Well, letting Huey go is a bigger punishment than killing him. If they would've killed him, he couldn't have drowned himself in the pool because his son fucked his wife.

I'm pretty clueless on the MGS series outside of a couple of games, but...

I recently "ruined" the game for me, when I found out that
Ishmael is Big Boss and Punished Venom Snake is the chopper medic.

But I couldn't believe it right from the start of PP, because Big Boss
was never portrayed with a horn or a missing arm in MGS4.

I'm currently at mission 13, so I have a little story before me, but I don't actually understand Kojima's intentions during story writing..

Finished the game a little bit ago. Really conflicted and underwhelmed, while still satisfied in an odd way.

What are some scenes/missions you would have liked to have seen or played if the game had the extra year or so of dev time it actually needed?

-Mission 51, obviously
-Venom retreating into Outer Heaven as Solid Snake draws closer, in one last attempt to call Big Boss.
-Venom's dying breaths, perhaps on the radio with Big Boss as he passes.
-Big Boss coming to Mother Base undercover and paying Venom a visit to give him the reveal.
-Skullface poisoning Zero
-Zero visiting Big Boss one last time
-Huey's murder of Strangelove
-Big Boss waking up in the hospital

Just off the top of my head at the moment. There are so many things I wish could've been done differently or just straight up better. There are so many awful things about this great game and it's just really disheartening.

I would like to have had in the game:

- A kickass motorcycle to ride
- More variety of vehicles
- bonding with Eli, perhaps even influencing that inferiority complex he had somehow.
- a cutscene showing the kids escaping
- a proper fight with Skullface
- better bosses
- puzzle sections akin to Nikita electrified floor in MGS1
- a large interior section. No fulton, no marking, hiding bodies and just proper stealth
- a fight scene with Metal Gear at Motherbase ( COME ON, it was the PERFECT Trojan horse)
- better lead in to the "twist" to make it mean something. Maybe those memories of who you were start coming back.
- get rid of code-talker
- boss get down

Having slept on it. Game is incredible. Story is intriguing. Meta-Ending is pretty cool.

The negativity here is hilarious. The air here does feels like MGS2 all over again. (and because of that I'm starting to appreciate it more) I don't see how some are incredibly salty over it. This twist was literally thrown in our face from the very beginning. I feel like some of you are expecting too much. Its Metal Gear. Its Trolljima. It was one hell of a ride. Enjoy it, because its probably the last time we will have something like this in a long time. :'(

Whatever happens to this franchise, it won't be as eccentric and unique as what the hell just happened now. Konami is probably going to attempt to turn this into a dudebro stealth game with a traditional story. You guys might like that. Its gonna fall somewhere in between modern-basic Splinter Cell and Hitman. Whomever is handling the story now, I don't even know how they would even hold a candle to the 28 years of craziness.

RIP the legend/legacy of Big Boss

yeah okay man

you're the levelheaded one here

What do we learn in MGSV? What is the character journey? It's not even a criticism of the Big Boss phantom or anything like that. Venom's story is basically "Zero and Ocelot turn a soldier into Big Boss, and so he does Big Boss stuff". The character he is at the end is exactly the same one who wakes up in hospital, leaving the only reason for his existence to add more KOJIMA RUSE TM to the lore.

It was also for Kojima to say good bye to the fans and thanks for playing, but I'm sure he didn't imagine he would have to ship an incomplete story to millions of people when he created that scene.

The negativity is not a product of "KOJIMA RUSED ME". It's a product of a story that is surprisingly boring and wholly forgettable from a man who notorious for exactly the opposite. A story that adds little to nothing of legitimate intrigue to the lore, and falls flat on its face in developing an interesting antagonist.

If the story has to rely exclusively on the merits of "It's Trolljima!!!" then what an underwhelming and bland story it is, because MGS1/2/3 were far more than the Kojima Ruse Cruse.

It was Fukushima, man. The series hasn't been the same without him.

I totally believe this because at worst Fukushima would have been a strong collaborator on the narrative. His absence is the lost of a second voice that stories like this need.

This too, and I like that. I'm fine with the idea of Venom being a vessel for the player establishing the legacy of Big Boss, because I'm fond of stories where myths and legends of heroes of history are met with a reality that undermines their accomplishments. And MGSV is still one of the best playing games of the year for me. But yeah, I mean, the plot just not come together at all.

The only air this game has is if MGS2 farted all over it.

I mean, it's not that I didn't like it, I loved it. I didn't mind the twist as I didn't even see it coming.

