MMarston, you got in a Kotaku article from this thread by voicing what we were all thinking lol

Just finished grinding to get rid of the demon snake horn and permanent blood.. (Extracted kids)

What a stupid fucking mechanic

Totally punishes the player with the dumb visual change. Blah blah blah only use non lethal.. With the armory of lethal weapons and bombs etc

Can't play the panther play style, can't go Rambo when you want unless you want a bloody snake that ruins all his outfits and a stupid looking giant horn out his head. Even the avatar is caked in that mess.

just boring tranqs and stun grenades huh zzzzzzz

I didn't even build a nuke and I have over 180k heroism. Needs to be removed or have a total overhaul

The horn is alright, but the blood is overkill. Way too in your face and looks terrible all around. Even worse is the bloody Snake they used in some of the marketing. It just looks gross.

That's a young David Hayter :)

This reminds me, Hayter could probably replace all of Kiefer's BB in-game and cutscene dialog in like two voiceover sessions that later could be implemented in the PC version lol

I'm not the first to say this, but it's hilarious that a game that puts so much weight and importance around language and words, BB barely talks ever.

You know what, he seems like the type of guy that would be receptive to that type of thing lol. I would love to see it happen.

How amazing is it that Ocelot has more personality in 30 seconds of MGO footage than he does in all of The Phantom Pain?

First thing I tried when I unlocked the Combat Unit was putting Ocelot in it and trying to deploy as him. Seeing this footage it kinda hurts that you can't play as him in the singleplayer.

I was thinking of which character I like the least. It's gotta be Ocelot.

It feels akward seeing him using weapons in MGO, thought he only uses needles from now on.

The fact that the Boss' uniform was zipped up for most of MGS3 seems to have slipped out of collective memory at this point.

If you're a female character in an MGS game you have to pay the titty or booty tax at some point. It is law.

Generic Diamond Dogs female soldiers are no exception.

Well, you know, "sex sells", and this is [presumably] DLC so...

Remember when unlocking new outfits was a reward for finishing the game? Haha, those were the times.

Konami being Konami, I suppose.

One thing that annoyed me (and i'm nitpicking here) is how skeptical of Psycho Mantis' powers BB was in one of the tapes, when Ocelot tells him he's an ESP.

I guess technically he didn't went through MGS3, but he must have heard of all the crazy shit the real BB fought there, including The Sorrow's shenanigans as a psychic.

The Sorrow was just able to talk to the dead and appear as a ghost, not really a psychic. Just a medium. However, Big Boss also met Elisa who is just like Mantis.

Venom Snake being sceptical because he's not Big Boss would be major bullshit considering he happens to be 1:1 to Big Boss in every single other way. But since this game's story is a complete shit-show anyway I wouldn't be surprised.

I was reading the wiki for metal gear and did not notice the translation for phantom pain Japanese name which was Metaru Gia Soriddo Faibu: Fantomu Pein. Bravo japan bravo.

lol

It's really hard to imagine it's even the same guy that BB met in MGS3 and that eventually turned into the crazy old revolver man you know from MGS1,2 and 4.

Nothing eccentric, crazy or cunning about him, a complete waste of his character. He should've been a crazy ace player (like he is in all the other games) that BB and the motherbase soldiers would be a bit uneasy around but let him stick around because of how competent he is and what he knows. Big Boss should have qualms about Ocelot's loyalty and if he even can trust him etc

Instead he's just homely, boring asshole. Just fiddling around the base and dumps a bunch of exposition. Hell, even Kaz felt more like a threat and was crazier than Ocelot ffs!

It doesn't help that Troy Baker's appearance was lent to Ocelot for some godawful fucking reason and that Baker's voice isn't fitting to Ocelot at all... (no hate towards Baker, he's great but just wasn't right for Ocelot.)

Thinking about stuff like this just pisses me off more...

I figured using cqc would've blown his cover or something.

All of MSF was trained in CQC, wouldn't have given anything away. Just more M. Night Kojima stupidity in a cheap attempt to throw people off.

He probably had A++ stats in all categories, just like Big Boss. Venom was likely backup in case the mission went south or something.

Miller outright says in GZ that there is no backup.

The only dumb thing to me is not carrying a gun when the enemy arrived. I guess they got caught off guard, but it's still super dumb.

Even the doctor had a gun! But apparently the real Big Boss who was being hunted by the whole world couldn't handle one, just a bedpan.

Yeah, the completely unnecessary sexaulization is really tiresome.

MGS have never been great in this regard, but with MGSV, Kojima really outdid himself. Quiet's design, creepy camera angles and poses almost all the time she's on screen and the fact she's the only female character in the entire game pretty much (except a docile Paz that is in some kind of hospital bikini, meant to be gawked at when she sleeps...).

Also, the female skull forces snipers, I literally laughed out loud when the camera was panning on their tits and asses as they were introduced in a cutscene, it's like a 13 year old boy directed some of these cutscenes.

This is why I roll my eyes when I see people trying to say that she unzips her suit at the end of that game for purely dramatic reasons. "She's baring her soul! She wants Snake to remember her as a woman, not as a soldier! No, it's perfectly reasonable that the caesarean scar starts at her boobs, shut up!"

Kojima is a child.

Don't let the childish shit this game does besmirch MGS3's memory.

Hello I'm new to the thread because I just beat Mission 46 last night. Overall it was fucking awesome but a little disappointed we never saw Solid Snake or anything from the MSX game.

So, I'm 112 hours in and I've got missions 48-50 plus 40-something side-ops left to do. Is there ANY WAY to get Quiet back for the remainder of these?

Nope. Unless you are on PC where you can mod her back.

