Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

I played Destiny when it came out for about 20 hours and I don't understand a word in the OP in the "What's new" stuff. lol

If I buy this now and start from scratch, do I have to first play through the whole Destiny Vanilla campaign how I know it from last year or are there actual improvements?

Just finished the story missions, what a ride! Every mission is more fleshed out in storytelling and level design than all of the original game. One thing I did notice throughout the campaign, where was Ikora Rey?

In Germany it is up! I bought it
and got everything except the vanguard weapons >.<

Did you try the browser store?

Yeah, I have (I'm in NA, BTW). No $20 listings, & the one listing that shows a sparrow/emote/shader is "unavailable" as I haven't bought the Digital Collector's Edition (I just bought the $40 version).

I just accepted the wrong class item from Eris on accident... fuck.

Guessing there's no way to get that one back? Shnitttttttttt

Anyways, got Bad Juju from the Cryptarch. I'll take it I guess.
When i tried all weapons out after the 2.0 went live before TTK cane out Bad JuJu was no joke. Was doing way more dmg than Red Death was. As for what year 2 version is all about dmg wise compared to other guns idk but year one version was kicking ass.

Shifty Warlock. I haven't played any of the story yet but I can only imagine she was off doing Shifty Warlock Things.

Well, I'm miffed. I only own the base game right now, and I booted up Destiny a few minutes ago to find some unwelcome changes. So, firstly, all the original crucible game modes have been locked out, like crucible and relic, because they now require the Taken King to play. This would make sense to me if it was just the new game modes introduced with the latest update, but to lock all of the game modes behind the expansion seems shifty as hell. Of course, that's not to say I can't play the crucible at all, since there are three legacy playlists (6v6, 3v3 and free-for-all) but this still means that I cannot progress with Lord Shaxx's crucible questline because it requires me to play a game of control, which I can no longer access.

The vanguard playlists seem to have been affected similarly - the only one available to me right now is a level 20 legacy playlist, which is useless to me at level 34, and especially annoying because the higher level vanguard playlists from before no longer exist - or at least can no longer be accessed without the expansion. Legendary Marks are a problem for me as well, because from what I gather they can only be gained via non-legacy vanguard playlists or the daily heroic missions, which today is a Taken King mission, and will presumably be missions from the expansion for the near future. This means I can't buy vendor gear anymore because I can't get the currency, so I can't make any meaningful improvements to my character.

There doesn't seem to be much of a reason to play right now unless you've bought the expansion. I get that there needs to be an incentive for existing players to purchase it, but gating off modes and content that I used to be able to access is just making me less inclined to do so - what if the same thing happens in a year's time? At the moment it feels like you either need to cough up £80 for all the expansions, buy the legendary edition, or just stop playing.
I personally think it sucks that game modes you had access to have been taken away. No more Control? Geez I can't think of a way to justify them stripping you of modes you already played.

As for your inability to get new armor: that's honestly far less of an issue. Since you can't play the new content anyways, being locked out of the economic opportunity to buy the new stuff isn't something which will affect you since you won't need (and at any rate wouldn't be able to equip at your level) current tier Legendaries.

But taking away game modes? Not cool at all. Can't justify this one.

So from now on we should refer to it as "the SKU misleadingly titled Collector's Edition in the store" whenever we answer a question about it?

It's optional cosmetic stuff available for people who want it. Like literally anything anyone had ever bought or sold, ever, it's a voluntary transaction between informed and consenting economic agents in a free market. The buy or no buy decision responds to each agent's expected subjective value as measured against the asking price.

The "DLC is greedy" thing runs rampant in the gaming community but makes absolutely zero sense if you understand the basic notions of business and economics. Like, I didn't buy it but this whole "paywall for no reason" thing just ignores the very nature of how business works.

completely disagree.

Factories creating extra special cases and figures and inserts/books/etc costs money per unit and should be sold for extra. Charging that same money for just the digital cosmetics and a few extra weapons is a ripoff. And it also snubs the people who bought the game and DLC packs already and kept them in business to start with. At this point for legacy players, wearing some armor from this or using a gun from it just states to everyone else "I paid $20 for this."

Not enough funds in the budget this time around to pay her voice actor I guess.

Maybe they are saving her for the next DLC.

I don't mind that Bungie replaced her with Eris Morn, she's a much more interesting Warlock than Ikora.

Oh yeh, that's a good possibility!

I pre ordered on psn but I didn't get a suros weapons pack? I got the emblem and shader last week but no weapons. What do I need to do?

Shh... Cayde is still hoping she doesn't find out about any of this.

