Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Does the game actually explain what's going on and the history of the lore? (Maybe what "the darkness is)". I really tried to like Destiny but I wanted an engaging universe with cool backstory. That's all it will take to get me back in. I've been watching lore videos and that's been cool, but I want more of that in the game instead of grimoirs on their website.

There is a cut-scene at the starting and a few during the stories and better voice overs than normal in the story mode which explain about what you would expect in a normal game that wasn't Destiny.

One thing to do is NOT expect it to be amazing, its not. Its what Destiny 1 should have delivered. A competent story within the confines of some gameplay.

It can feel amazing but that's just because Destiny failed so damn hard it was like a damned meteorite of suck boring into the earth.

I am posting this using my husbands account here since I want to buy this as a surprise for him....

We both have the original Destiny Digital version on Xbox One and we also have all the add-on's that were released prior to the Taken King. So what exactly do I need to buy to upgrade our current game +add-on's to the new stuff? I know we downloaded the update the other day, but going to the Xbox Store it looks a little confusing as what they have listed includes the original Destiny, so not sure why we need to re-buy a package that contains something we already have.

If anyone can help me, I want to surprise Hawk269 before he gets home from work later tonight and have it downloaded and ready to go. Thanks to anyone that can help.

I just finished mission 3. What's really struck me is how well paced they are. Most missions in the game to date have been drop in, and shoot your way to the end. Each one of these had long sections where I wasn't in combat. I was exploring, or platforming, or investigating areas and finding stuff that moved the story forward. The missions have breathing room now, and it's wonderful.

I love how Bungie leaned into Eris being batshit crazy. I was hoping they would, but in the first 2 minutes of the first mission her relationship with Zavala is established, and it's hilarious.

This is such an upgrade over the base game that's kind of amazing.
Would it be worth trying to jump back in for someone who played the first game, beat the main game, had no idea WTF was going on with the story, and stopped at level 20? I'm genuinely considering giving this a shot, but I want the story to be fleshed out and easier to understand, and I want the leveling system to not be crap, which it sounds like it isn't now.

Had the disc since Saturday but obviously couldn't use the fucker until today and now I have a fever and the thought of playing it is enough to make me want to vomit.

Fuck my luck.

Hi!

What you need is the $40 base package, (should be the only thing that cost $40 in the store) It should look like this:

https://www.destinythegame.com/taken-king/wheretobuy

Make sure you choose the right console. You can also look for that package somewhere on the Xbox Live store.

you have to buy the one that is $40.

Anyone knows what is the Curious Object that's mentioned in Petra's quest?

How do I find it?
Do patrol until taken appear. Destroy all taken and it will drop. It's easier with more people. I tried to do it alone and I couldn't do enough damage to a major. The taken got bored and left lol.

Do you mean the original story. Thats not helped much. FYI.

Anyone else absolutely in love with the look of the TTK weapons? I always hated the generic look of all weapons in the game so far... but damn are these new guns slick and sweet looking! They look as good and interesting as Year 1 Exotics, IMO!

Can someone explain what you do with those testfire weapons at the weapon smith? Do you get to keep them somehow after doing some specific task? etc?

so how good have the story missions been for those who have played them? Just the tidbit of the first one I saw looked fantastic(I stopped watching due to not spoiling it), please tell me they are all just as engaging and good.

Don't ruin them, just inform me how good they are.

Also how have the cut scenes been?

Only played the first mission... CG intro and CG outro... with a mix of in-game cinematics at beginning and end as well... nothing significant though. There are also events happening in the world before you as you progress as well... really great stuff.

The CG is SICK! I don't normally care to comment about CG, but hot damn, are these scenes pretty!!

Is Destiny worth getting into for someone who doesn't have anyone to play with and doesn't really want to anyway? Is it worthwhile as a purely solo game?

I started a new character when the 2.0 update hit, and it's a big improvement. The campaign is pretty big now with the two prior DLC's integrated into it, the missions are better than the base game by a good margin, and the reorganized quest structure means it makes (more) sense now. And you'll level smoothly from 1-25 by the time you hit the TTK campaign, which is the entry point for it.

And if you just want to use that level 20, the Dark Below and HoW quests are there to pick up, and they'll get you to 25 easily for the Taken King. Destiny is a much, much better game now. It's actually kind of weird to think back on what it was at ship. :

I didn't have anyone to play with either. But DGAF is always there for you, friend. You have hundreds of people in this thread to play with if you like. If you choose not to play with other people, then you just can't do things like the Raid.

That is how I play it right now because I can't find a free spot in a gaf team .___.

I still like it and played all day ^.^/

Its a shared world shooter, you might get some enjoyment out of it by yourself but its brilliance will be completely lost on you.

I'm being serious here, if you are interested. Get into the OT and start asking Destiny GAF for help. Some amazing people.

How do we upgrade year one weapons to year two damage? The ones that carry forward like Hawkmoon.

You don't upgrade the year one version to year two damage, you get the year two version which is a completely separate gun. For the exotic weapons and armor that have year two versions, having the year one version unlocks the year two one for purchase at the kiosks in the vanguard area of the tower for a hefty sum of legendary marks.

Correct. You'll get a Spark of Light that will level a new character to 25, and give them some decent starter gear. Just one per account, so other characters need to work through the campaign, but if you just want to have one jump in with the Taken King quests, you can.

My Titan and Warlock are both 30+, so it's a non-issue for them when I eventually get to working on their new subs. Right now, it's all about that new Hunter sub.

Thanks for confirming, I'm a-buyin'.

I would most definitely say yes.

I don't remember what the level requirement was, but now you have the The Dark Below story missions to play though... but they were on par quality wise with original missions (maybe less so due to no new ghost dialogue)... and they still reused old areas with only a couple exceptions.

House of Wolves story missions are where Bungie first started to show they have learned... and they crafted some really GREAT missions with some great dialogue between a few key characters. But still nothing from the Ghost because they still didn't get Dinklage back. Also still using old areas too.

That should lead you to level 25, where you (apparently?) gain first access too The Taken King story missions, which is now Destiny in all it's glory!

Damn! Definitely spent time in the last week upgrading those exotics ha. Oh well.

Hrm. I might give this a shot then, once I finish off Metal Gear. I enjoyed the mechanics of the first game, but the confusing leveling system and poor story really put me off. Glad to know that the game is much better. Thanks guys!

These new missions are great. Very distinct compared to the "Fight 30 waves of dudes, have your ghost scan an object, fight 30 more waves of dudes" mission from the first game. Really makes me wish Bungie would go back and completely redo the vanilla content.

Anyone have 2x $20 PSN credit? I have the TTK code from the physical copy which allows me to get all 3 expansions, but I already own the first two. So if someone can get me $40 PSN credit I'll give you the code to get all 3, otherwise the 2 extra expansions just go to waste on my account.

Great. I have just started playing Destiny last night (at level 1) Where do I get the spark of light?

Guys, I know you've probably answered this a million times today, but is the expansion worth getting? I played the original content and the first expansion, but never touched the second one because I didn't like what they offered.

My Laurea Prima emblem glitched out, it now shows me having gotten none of the golden chests.

;__;

So glad I'm not the only person noticing this

My vanguard suros auto rifle is the flat out coolest looking gun ive ever seen in a game EVER

Yes ... its much more coherent, lots of content,

  1. You could read any of the last 40 pages of this thread to see what people think, but
  2. It's only been out for 12 hours so no one is going to be able to give you the true answer.
