Ishmael doesn't say "I'm you". He says "you're talking to yourself."

Not using a knife during gameplay has nothing to do with anything. Venom used a knife plenty of times in cutscenes. You were the real triple OG Big Boss in Ground Zeroes and you couldn't use a knife during gameplay, so...

Big Boss having a nerdgasm over his pistol in MGS3 was priceless. Is that "hold you pistol with a knife" idea practical, or is it dumb as fuck, and that's why it was ignored in V?

Uh.. How I fucking wish the game had been more like GZ. That game was thing of beauty. Good intro, good pacing and great ending. On top of that you could replay missions/side ops and get more info about Chico/Paz/Skull Face and generally about the base. On top of that each side mission had some background and wasn't 100% useless. The gameplay was great and I had s real sense of exploration and finding new ways to do go from A to B. The area was so well designed. I would loved if TPP was 10-15 of GZ.

Is the open world a fail though? Nah, the absolute worst offender for me was the pacing. It's absolutely horrendous. It's downright a fucking disgrace to any game ever and much worse considering its MGS. The story is there but it's delivered in such a clunky fashion that by the end I just wanted to be done with it. Chapter 2 is easily the worst part of any MGS game to date. I'm not even talking about the story itself, but rather the presentation and pacing. There's zero excuse for not letting me continue the game and finish it, but nope I had to do side ops missions because reasons. Not even yellow story related missions, just more junk.

On top of that there is zero build up to anything. Suddenly skull face is dead. Suddenly Quiet left MB and boom done. It's downright cringe worthy because she wasn't even a good character and suddenly I'm supposed to care for end that "ending".

Then there's the real ending where you play the intro once again. At that point I almost couldn't be bothered and I skipped most cutscenes except the important ones.

All in all I could live with the story as it was, but the god damn presentation and pacing makes me shake my head. It's just dumb through and through in such a way that I didn't even enjoy myself by the end.

As a gamer this game was fucking awesome, as a MGS fan Im super disappointed.

I was really annoyed by how little Snake spoke in the game but after the doppelgänger reveal it makes a bit more sense from a lore perspective at least.

One thing that caught my attention early on and colored my impression of Snake for most of the game, was that he never said "Kept ya waiting, huh?" to Miller when he arrived to rescue him, not even after when Miller straight up asked Venom to say it.

Anyone else wondered why there are deployment missions in south America?
I mean, if it were the resource collecting or recruiting ones I wouldn't care but the ones to disrupt stuff like supplies of helmets/cameras/whatever in the area?
It made me think I would be able to play there at some point...obviously that never happened!
I assume potentially cut stuff...that rumored "Peace" 3rd chapter maybe...

Random screen from youtube to support my claim:

I think someone said you could press something to have him say that line? Haven't tried myself... Weirdest moment for me was the car ride with Skullface, say something please! And I missed the "you're fired!" from peace walker, Sutherland's recording is even in the sound files of the game...

Wut?

Also, Peace Walker had combat deployment missions as well. It's nothing new, and doesn't scream "cut content" to me.

Yeah, I would've preferred a couple of GZ style levels instead of the open world and Mother base stuff. The core of MGS V is absolutely amazing and it's a shame most of it is wasted on such uninspired level design.

Did they ever explain the 'punished'/'venom' name on tape? I feel like I missed it.

In one of the early tapes Kaz said that when they pulled 'Snake' out of the coma he was full of Venom, but I can't remember which one that was.

Pretty stupid though when it's Kaz constantly clamoring for revenge and Venom is borderline comatose.

I see what you did there.

Well I totally fucked up.

I realised I didn't have the butterfly emblem yet, so I took Quiet with me to unlock it. But by doing so I maxed out her bond, so when I returned to the ACC I got the call from Ocelot that she was gone.

I'm pretty annoyed right now, I went straight back to Mother Base and fucking ultra-punched everyone on the Medical platform.

Where do I get cyborg ninja outfit?
And you're saying to use those specifically for the the sub-objectives after I have the s ranks?

Yeah, because it is easier to that with the stealth camo. You often have to listen to some guys and follow them. It makes life easier. I don't know how I got the Cyborg Ninja outfit, but I think you have to do every main mission and then develop it.

I'm having trouble understanding how y'all found this mission so unbearably hard.

Especially with airstrikes it went by pretty smoothly.

Unless you were trying to S rank it, then i can understand (but then again, S rank should be hard to get).

I s ranked it last night.

Extreme Back Up Back Down is harder than mission 45 to s rank for sure. To s rank 45 you just need to not die and not take forever.

You can cheese that easy.

Go north of the supply post and sneak in, one of the tanks is posted there and stationary. Get in and fulton. You need to not shoot a single person as you need the no trace bonus, but it's not very well guarded, so that should be easy.

Go back to the pickup point, phantom cigar until the timer runs out, call the chopper and leave.

I was mostly ok with the timers but 24 hours?

Unbelievably bad game design. What are you doing. I can play an entire Final Fantasy game in that time period.

It's server time at least, so you can just come back to it tomorrow and have it then. Pretty sure at least, will find out when I get home tonight as I started it and it had 21 hours to go.

Haha, damn.

The method I used was really easy, but not nearly as quick.

Indeed, Venom should've been Miller actually, his personality I mean.

Skull Face kept saying they were both demons, that they lost their humanity etc but Venom was a legit good guy in my game ... he did NOTHING cruel and evil.

I wanted to see venom's hand forced to do evil stuff. Then eventually he just does on it his own because he believes he's already gone full evil. "Demon"

Instead he's a genuinely good, though quiet, character.

Where in the old spoiler thread did some of the actual real story spoilers start showing up? I wanna read the initial reactions

Around Page 30 I think.

If you want people having a meltdown at the ending being confirmed, page 70.
