!

Have played MGS2 on Vita for 2 hours.

God damn its good. The controls took some 15 minutes to get used to, as was the case on PS3 way back. Got used to the lack of pressure sensitive buttons just now as well. But yeah, it feels nostalgic and I'm almost starting to miss those ridiculous cutscenes in MGSV. Just loved a bat shit crazy Ocelot killing all kinds of innocents and doing bad ass revolver stuff, is this even the same guy? And I'm hearing a still good Hayter.

Could do without the codec interruptions though... But yeah, its fun.

Alright... poll time guys!

Story was garbage (though it could've had some potential).
Gameplay was amazing.
Lust was disappointing, as i'm more of an ass man.

MGS2 Ocelot actually has personality and purpose.

MGSV Ocelot is just a tool [almost literally].

Kojima seems to take some of his criticism into consideration. What about story? How is he received in Japan in this regard? Generally speaking Japanese story driven games games are pretty terrible. Do they like this stuff, are they indifferent ? Music, gameplay, graphics, presentation in general is top tier. Story is asscheeks. I wish some of these devs would hire an actual writer.

The sad thing about this game is that it's beyond recognition due to it's cut nature and rushed chapter2. I find it funny on twitter he insists this game is MGSV instead of MGS5 maybe because his original vision was compromised.

Every true metal gear fan knows that this is not MGS5. The MGS franchise was over and done with MGS4.

Phantom Pain is Peace Walker 2 when it's all said and done.

I really liked the story.

I didnt like the way the story was presented throughout the game.. it felt disjointed, but the story itself was brilliant.

A linear game with MGSV's gameplay with more focus on the story cutscenes would have made this an amazing experience IMO.

So where are all the members of KojiPro? At they still working for Konami or were they fired?

I know some friends that were working at the LA branch already moved to other jobs. None of them stayed there.

As far as the core team for KojiPro, no idea. I would think it was all disbanded.

Holy shit at that Quiet scene when you stink and come back to Mother Base.

I'm so happy to be alone playing this game
because of the shame involved if anyone walked on me watching this scene, not something else you pervs.

Isn't LA the team that's supposed to be heading up the as-yet unlaunched MGO? And they're already letting people go? Uggghhhhh

Tbh I didn't take it the other way, mainly because everyones felt ashamed from the deed of watching this. I see you too are ashamed of your deeds.

Such a lust for us to misinterpret your post though.....

Wow. I wonder what the working conditions are like. Or if they know if it's going to be shut down soon.

I feel like if they hire an actual writer then it will just turn out like some generic Hollywood wannabe game...which I realize is kind of ironic.

I like the uniqueness, quirks, and stupidity of MGS the way it is now.

I wonder if it was a mistake of them to keep in the chapter screens, would there have been anywhere near as much of a backlash?

Epilogue/Bonus would have gone down better, and the variants of missions could have just been shuffled in as something like 11B [EXTREME] instead.

This game took the worst aspects of MGS4 and Peace Walker's stories and combined them together. The whole character switcheroo explanation that happens in the epilogue which undermines a lot of the more powerful story moments in the game and the pseudoscientific explanations for supernatural powers all came from MGS4. The disjointed story telling and especially disjointed ending along with a lack of urgency all came from Peace Walker.

These were things that received a ton of criticism, so it was surprising that Kojima ignored it and actually one-upped MGS4 and Peace Walker by making the character switcheroo undermine the entire game, having a worse explanation than "nanomachines did it", and having a four to five hour main story stretched out across thirty to fifty hours worth of gameplay.

That scene surprised me because I fully expected to get the bucket from Ocelot since I had scene the non-Quiet version in the pre release marketing, but then she showed up.

Very awkward, and very Metal Gear. It was great.

I remember staring at my controller for about five minutes, wondering why I was even playing the game.

No game will ever make me as upset as MGS4 did.

Not even the MGSV dancing in the rain cutscene made me cringe as hard as the Johnny/Murl shootout. Or the wedding scene, for that matter.

MGS4 doesn't give a FUCK.
