No complaining about Hayter after Sutherland. It fits with his character.

Can someone explain what do they mean when you say there is nothing do in the open world?
You want to play tennis? Fish?
Playing MGSV...missing Hayter not one bit.
MGSV is the Darko Milicic of Metal Gear. In International play, Milicic was a great basketball player, however, on the biggest stage, the NBA, he was a journeyman who could never find a home for himself. MGSV is an amazing game in 2015 where open world is the way to go and stacks up well with the likes of The Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight-- but it doesn't hold a candle to the rest of the series.
Peace Walker is King in my eyes. 2 will always be my favorite, but Peace Walker nailed everything that this game should have.
I think my biggest problem with V is that there isn't a single "holy shit " moment in the entire game when I could name every moment like that in the series as they are so memorable.
If you ever miss Hayter, you can always pause a tape when somethings been brought up to do your own impression.
Person: Parasites
Hayter: Parasites huh?
The open world is just a bunch of roads connecting to various checkpoints or towns/strongholds. That's it. You don't get rewarded for exploring outside of any of that.
- RDR has random encounters
- RDR has mystery people you can unlock side quests from
It would be awesome to have sidequests open in this fashion. Like Quiets Boss fight. Just stumble on to them and things like that.
Would anyone dispute that Phantom Pain/ground zeroes is the gameplay king of the series? Just curious...

Whoa!!! Are you telling me that Hayter sounded different in MGS1 to Peace Walker?!
SHOCKING news.

Literally the first thing that V.Snake says to Ocelot in TPP:
Ocelot - "...he's in Afghanistan"
V.Snake - "...Afghanistan?"
There is not a single scene in TPP that is as powerful as the post Peace Walker battle cinematic, at least in my opinion. I'm taking about the one with the Pentagon guys about to launch the US' nuclear arsenal against Russia.

I agree. MGS4 goes full crazy AND awesome.
Both of your arguments are invalid. Can't change the script as a voice actor.
But nothing is wrong with Kiefer's performance, but Hayter in 4 and PW there is.
This I agree with but I don't see the open map as a negative.

Not even the MGSV dancing in the rain cutscene made me cringe as hard as the Johnny/Murl shootout. Or the wedding scene, for that matter.
Yes there is. The fact that he mumbles all of his dialogues like he's barely opening his lips to speak. He sounds sleepy.
It might be weird, but I feel like the Mission 43 and the final AI pod recording were some of the best moments in MGS in a long time.

PSY・S;178777199 said:What got me in mission 43 was the iDroid telling me a staff member has died every time I shot someone. But other than that, it was just okay.
That's because Venom had a hard life.
This guy has no identity, that's why he is so confused and sleepy all the time.
I don't know if you ever noticed this, but the way snake talks is always made to look reserved, especially so with Big Boss. Now, with mocap on the faces, it would be weird to see him enunciate everything completely.
You should just ignore him on this subject matter tbh.PSY・S;178776530 said:why are you so dramatic

I think people need to remember that the open worlds exist solely to serve the mission areas and allow you to approach them a number of ways. It's not an open world where a load of different things are going on or unexpected things happen, they exist to give you options when completeing missions. There's landing points close to all of the mission areas and, generally, in multiple directions.
That's why I wanted John Cygan as the voice of Big Boss in MGSV.
PSY・S;178777637 said:That could still be done without an open world and with more intricately designed areas.
This.
Apart from a few cassettes at the end, he doesn't even sound like he wanted to be involved at all. Hayter can still do the right voice, but his direction for Peace Walker seemed to be "sound gruffer" and the same would be true of this had he been doing the voice. I find it hard to blame Hayter when he can slip into the classic voice with few issues in interviews and what not.
And, let's be honest, hate on Hayer all you want, but at least he cared about the product as a whole when he was involved. Interviews, appearances, what has Sutherland done past the reveal he was the voice?
In a game where there's a character who shouts "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?!" like a cartoon villain and Ocelot being unable to decide on a voice, I think Hayter would have been the least of the voice cast problems. Poor direction all over the place.

Skull Face's VA was good but I don't see a way anyone could have delivered WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO? well. It's like Vader's NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO at the end of Episode 3, it's a bad line and impossible to work with
Pretty much.
"This is a serious game! We need subtle and natural voice performances!"

Exactly. I feel the same way. I know you may disagree with me on the following, but MGS4 gave me the scene with Ocelot taking control of the world's armament in the Volta. It was a scene where he basically became the "military god" of the world. Weapons acted upon his command.
Peace Walker gave us that scene with NORAD going apeshit and Peace Walker drowning itself in the ocean to stop the data transmission. And we also got one of the best scenes in the series: Big Boss finally rejecting The Boss' way of life by first saluting her sacrifice, then hesitating, and finally throwing away his bandana which was a memento of her former Master.
MGSV simply cannot compete against those moments.
You guys know it's not always smart to blame an actor for his performance ?
There is something called actor direction. It's there on virtually every production involving actors. What you see on screen is wanted and asked for.
Unless they work on super strict and tight budget, what you see was where they wanted to take it.
Kojima wanted the delivery Sutherland gave.
He asked for that kind of delivery. So if anything, blame Kojima.
Kiefer was perfectly capable and was pretty convincing at times.
The rest is handled by Kojima, including him barely talking ever in cutscenes.
Open world games are not my favorite genre admittedly, but compared to say, Far Cry 4 (which I enjoyed a lot) this is sooo much more intricately designed it's not even funny.

This is fucking METAL GEAR, people. What kind of franchise do you think you are playing?
I love the whole series and always enjoyed Snake in the old ones, but I prefer Keifer Sutherland here. Sounds like a human being instead of an anime dub.
One that I like to sound and look good no matter what it's about. It's the same reason I wouldn't want Seth McFarlane to do VO in Ghost In the Shell, while people cite robot titties and AI philosophy monologues as a reason it should just jump the shark and go full on Family Guy.
