What are your guys opinions on miller btw ? People saying he is a great characfer makes me feel like im missing something but something about his voice actor and certain things he says and the way him acts makes him the worst 'codec' character for me. Felt about the same way now as i did when peace walker came out

I was waiting the entire game for some moment where Miller shined and he never did. I can't understand why people liked him or why he's popular. From the tapes in GZ, I was expecting a cool, meathead, ladies man kinda of guy. In TPP, He was just bleh. Always complaining and whining. When I choose to take Quiet on board, he acted so bratty "Whatever I'll just have her killed anyways".

The only enduring thing was the hamburger saga with Code Talker.

Did you play Peace Walker?

The only memorable character rising had was the senator. Because of just how stupid his character is even in contrast to the rest of the ridiculous characters.

Nanomachines son

He's the best, but I can't agree there. Monsoon left a memorable impression on me despite how criminally short his appearance was.

Mistral was lacking though despite having my favorite boss theme of that game.

Oh fucking come on, you wouldn't even know who she was if it wasn't for this game.

The sheer amount of patronizing and 'let me be ashamed for you' mentality going on in discussions I have seen is sad.

She loves the portrayal of her image and character within the game and has stated this on her videos and twitter hundreds of times.

The ironic thing is, the people who claim to be tired of female characters in games having their agency undermined by 'needlessly sexy designs' are doing the same to Joosten by saying that she "secretly probably hates it." and that "a gig's a gig" along with other such tripe I have read.

Yeah, exactly. "let's go inside da mind of a Stefanie Joosten"

Yeah dawg, she's really going to say otherwise and undermine the launch of the game.

Heaven forbid you actually listen to the woman and take what she's saying at face value....

Amen.

I have no idea how Joosten feels and also don't really care that much. If she thought Quiet was a strong statement for feminism, it wouldn't make me reconsider how bad I think Kojima fucked up that character.

The Paz shit just seemed kind of cheap with springing Miller and Ocelot on you for a several minute explanation right when you assume it's brain pain and ultimately kind of pointless since the game was basically over when I got the last photo and got the ghost tape or whatever the fuck that was supposed to be and they don't really do anything with hallucinations or psychological damage aside from that. I didn't even realize the Paz tapes were supposed to be new until the second last one since I figured they were just recycling the PW stuff I never saw or paid any attention to again.

This isn't a matter of being "offended," trying as hard as you might be to make it about that. It's actually cute how much you're trying. I don't really care what Joosten thinks about Quiet's look or anything like that.

You know what it's about? The fact that the story and characters in this game are absolute shit. It's not even about the sexualization. It's more about the fact that the writing, in general, is crapola. And I'd like to see what she could do in something that isn't a pile of hot poo. In that respect, I stand by what I said: she deserves better. In fact, most of the actors really deserve better.

In my case, I'm not talking about Joosten or anything about female characters. I'm talking about when something is designed to blatantly elicit some emotion that it ends up backfiring. Like an Oscar-bait movie that tries so hard to pull at your heartstrings that you can't help but push back and refuse to buy into it because of how obviously artificially constructed it is. Quiet is the sexual nerd fantasy equivalent of that. She's a sexy lady assassin who tried to kill you, but fell in love with you and will give her life for you! She wears a bikini and is a strong sniper lady who can really kick ass with and without a gun! She needs to wear a bikini because she breathes through her skin! Here, let her shake her ass at you in this helicopter. Yes Kojima, I like sexy ladies, but you are trying too hard.

MGS1 and 3 are the most replayable for me. MGS2 really bothers me with all the forced Codecs and the boring "switch over to nanocommunication because we can't be bothered to animate this whole scene".

Oh, come on, then we wouldn't get that ridiculous (edit: and hilarious) "what's that guard and hostage doing together in silence?" scene from Ocelot. :D

So what? After listening to her in the game and outside of it, I think she has potential, and I'd like to see her used in a game that actually taps into her abilities. This game doesn't at all, and in that respect, it's a shame.