I like how there's pistol side arms in destiny but man, because they use special ammo they are way too good for their fire rate and damage output, makes a hand cannon feel weak.

I'm only going by what I see right now, no TTK in my hands yet.

Logged in this morning before work, hit lvl 37 just completing all my bounties from yesterday :p Didn't even leave the Tower. Got all my veteran's swag. Picked up some sweet new greens to replace some now obsolete exotics and legendaries, dammit.

Did everyone get a year one exotic from the fake green engram?

From what I understand the Suros Weapons are at the vanguard weapon guy, basically just replaced the green shit from vanguard preorder

You should have unlocked your subclass first before you cashed in those quests

So after you hit lvl 40, you xp bar becomes blue and get's a yellow star instead of level, and you can keep filling this bar up. Anyone know what the point of it is ?

Also, how the f*** do I get taken to spawn on patrol mode? Got 2 quests that involve different kinds of taken

I'm gonna suppose its for motes of light?

So hold the phone. That spark of light brought my third character from 2 to 25, but didn't level up the class abilities. I'm level 25 and don't even have a super.

Cost and price are completely unrelated. I've paid thousands of dollars for a speaker to deliver a keynote over Skype for a conference. It costs him nothing do speak in front of a camera for me, but honestly when I pay for something the cost is completely irrelevant. What I pay for something is exclusively determined by my subjective evaluation of its worth. Cost is meaningless.

In this case, you think it's a ripoff. I'll go further. Let's say there's a US$1,500 shader on sale tomorrow. Surely most people will not buy it, because they'd rather have that money in their account than this shader on their character. But a few people probably would buy it, for whatever reason.

There is no ripoff and there is no moral dilemma, there's no greed and no conflict in a US$1,500 shader or a US$20 one or a US$0.05 one. It literally makes zero difference beyond whether you think it's worth it or not, but in no case constitutes some sort of greedy ploy. It's just business.

A smart company will try to sell products at their product-maximizing price. As in: I'd rather sell 100,000 units at US$20 than to sell a million units for a dollar each. That's not greed, it's giving people what they want at a price they're willing to pay.

Absent coercion or misinformation, consensual transactions between free economic agents in an open market can only be seen as wrong or greedy if you've got zero understanding of how markets work.

bungie are terrible at treating past dlc and content fairly, every big update has always changed, removed or adjusted something in a way where non paying dlc players lose out.

The same thing is going to happen after TTK has had it's break in period, the next dlc will arrive and something from TTK will be changed, removed and adjusted for newer dlc owners.

What should have happened is TTK should have been it's own thing and left alone the first two dlc's so you did not require them, because right now you need two now gimped dlc packs to even try and play TTK.

To anyone who has finished it so far, how long was the Nightstalker subclass quest? Was it the same type of objectives as the other subclass quests that were available since last week? Just wondering how long its going to take me to finish.

I think you are completely overreacting on this for no good reason.
There's nothing wrong with them offering the collectors edition content for 20. It's an option for the people that want the content.

Played for 4 hours... Won several Control matches... Not one single Legendary Mark... :C

Upgrading to year 2 Mask of the Third Man is going to be hard, huh?

I mean, I get what you're saying about the new armour. I'd be perfectly fine with it if the year 1 legendaries that I was gunning for before were still available, but they've all been replaced with year 2 equipment that I have no way of getting.

So hold the phone. That spark of light brought my third character from 2 to 25, but didn't level up the class abilities. I'm level 25 and don't even have a super.

lol seriously?! Fuck that noise then. Just play the game proper, one evening of playing will get you to level 30+ and you'll have half the abilities unlocked.

At the moment you only gets Marks for your first game of Rift !!!! saving up is going to be a proper grind ...

Control is really locked? That's straight up bizarre, especially if the other 3 original modes aren't...? It's like the most basic newbie mode, lol...

Oh yeh, that's a good possibility!

Kind of sad that a Hunter is a better warlock than the warlock no?

Man it's hard not to read this thread at work. Can't wait to get home and play later tonight

Everyone "wants" the content. That's the point. This is stuff we should all get for being loyal customers and buying their "expansion" for $40. Saying "well.......... these couple things you will pay $20 for" is a dick move. Especially since entire games (sometimes even two games) would cost $20 these days.

I haven't had the chance to login but maybe he's confusing the new control mode in TTK with the old control.

There are now two control variants, possibility the old variant is turned off for now.

I was afraid of that. I guess you'll level abilities super fast though since you can do Tiger Strikes from day one with that character.
