That's because there were no remains. Solid Snake may have killed Big Boss' Phantom in Metal Gear, but that is simply metaphorical. He killed Venom Snake's ability to be Big Boss' Phantom, but freed him to be something more. Shortly after the destruction of the first Outer Heaven, Ocelot extracted Venom and put him on life support. With a combination of parasite therapy, cybernetics, and early nanomachine developments, Venom was revived with a brand new arm which could pass as a normal arm rather than a robotic one. He was given new hypnotheraphy by Ocelot, now under orders from the Patriots, to believe that he was the non-existent third clone of Big Boss. A "Solidus Snake" identical to Big Boss in every way. To feed into that illusion, they also brainwashed a child named Jack to believe he was trained by Solidus over the years. The bond between the two reinforced their shared false histories. After the fall of the real Big Boss in Zanzibar Land, the Patriots decided to act again, allowing Venom Snake's new persona to become the 43rd President of the United States.

This explains why "Big Boss Dies" is listed with a bunch of space between it and the events of MGS4:

He never died. He ruled the world until he finally died at a very ripe old nanomachine assisted age. It was Venom/Solidus (healed via nanos to no longer have the horn) that Solid met in the graveyard and foxdied.

It all makes sense now.

This is more fun than the story was in the game

Why couldn't they have done this instead... holy shit

This is so much better than what we got

Pls stop with this meme. I know people are disappointed with the story but literally every awful fan theory that gets posted here gets replies like this lol.

"omg...wud have loved this instead...fuk kojima.."

So at the end of the game, you get a tape explaining that you are not Big Boss, but an exact duplicate created by Zero to protect the real Big Boss from his own organization. This scene is really really good, and I love Kiefer's mocap work when Venom Snake smirks and looks at himself in the mirror with this look of power.

But the last few seconds of this scene are extremely important! When he flips the tape over, there's a time jump to 1995. How do I know this? Be perceptive; in the reflection of the mirror, there is a Diamond Dogs emblem on the bathroom door.

However, when Venom flips the tape over, that emblem becomes an Outer Heaven logo, and outside you can hear gunfire and chaos. What's the other side of that tape labeled?

Operation N313 aka the operation Solid Snake goes on in Metal Gear 1.

...

It can be safely assumed that whatever is on that N313 tape, Venom doesn't like it. He reads the info and immediately destroys a mirror in rage; that does not sound to me like the reaction of a happy man in a healthy partnership. Given the info we have, it can be reasonably assumed that Big Boss and Venom communicate through those cassette tapes; it can also be reasonably assumed that towards the end of Metal Gear 1, Venom Snake becomes aware of the fact that Solid Snake is coming to kill him and tries to sabotage that operation. During the game, your CO is Big Boss. He's basically the Campbell of Metal Gear 1; he gives you hints and suggestions on what to do. But suddenly, towards the end of the game, Big Boss contacts you on a new frequency and begins giving you bogus advice to try and sabotage your mission.
Real Big Boss's frequency: 120.85
Venom Snake's frequency: 120.13

This second Big Boss on the new frequency is Venom Snake trying to stall Solid Snake's mission. Now, what we see in MG1 is that the entire time, Big Boss is helpful in assisting Solid Snake in his mission to destroy Outer Heaven. We also know that Venom Snake contacts Solid and tries to stop the mission. If Big Boss didn't want Solid to kill Venom, he would have also worked to stop the mission, not assisted the whole time.

It isn't clear, and it will never be clear, what Big Boss's grand plan was for Operation Intrude N313.

As it stands in canon now, he expected Solid Snake to fail. Given the new information about Venom Snake, his motivations become even more nebulous. Killing Solid Snake is obviously in Big Boss's favor, but so would killing Venom Snake. Why? Venom Snake is one of the few individuals who knows of Big Boss's double and if he is capture alive would likely raise many uncomfortable questions for Big Boss in regards to his position within FOXHOUND.

The Outer Heaven uprising is intended to be a rebellion against the Patriots, but at some point it may have become obvious that it was going to fail. Venom Snake doesn't get the N313 tape until Snake has spent some time on his mission (you can hear him fighting outside the room Venom is in). At this point, it wouldn't be unreasonable for Big Boss to assume that the uprising was a failure, and that ultimately, the Patriots would destroy Outer Heaven. If Venom was captured, it is possible they could discover Big Boss's involvement in its founding.

So what about the damn MSX tape?

I think the tape contains Venom Snake's final mission: to die for the Big Boss legend. If Venom gives his life and takes responsibility for the uprising, Big Boss will be able to remain undercover and unharmed, ultimately allowing Venom to complete his mission as a lightning rod for Big Boss.

In the end, Venom gets the same mission that the US handed down to the Boss in MGS3: he is to die for his cause and will go down in history as a war criminal. No one will know who he was, no one will know what he sacrificed. His life, his face, his ideology, everything was to be taken by Big Boss and his legend. Big Boss does literally the same thing that the Philosophers/the US did to the Boss, the very thing he swore to stop so many years before.

Venom gets angry and rejects this mission; he punches the mirror and contacts Solid to try and stop the inevitable. In the end, Venom does what the Boss doesn't: he rejects his mission and implicates Big Boss in the whole thing. He tells Solid that he is Big Boss, causing Solid and everyone else to think that Big Boss had double crossed them and was simultaneously the leader of Outer Heaven and the CO of FOXHOUND, thus blowing Big Boss's cover. Solid kills Venom Snake, and Big Boss goes into hiding to build Zanzibar Land. And well, the rest is history.