Yeah dawg, she's really going to say otherwise and undermine the launch of the game.

She is a model, she has been hired for her pretty face and body. She is not an actress. We can keep lying to ourselves or our family by saying that a "burlesque artist" is not a stripper. (yeah I'm using this analogy)
She got this mgs job because of her activity, how she looks. Ok you think she performed well, if that's the case someone will give her the chance based on something else than what she has been hired for this game.

And what was she doing in this game? Modeling or acting?

Game is/was amazing. Got the actual ending about an hour ago. Not in a rush to go back, haven't gone that hard into a game in years. Thankfully it still has another 60 or so hours of content left. Which is mind boggling. I hope they support this game with new regions to visit, I would consider that to be the only disappointment in the game. Gimmie a snowy area or an urban one.

Or even MG2

Maybe he just finally broke down and resigned himself to his fate.

"By postive thinking, I mean the happy feeling that you will get from tearing Big Boss' spine from his back. That deserting piece of shit! REVEEENN- oh...right uhhh Snake...remember to think positively."

Was Kiefer modeling? It feels like he barely had more lines than Quiet.

Venom was near mute but Big Boss was pretty chatty though. Seems like it was an intentional choice.

just saw kiefer at tiff

dude is promoting some movie with his father no one cares about

why u no promote metal gear

That would require Konami to get involved and Konami isn't interested in promoting.

Removing Quiet from the game after that mission is beyond stupid. I barely had time to use the Sniper Wolf outfit, and I never got a chance to try some missions with the Sinful Butterfly rifle (my first playthrough I always play stealth/non-lethal, so I only ever used the Guilty Butterfly)

Why remove such a big gameplay element from the game? Can you imagine Bungie (for example) removing the Warthog from Halo 3 after the first playthrough? Ridiculous.

Is there a glitch or anything to use her again?

Compare him to Joosten, who has been talking about her role non-stop for the last year. She even has a let's play of the game on her youtube channel.

If anything she cares more about the role and the game than the fucking lead man, and yet people still want to imply that she actually hated it and can't admit that because it might hurt the games sales.

It's why I loved Hayter, he's far from the best VA in the biz, but fuck me does the man love being snake and respect the role. Dude gave up half his paycheck to get the cast of MGS1 back for twin snakes, his cat's twitter profile is 'Solid Snakes Cat' ..I'M NOT KIDDING

Joosten has been very much helping the game.

But to be fair to Sutherland, he has many other responsibilities. MGS is but one drop in the bucket for him.

And yea, Hayter is the fucking man. He IS Snake, no matter what happens ever.

Just finished the game with the true ending and wtf? Has Kojima gone senile? The gameplay was great but I really can't begin to understand the bizarre design choices when it comes to story presentation for this game. It was so bland and underwhelming. That's not usually something you say when it comes to MGS titles. My gripes:

* Why the hell is Snake basically a mute protagonist? For someone who rambles on about the importance of language so much why did Kojima decide to have Snake sit there like an idiot and not say anything when important things are happening! I miss the awesome banter between Snake and his colleagues. Yeah you get cassette tapes but Snake himself doesn't have those moments like he had in the last. Is this some misguided pretentious attempt at being artsy or a budgetary constraint? Because it falls flat on its face.

* You are no Snake Kiefer Sutherland. Boring, soulless and bland performance. And that lisp became really annoying after a while. Worst performance out of the cast. But hey he's a proper actor and brings a gratis to the role! (Lol). In saying that I'm a huge Troy Baker fan and he wasn't much better. I would have preferred they got Hayter and Zimmerman back. At least I would have felt right at home. Really enjoyed Kaz' energy and Code talkers performance though.

*The pacing was awful. If I have to grind side ops to progress the story that is poor design. I went for 10 hours at a time with barely any cutscenes or filler missions that did little to advance the plot. Takes notes from GTA Mr Kojima.