I just wish there were more to act 2, as it wasn't nearly as good as the first, and it felt super rushed and abrupt. It just feels like there should've been more story

Agee with most of that. Originally I thought an MB fight with MG would be impractical because of its size, but... they could make it float in mid air! why not go all out with it.

I didn't really catch that from Ground Zeroes. I got that Skullface had a bone to pick with Big Boss and also wanted Zero dead, but I never got that the attack on Mother Base was ENTIRELY Skullface's plan and had nothing to do with Zero. I didn't get many of the extra tapes though so maybe my bad.

Youtube :)

Also PW's special end tape showed that Miller was working with Cipher which is why Paz had to speed up her plan to take over Zeke.

Probably why the real Big Boss had no problem building his own nation without him.

It's like Metal Gear Solid 2 if Raiden didn't actually have any character arc or revelation about his identity and grow as a character, and Solidus had about three scenes worth of screen time, much of which was forgettable and undermined or memorable for all the wrong reasons, Big Shell began and ended in exactly the same state, and the story's final exposition dump just booted you back into the Tanker mission and you played it exactly as it was before except there was an extra scene or two that said "You're not Snake".

What is Tomokazu Fukushima doing right now ?

Nobody knows / he disappeared.

Crazy internet theory: Yakuza killed him.

When does the Quiet rape scene trigger? It's not the part in her ending when russian soldiers are holding her head underwater is it? There's nothing close to an attempted rape in that scene.

My only problem with how she was presented was how little she was set up as an important character. The first time I heard some guards talk about her was right before I had too fight her. She has no background that I know of and how the hell does she become some epic sniper when she's just another soldier working for Cypher in the opening, maybe she went through the same treatment the medic did too become Big Boss lol.

Hahah "Oh that guy who knowingly invited KGB and Cipher agents onto our base and didn't tell me until after they turned our own weapons against us? Nah fuck that guy I can order food for the mess hall myself."

Errrrmmmmm. After the guy holds her head underwater until she passes out. He unzips his pants and starts to straddle her before she wakes up and fucking destroys them all. That's why at the end of the action sequence she even stabs him in the dick. It's very clearly an attempted rape scene.

He wasn't shown with a horn in MG1 either.

Of course MGS4 also did say that they just reused parts from Liquid and Solidus to "rebuild" Big Boss, so that would have at least explained him not having a missing ar
which is moot, since its explained away in PP anyway

Uh what the fuck are you talking about?

He pulls off her pants, then the camera holds at her drowned face while you hear the sound of a belt unbuckling and a zipper unzipping.

Did you play that with sound off or do you not actually understand what rape is?

You didn't hear the very blatant unzipping sound or notice that her pants were missing when the camera panned back out when she woke up?

It's also why her legs are bare after but clothed before.

Are there any women in this game who aren't rape victims? I'm trying to rmember if that female worker was, whos husband abandons her.

"Look, he wasn't trying to rape her, he was just taking off her pants so she could breathe better, and then taking off his own pants so she wouldn't be embarrassed. God, you people!"

They didn't remove her pants because they saw a scorpion crawl up her leg

You hear the guy pull down his pants or unzip them, I forget which, after he drowns her. She's probably more than just a random XOF soldier since Skullface sends her to assassinate Big Boss. Beyond that she's got the parasite, so who cares what her abilities were before they make her superhuman.

The difference between MGS2 and MGS V is that the trailers and marketing for MGS2 were all for the purpose of hiding the fact you played as Raiden. The MGS V trailers nearly outright spoil the Venom Snake twist, that's another reason it didn't work.

Uh, Johnny Russia drowns her, you here a zip and rustling of trousers then the next scene she doesn't have pants on...plus she stabs him and another dude aggressively in the dick region.

The twist to me was akin to playing the entire of MGS2 as Solid Snake and then in the final credits he takes his face off and he is Raiden. I can parse the twist, but it just doesn't elevate the story in anyway for me. It doesn't feel earned.

I really like the music that plays during mission 45 too.

I think that actually would have been a better place for Sins of the Father, but I also imagine they knew it would take everyone like two hours to do and figured it would get annoying.

Also I'm betting Sins of the Father was originally intended for the Eli fight in the cut chapter.

I was fine with Kojima thanking me.

I just wanted it to say Chapter 3 after the credits rolled.

Then after that Chapters 4 and 5 or Prologue while giving me more Big Boss, Liquid and finally Solid Snake.
