Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Guys, I know you've probably answered this a million times today, but is the expansion worth getting? I played the original content and the first expansion, but never touched the second one because I didn't like what they offered.

Absolutely. Tons of content and all of it is a higher quality than what was offered in the base game.

If you liked the gameplay I say yes. I also quit after DLC 1 but came back 4 months later for DLC 2 and found that it had improved a lot. The Taken King is like icing on the cake for me.

Thanks for the quick response guys! Yeah I know its only been out for a few hours, but I just wanted a quick impression. Sounds good and I'll think about it.

I have not played Destiny since since a little before the first expansion was released. I bought TTK yesterday and I have no idea what to do first?. What sould I do, complete or buy? Currently lvl 26.

I am sure this will allready be known, but just to clarify, anyone (Xbox One BTW) who wants to use two tokens, just create a new profile on your Xbox :) and log into Destiny with that profile

that way you can try out all classes from level 25 :)

I'm not done with MGSV yet, so I can't dive into this yet, but I need to know. Is there any reason to not dismantle old blues / purples / exotics now? Other than sentimental value, of course.

You can get all the exotics you currently have from a kiosk or something, right?

Yes. This shows what a bright future destiny has.

There are hundreds of posts of people's impressions... in two different threads even... read through and decide imo.

So are year one exotics still gonna be part of the loot tables? Whether there are year 2 versions or not there are quite a few I never got to grab that I wouldn't mind owning.

Does the game actually explain what's going on and the history of the lore? (Maybe what "the darkness is)". I really tried to like Destiny but I wanted an engaging universe with cool backstory. That's all it will take to get me back in. I've been watching lore videos and that's been cool, but I want more of that in the game instead of grimoirs on their website.

For that you will have to read the grimoire cards + put it together.

if you haven't played post patch then no

I looked around a little but but couldn't find anything anywhere. Where is the PS4 collectors edition add-on that you buy separately for $20?

EDIT: lol I waited a bit to finally post this. Thank you DeviantBoi!

So I got a deal on Destiny awhile back, installed it...and never played it. I'm getting an itch to play a console FPS and figure now is a good time to pick this up, just not sure if I should buy this beforehand.

Is the expansion going to improve my experience if I'm starting out at level 1? Or is it more like FF14 where pretty much everything shiny in the expansion is gated until you hit level x and I can wait until I hit that level before dropping monies?

From what I understand you get a boost to lvl 25 on a character of your choice. So you can go straight to the expansion campaign

You'll need to buy the 2 other dlc if you want to play TTK though.

Destiny 2.0 improves the entire leveling experience.

Sorry, I'm trying to stay caught up with everything, but what does this $19.99 upgrade get me IF I already had the launch CE w/year 1 season pass + prepaid the $40 version of TTK? Is it 3 exotic class items? Wondering if I'm missing something major.

Edit: yeah I'm being dumb, I see the 3 emotes & 3 shaders as well. Is it really just these 9 things?

I suspect it's a combination of better material, and a lack of direct comparison to Dinklebot, but Northghost has been pretty good through TTK story so far. I got used to him taking my Warlock through the base game, but he always had some odd line delivery in the mix (*whispers* "We've woken the...hive.") The character is less one-note now and even got in a bit of snark that was missing from earlier missions.

Oh, and I'm digging the Nightstalker super. Tethering doorways as an area of denial and demolishing everyone that comes through as they get bound up in the web. So good.

Looks like I'll be back on full force. I enjoyed my plenty of sleep nights. Time to hook up with some peeps to drill through the story after work today and more importantly form weekly raid parties. I've mastered the Relic and Sword, looking forward to what's next!

Ah damn, Luke was right

Still looking for people new in the game to play with ^.^ psn can be found in my profile

You know I REALLY like the whole communication thing now. You have way more people talking to you during quests

Well, just finished the Taken King story and got to level 40.

The campaign was a little on the short side but it was really a world of difference from the vanilla and even the previous DLC. They were diverse and engaging and had enough story to make me care about what was happening. The final encounter was probably one of my favourite encounters of the game so far, and definitely the best solo experience I had.

Now, after level 40, the end game also is way more structured. I have tons of quests to do and a more clear path ahead. It's a world of difference from vanilla where the game just told you to run the strike playlist over and over again. Even if I still have to rerun tons of content the quests give other challenges and a clear purpose.

I'm really excited to continue playing and getting better gear and stuff. And eventually tackle the raid. I haven't even done the strikes yet so there's still new content to discover.

What happens if use spark of light in a new character? I mean, i know it will take it to level 25 but does it complete the 2 sub classes or at least one of them?

You get some class items that have an XP boost, three different dance emotes, and three different shaders.

No need to purchase, unless you like have exclusive stuff, though the XP buff on the class items is nice when you're leveling up the new subclass.

A strike is "much better now"? How so?

The bullshit walls preventing progress while it throws dozens of major minotaurs and other vex (but doesn't count them as such so no bounty progress or glimmer) in a stairwell are now gone. The strike runs much smoother now.
