Once? All the Skulls have boss health bars, it's not just Quiet. So does Sahelanthropus. There are like 6 missions where it's used.

Sahaelanthropus had a different one than the rest. It was a health bar on the top of the screen as traditional MGS bosses have had. Everyone else just had a health bar and a stamina bar over their character.

Yeah, those who don't exist, they totally existed.

It'd been cool had they been visions by Mantis or something but nope.

They were there, and you could fulton them.

Venom is totally Big Boss.

Big Boss is a codename. Dude deserved it.
I was mostly joking, I love Venom.

The real tragedy was how Sins of the Father was used.

Terrible.
Not Your Kind of People, The Phantom Pain, and Nuclear weren't in the game at all.

I was waiting for them the entire game.

Venom should have tried to fulton Paz, then he would know she wasn't real

This farewell isn't phantom pain. This unburriable "everlasting scent of the hero" will let you move ahead. Enjoy V.

Incomprehensible mutterings of a madman.

Hard to decipher Kojima's meanings.

True, but that might just be used to differentiate between the humanoid bosses (less health, has stamina for KO) and a mech boss which would need a longer health bar to make it easier to read. If both Sahaelanthropus and Quiet had a bar at the top of the screen it would make more sense to think that there were more bosses planned, but as it is, I dunno, just seems like a UI thing.

Venom Snake

Smells like a hero

While I have problems with the game, I feel like you missed a large point of the series.

Mainly that, yeah, Solid and Liquid do have no point in existing. The effort to become the world's greatest soldier is just that, an effort, genetics have nothing to do with it. Solid Snake was the failure and he saved the world. Solidus was the perfect clone and he lost to some kid he fucked around with in Africa.

Venom was able to become Big Boss because he was, in actuality, Big Boss' favorite son. He was his star soldier, the guy who was with him wherever he went. Venom became Big Boss through effort, the hypnosis just convinced him he could do it.

If they had more backstory on this, or on Venom in general it wouldn't feel so jarring I think. But if they did people would have seen it from a mile away.

Sometimes I think the "Phantom Pain" Kojima is referring to is the pain the player experiences when they realize that it was all a lie, that you weren't Big Boss, OF COURSE YOU WEREN"T YOUR PLAYING A VIDEOGAME. lol. You are you, Big Boss is a character. The shock of the game being one huge lie is the Phantom Pain. The feeling like something is missing. That this ending, this answer, can't be it. The whole experience can't just be this lie.

I really dig this idea

So what was Kojima trying to say about English?

That a lot of bad shit was done in the name of colonization by English speakers? Does he think that is exclusive to English? Does Kojima know what the Spanish Inquisition was?

English as a virus. Give me a fuckin break, Skullface.

I think one of the most irritating things is that literally the trailers showed everything about the game cutscene wise, there were no surprises what so ever other than the ending which is disliked and everytime I saw a cutscene I would be like "well saw this already"

There is the only one who can give BIGGBOSS code name without any permission. It is BIGBOSS himself. If BB admits that Venom is BB,then he is also BB.

Ignoring the story, the gameplay itself is pretty fucking stellar.
Exactly. And I've been debating with myself where MGSV ranks in my personal list of all the numbered MGS'. It's been hard, because the gameplay is just so outstanding and, more importantly, fun. It's the story, or lack thereof, that ruins it. And, really, MGS is just as much great gameplay as rich storytelling (even if batty most of the time). So, how do we categorize a MGS game that loses an entire half of the components that make for a MGS game?

Oh, and because it's been brought up a lot, I am totally Team Hayter. Keifer did nothing for me. He was too stiffly gruff and didn't really put his talent into the role. Though I guess we should expect as much from a B/C-List actor (if it weren't for 24 being a runaway success, Kiefer would be washing cars somewhere).

So other than Paz and what was meant to be in mission 51, did Venom's head shrapnel affecting him mentally ever manifest in anyway? It just seemed like a misdirect for the most part.

The problem is more that this plan to mind clone Big Boss was enacted by Zero with Ocelot. It's an odd thing to have in your back pocket, this proven method to creating top class soldiers and is never mentioned (because in reality it wasn't thought up until MGSV).

Sucks that Big Boss can't spread his legend on his own. Also why does Ocelot say "the whole world wants your head". Who else is after him? He's only pissed off Cipher right? If his medic can take down Cipher it should be no problem for him.

The real tragedy was how Sins of the Father was used.

Terrible.

That was where the game lost me. Other than the end of Quiet's arc I was never engaged by the story again after they botched that. I play in the dark with big ol' headphones on and take games seriously. But by the time mission 43 rolled around, I was browsing GAF while lazily shooting my men in the face. I just didn't give a shit anymore. Nothing could make me buy into this story or these characters.

It was a massive relief when the story was over so I could go back to side ops or replaying missions for fun.

Wonder what Big Boss needed Venom to spread his legacy for, he was already known as the man who saved the world from nuclear armageddon twice.

Well, Cypher is sort of controlling the world, soooo.

I dunno, maybe there are other unnamed groups that want revenge on Big Boss for unispecified reasons.

to help him become the bastard we all wanted him to be in this game, but we got a fraud.

So we could see the real big boss become a demon in the most passive and offscreen way possible.

Just beat the game and leaving my impressions in here, if you have not completed the game do NOT READ

first ill start with positives of the game
-Gameplay, best gameplay from a metal gear game to date. Everything felt great about it and smooth
-Cinematography, great cinematography my favourite part of the game, big fan of the "one shot" camera, felt like THE RAID movies.
-Graphics, great graphics, glad they had to 60fps on current gen consoles felt great
-Guns and Equipment, great variety and being able to customise your own weapons was icing on the cake and left a whole new layer to the game
-Mother base, done well, micromanaged it but didnt feel like a nuisance
-Buddies, great buddies and memorable esp Quiet, loved her backstory and Joosten did one hell of a JOB.