Bummer,

So anyway, while this game is fantastic and probably my GOTY over Witcher 3 right now, I can't help but feel disappointed in the story. I DO NOT prefer the dull ass cassette tape delivery method, especially when Code Talker is just rambling on. (how many times have I heard the words "vocal parasites" in the last two weeks?) It might be the best Metal Gear game ever, but MGS1 still holds that title for me, personally. (And I only played it for the first time in 2008 when I marathon'd 1-4, so it's not nostalgia talking)

How many unique story missions happen after the ending of Chapter 1?

Also, can I skip Chapter 1's credits without missing anything?

Holy crap that was amazing. I truly believe the story could have worked even with the crazy twist if it was executed correctly. Still wondering what the fuck happened to this game, every single trailer for it looks so fucking good but it all fell flat on its face.

E3 2015 is my favourite game trailer of all time...I think.

But the statement stands... if there is this apparently heroic god tier soldier sitting right there why not make some more clones? Because apparently it doesn't really MATTER that Big Boss is who he is does it? DOES IT!?

Yes, that's correct. You understood the point. The legend is different from the man. Congratulations.

Seven, I think. 32, 35, 38, 41, 43, 45 and 46, if I remember correctly. Only 43, 45 and 46 have any real story content to them, though; the rest are just the random filler kind of stuff that makes up 90% of Chapter 1. Most of Chapter 2's story is delivered through cutscenes that the game will summon you back to Mother Base every now and then to watch.

that's what I'm saying

lets get the kickstarter going boys

I don't know what to tell you except to use the building for cover too and anticipating where the guys are going to be. I didn't really rely on gimmicks and got the S rank. You could try pre-loading anti tank mine too I don't know if they'll persist after the cutscene, but stuff tends to in this game so it might be worth a try. Maybe give one of the Brennan sniper a go instead of rockets? They do good damage to vehicles.

Yeah I finally pulled it off, I just had to be better with building cover. I think the S rank is basically guaranteed as long as quiet doesn't get hit.

Reminds me of the Beyond 2 Souls reveal where they spent like 15 minutes hyping up the fact that bringing the character to life is only possible through Ellen Page's acting, and then the first like 3 minutes of the trailer she's sitting in a chair not saying anything. While people are talking at her.

Ok seriously is Revolver Ocelot actually gay?

"She's in love with the legend. I was too once."
Quiet never stood a chance, she is like the sister to Venom who is captured in a love polygon with Zero, Ocelot, Miller, the real Big Boss and our favourite Yanderen Skullface.

Yes, that's correct. You understood the point. The legend is different from the man. Congratulations.

Except that's not the "point" of this game at all, just something a few people in denial have conjured out of thin air as a meagre defense. This game does nothing to explain any of Big Boss' actual recorded acts, such as his stints in Kuwait (Sniper Wolf) or Mozambique (Gray Fox).

MGS4, Portable Ops and Peace Walker showcased the man as the legend. He did all the things he was hyped up for, thus making him legendary. He still does all these things. The Phantom Pain just suddenly throws in an unnecessary and nonsensical detour that neither adds or explains anything. He isn't any less of a legend. He just suddenly has a doppleganger who did things nobody knew or cared about before. The status quo is the exact same, nothing is changed or even tipped slightly to one side or another. Big Boss was already a legend after MGS3. First in the black ops world, and then to the public at large.

We have Venom Snake in Afghanistan, Africa and Outer Heaven... so? The real Big Boss is still running around in other nations when he's supposedly trying to hide from the world--- even though he stated he would face the world at the end of Peace Walker. Why did he need a new passport? Did his old one just say "Big Boss"? If he was using his real name on his old passport, how was he not caught sooner? Why does he even need a new passport when he has a private army and can just hop in any number of fucking choppers or planes? He was still active not only as a mercenary, but also as commander of FOXHOUND, a high-profile role. He was also closely followed by the mass media and his face was widely known around the world. Anyone that saw or scanned his new passport would instantly recognize him. And don't give me that "he changed his face" shit because he didn't.

Trying to defend this nonsense is an exercise in futility. Kojima is just the M. Night Shyamalan of video games. The stories he's written by himself aren't even decent pulp. They're nonsensical. He cares more about tits than any concrete narrative and he'll achieve tits by any means necessary, even if it means undermining or outright disregarding his own writing. He's a great game designer but an absolutely abysmal writer. Every indication points to Fukushima being where the heart and soul was in MGS1-MGS3, and even the sub-par Portable Ops is better than any of what Kojima shat out afterwards. There's a stark contrast between the games pre-MGS4 and post. It's an incredible difference.

Also what is even the point in having two Outer Heaven logos? Couldn't just retcon with the Venom Snake one like everything else was retconned?

BB's characterization as Ishmael is really just perfect. He's super chatty, witty ("You're talking to yourself"), and has his awesome moments (jumping off the stairwell). He felt like Boss to me, in contrast to Venom who, aside from being a leader who cares about his subordinates, isn't really like Big Boss at all.

I just imagined the entire exchange between Venom and Big Boss as Ishmael with David Hayter being the voice actor. I feel like the twist would have been spoiled immediately. For even the most unobservant of people.

He's talking about the end of MGS3.

The end of MGS3 is fine. People just looking to stir shit up because they're (understandably) perturbed by Quiet's portrayal in V and looking for other examples of Kojima's childishness when it comes to female characters, for some reason zeroing in on The Boss's scarred body and not the fact that you can hold R1 to look at Eva's ass while she's getting dressed.

MGS3 and V are separated by more than ten years, a cheesecake DLC multiplayer outfit or whatever it is in this game has no relation to what happened at the end of MGS3. Believe it or not, a partially exposed female body isn't always an invitation to jerk off, even in Kojima Land.