*Cassette tapes. Laaame. Why am I sitting here staring at a blank screen listening to hours of tapes for the story? In the end it became more of a chore rather than something I willingly enjoyed like the cutscenes or codec calls of previous titles. Isn't it amazing how many crucial story moments happened to be taped on cassette at the time?

*The ending. So the legendary Big Boss was some random NPC all along. *facepalm*

I realise most of these points would have been mentioned already but I needed to vent. Honestly if another director had dared to implement these ideas instead of Kojima we'd all be saying that director destroyed Metal Gear. The original Metal gear solid script was a great mix of humour, charm and flair. Where did all that go Mr Kojima?

Don't forget the actual ending, Mission 51, was included as a video on the collectors edition bonus Bluray. It's up on youtube though, watch it.

This comparison is incredibly disingenuous. If you can't see that the character is problematic then I don't know what to tell you. Just because joosten is happy to be in the videogame in the capacity she is doesn't mean it's not a role that's worthy of criticism. 1 she gets exposure which she would obviously be vying for, 2 you really think she's going to bite the hand that feeds? You ever consider that she may feel even a little conflicted? And even if she isn't bothered by the characterization, that means NOTHING. Of course sutherland doesn't give a shit. Do you think kojima could get someone like Anne Hathaway to play the role of Quiet? Give me a break.

It would have been good, but Hayter and Kojima seem to legitimately dislike each other now. It's easy to see how both took what happened personally.

I can actually see it from Kojima's perspective - he had this opportunity to work with a movie star, from TV and films he's really liked, of course he'll do whatever it takes! Then when Hayter got all mad about it publicly and aired his dirty laundry, Kojima was likely incredibly upset. That was some class A bridge burning right there.

At the same time, Hayter was likely equally unhappy with Kojima's lies about it. Kojima kept insisting Big Boss needed a new voice actor, but kept the same voice in Japanese. He was transparently starfucking and Hayter was the one to lose out because of it and Kojima wouldn't even be honest about it.

Also I think Hayter's comparison of MGS5 as "New Coke" might have been scarily accurate.

It does suck that he got screwed out of the role because of Hollywood boner.

Sometimes when I'm asleep, I have dreams about MGS5, instead it was a linear game like the other numbered games (1,2,3, 4) but still let you approach infiltration in different ways like in Ground Zeroes (why wasn't TPP like Ground Zeroes, would have loved if the missions just flowed together like all the other games instead of having to hear chopper blades and sprint across wasteland for 1/4 of my playthrough), It was also the best game ever as it had a awesome mind blowing story that wasn't a disjointed mess like how it actually turned out in 5.

I don't really give MGS5 bonus points or anything for having enjoyable gameplay, mainly because I expect both that and very intriguing/interesting story based on my experience with the previous games in the series. So much of the dialogue in the game is wasted on missions featuring random npcs that you have to kill/extract, as opposed to being focused around the central story, which was given much less attention.

I can only imagine the previous games with stuff like "ok, now go assassinate this random arms dealer. Finished? Ok now extract this random prisoner, blow up some rebel s, none of this is related to the story of the game in any way, shape or form, but we decided to put random quests as main missions so that the segregation between Mission List and Side Ops is kind of pointless.

So many of the main missions have absolutely nothing to do with the main story, seriously. Only a few directly deal with the central conflict. There are way too many filler main missions. People who think you can only have either story or gameplay but not both should play some of the previous games in the series.

I would have loved it if the game was actually a combination of the hospital, Ground Zeroes style base infiltrations with no bullshit chopper blades and empty wasteland, the medical facility mission and last Quiet mission levels of feels. Take all of that and multiply it by 10x with ample story stuff to boot and I probably would have died in the process of playing this game because it would have been soo good.

At least we have MGO3.

Kojima started it.

It's funny how we've gone from "you will be ashamed of your words and deeds" to "guys, she's a model, why did you expect more than eye candy?"
We need to skip 4 stages to acceptance that the characterization is just bad.
To be fair, that would have required the script to actually call for acting, instead of the nonsense that it turned out to be.

People have been trying from the very beginning.
This shit is absolutely ridiculous.