Negatives
-Story, out of all the metal gear story lines in my opinion this one is the weakest
-Cutscenes, while they were done great and had great direction there was a lack of them. I am the type of metal gear fan where I dont mind the cutscenes to me that is what makes metal gear, metal gear. There should have been less tapes and more scenes to drive the game
-Side ops, it should be my choice in a game if I want to grind for certain things, but no way shape or form should I have to grind to see more of the story. Really annoying how i have to go out of my way to get something
-World, other than posts it felt a tad boring and wish there was more to it and placed in it
-Missions, after a while they got a tad boring. there was no substance to them and most times no real reason for certain missions, felt rehashed. Lots of the missions were forgettable, definitely some stood out but most felt just "there"
-General scope, while I love the open world concept and the "tackle the mission any way you want" I feel like a franchise like metal gear needs to be on somewhat of a leash to get the story out and flowing. Mind you the areas were big, but there needed to be more narrative, mgs needs a little bit of a leash to be fleshed out
-Map/Areas, while i liked how big they were i kind of wish they were a tad smaller. If they were smaller they could have potentially added a few more different areas. After a while I got tired of Afghanistan and Africa. I wish they were a little smaller, and added at least 2-3 different locations
-Demon, where was the Demon, I sure as hell didnt see one or become one
-Ending, Added nothing to the story for me if anything it left me hollow and more holes for me to have to think through. I hate the fact that the entire game we are playing a fraud, a fake a phony. I hate the "dark knight rises" type of ending where anyone can be batman its just a mask and a symbol, much like how anyone can be big boss its just face and a legend. I wish we played as the real big boss. Wish we also saw Zero, this should have been the game where Zero was pitted against Big boss, the PEAK of the tension between them, them going to the lengths of destroying the world to get at each other.
-Overall Story and what could have been, they could have told a great story of the real big boss's downfall, a man broken from being in a 9 year coma. They could really have showed him turn into a demon, lose his mind and begin his progress to hatred and revenge, but they took a stupid turn and said "well your not playing as the real big boss" It doesnt progress the story and just leaves a gap that still needs to be filled
Missed opportunities, Wish they included the real big boss but also Grey Fox at some point, would have loved to see his character grow and big boss giving him the title of Grey fox, would have been a great buddy to bond with and see him EARN that title after reaching the highest Bond level with him.

All in all a great game, but not a great Metal gear game, it feels unfinished, the story was lacking, Skull face to me didnt even feel like a real threat, he felt like he was just "there" To me a villain like Volgin in mgs3 felt like a real threat. Great game gameplay wise, story wise dropped the ball on several occasions and hate that THIS is the last metal gear kojima game, personally not a good note to leave off on.

BTW I am looking for a new game rich in story that wont really leave me in disappointment, how is the witcher 3, any good?

After seeing Volgin in the fox engine it really gave me the urge to have MGS3 remade with the fox engine and include these new gameplay pieces as well as open world, Imagine an open world Jungle Russia, dear god.

Yeah, the story is real good. Main quest is good, side quests are also amazing. Don't think the gameplay feels anywhere near as sublime as MGS though, even accounting for different styles and genres.

Part of the reason I don't like the "the player *is* Big Boss, it's your legend too!" is that Kojima devoted an entire game to saying "please don't think that you're a legendary video game character just because you played as him, live your own life."

(I also don't like the rationalization of Big Boss never seeming that bad in newer games as "well Big Boss was only supposed to be evil because of Patriots propaganda" when that doesn't even make sense in-universe. The one who actually discovered that Big Boss had "turned evil" was Snake himself, and he was devastated by it and went into retirement for years, and then killed him "for real" years later and once again disappeared; both times the missions were top secret. When Big Boss's Cold War files got declassified (by The Patriots) between 2 and 4, everyone is talking about him and emulating his CQC techniques and whatnot, while Old Snake is still pissed enough at Big Boss that he had quit using CQC until then and was only using it now begrudgingly. That doesn't sound like a guy who was tricked by propaganda, that's a guy whose views of Big Boss's rather shitty morality come directly from personal experience.)

We say deleted cutscene, but apparently Peeler said it's in the game and that he is surprised somebody could've got to it in a legit manner this early on.

Is it not possible there is some other conditions we have to complete?

I remember when the trailer with this first showed up and people started to speculate that Big Boss and Skull Face would join forces at some point in the game, both are vengeful to Zero/Cypher (what we knew then of course) so it matched up.

Also due to what we got later in the trailer, Big Boss killing Mother Base members, maybe his lust for revenge on Zero/Cypher made him join Skull Face despite knowing it was him who killed his men, this works with the men becoming demons thing.

Little did we know about the scene directly before that screenshot.

Also because of this, Skull Face at mother base.

Fun times.

How incomprehensible is it to someone who is unfamiliar with its predecessors?

Yeah, this is such a load of bullshit, because that plot would have actually been good. Like, something a bit deeper/interesting than "MAJOR, I'M BURNING UP!" and splatzone.

I didn't watch a trailer since the E3 2014, so I was totally expecting some badassery to happen when Snake hops out of the truck.........but nope.

So if I start over and use the butterfly emblem, I'll still get an ending, but not the "real ending", and I can keep Quiet and keep doing missions and stuff?

Would I still unlock stuff like the Leather Jacket, and other costumes?

edit:
Any there a way to use Quiet with her Black Eyes Super Hero look? Wish that was a costume.