I don't think you're reaching with this theory at all. A lot of the details here make sense with the imagery we were given and with what we know of MG1 and 2. The ending to 5 is vague but unlike the rest of this game it really shows rather than tells.

I think it's open to interpretation regardless due to how vague it is but I really like everything in your post.

Honestly, if Big Boss didn't totally freak out after finding out he wasn't the real deal, he's probably so brainwashed that dying for the cause makes perfect sense.

solidus is the villian people thought should've won
thats why he never appeared in mgs again

watched the yongyea review, love the guy and his passion for the metal gear franchise, but that blinded him from what the game was, it was a great game but a terrible mgs game

Best Ocelot moment his is his trolling of Fortune and Vamp at the end in MGS2. You two think your special hahaha you are both nothing.

Instead we got "a gunship" ocelot zzzzzzzz

Honestly, if Big Boss didn't totally freak out after finding out he wasn't the real deal, he's probably so brainwashed that dying for the cause makes perfect sense.

He basically already died for the cause when he jumped in front of Big Boss to shield him on the chopper anyway.

Is it possible that Big Boss is the final boss in the original Fallout?

No, but in a cool easter egg you actually meet Skull Face pretty early on in Fallout: New Vegas, after he has adopted the moniker "Beatrix Russell".

"Beatrix" is Latin in origin and means "she who makes happy". Due to wolbachia laaanguage male to female copulation parasites, Skull Face does not simply identify as one gender - he is both male and female, and neither male nor female; Sans Sexua Franca. He believes that he will free the world, thus "making it happy".

"Russell" is of course a reference to the Jack Russell breed of dog. Jack = Big Boss, and Russell = Diamond Dogs.

So you see, everything is connected. It's like poetry, it rhymes.

Ocelot at the end of MGS2 was on hot fire, telling Forture her wangst was all bullshit, then showing her all her powers were product of The Patriots (even if they weren't), and then shooting her.

Sleeping on it and reading up on some stuff after the fact, I don't entirely hate the ending twist all that much anymore. Not saying it's preferable to what Kojima could have done with the game but it's still pretty good.

If I had to rank the Big Boss prequel games in terms of quality,
Gameplay: MGSV >>> MGS3 >>> MGSPW
Story: MGS3 >>>> MGSV >>>>>>>> MGSPW

Also, I would love a remake of MGS3 in MGSV's engine. CQC in the jungle with those smooth mechanics, gimme that.

The sarcasm in these last few pages is sharp enough to cut through steel.

Eh, don't blame him.
Metal Gear was probably my favorite MG fight.
Quiet on Extreme I enjoyed more than Wolf & The End.

Others were shit though.

Like the final fight with The Boss in MGS3, it all depends on how you tackled it.

The Skulls final fight was exciting if you traded blows with them.

Nothing more satisfying (although it doesn't do damage) than CQC countering a Skulls soldier

Pls stop with this meme. I know people are disappointed with the story but literally every awful fan theory that gets posted here gets replies like this lol.

"omg...wud have loved this instead...fuk kojima.."

I didn't know voicing an opinion is a "meme". If other people are saying the same thing regarding other fan theories of varying quality it just means what was in the final game was just that bad.

Hears another meme for you tho; Go outside and breathe

what is a meme to you?

Yeah, most of these fan theories and the fan-fiction is better than what we got. That's more telling of the actual quality of the game than the quality of the theories, though.

Ocelot at the end of MGS2 was on hot fire, telling Forture her wangst was all bullshit, then showing her all her powers were product of The Patriots (even if they weren't), and then shooting her.

Then it ends with him diving into sea with Ray and Solid Snake running, diving then swimming after him and catches up to Ray.

MSG2 is king always has always will be

I had fun with the Skulls fight only because I realized you could stab them. It makes it easier to stay close (but not too close) and hit them with the incredibly inaccurate MR launcher.

The Sniper Skulls were a cakewalk with the RENOV and Quiet's Sinful Butterfly. The first time I fought them, she would have to be airlifted after taking out one Skull, since both of us had tranqs.

Was trying to give you / others the benefit the doubt but if the general opinion here is that every theory posted is somehow better, that's too bad.

Can't I just open a window tho?

Yeah, damn Kojima not letting us sell dead soldier diamonds as GMP. What a hack!

Also what's with the literal /v/ copy and paste quoting here. Oh, Enter the Dragon Punch post I see ( ≖‿≖)

Such a lust for Fisto!

Them reverse engineering Ocelot to be a good guy cause he's anti-patriots is so stupid.
"I don't get any kicks from torturing. It's just a persona people created around me that got out of hand. I was never gonna melt Huey's metal legs. It was just psychological warfare."

"Oh by the way, I'm going to be a complete bastard who kills a US Colonel's daughter (non-canon ending, but still) and a marine corps officer as well as a bunch of other marines when I sink them to the bottom of the hudson river, and I'mma shoot the President of the United States. But it's all in an effort to help Solid Snake and defeat the Patriots, see? I'm like The Boss! I'll become a villain for the sake of my country!"

And we'll find out in a retcon that each and every single marine managed to swim to shore and Scott Dolph was just in a coma. Fortune also fell into a coma. Emma also fell into a coma.

I forget which tape but someone says "Your gene, my meme" and that's probably the most Metal Gear sentence ever.

It might have been the Strangelove one.

Yes it's the Strangelove one, where she was basically waxing lyrical about how Otacon was intended to be a love child between her and the Boss's AI pod. Because with her genes and the Boss's meme, the father would be "irrelevant". Lol.

I think the ending is the equivalent of going from the Pain fight to Boss just outright saying she was here on a fake mission that spun out of control and then the game ends.
