Persona 5 delayed to Summer 2016 for PS3/PS4

Ugh. We all saw this coming a mile away, but I had really genuine hope.

Oh well - more time to put into MGS and Xenoblade in December!

I think there's a major communication problem between Atlus USA and Atlus JPN.
Either that, or Atlus USA knew they were lying to us.
Regardless of the promises made, this game was first slated for 2014, then a PS4 version came it at last year's TGS and it was slated BY ATLUS JP for 2015!! Now Summer 2016.......something is happening to justify these delays. I can understand 2014-2015 switch due to a whole new current gen version being in the works, but what now? :/

Persona 5 will be in Famitsu so let's hope we get some light on reasons behind this delay. Bright side is that now we got a full release window, so they are hardly not meeting it. July 2016 it is, potentially close to that for US, hopefully Holiday 2016 for Europe.

Wow... Sooooooo they lied?

Everyone was OK with it because it was expected. But they kept saying.... "No no, we got this. No delay".

....then it gets delayed? Like, you didn't even have to li----

Ohhhhhhhh... they were screwing over stock holders?

Atlus constantly insisting that it would release in 2015 is pretty hilarious now. I was completely convinced that it wouldn't be delayed.

So this basically means Atlus USA knows nooooooooooooooooothing if they are acting as shocked as we.

IE Persona 5 in the USA in 2017 and EU in 2019!

This wouldnt have hurt so bad if they hadnt doubled down on 2015 just a few weeks ago.

Oh well, xenoblade is out in december anyways so im good there.

Obviously the Japan branch of Atlus doesn't communicate with Atlus USA, or at least not very well.

So probably fall or winter 2016 in US (good luck Europe). That's another year worth of delay right there. I wonder what went south during development as it's quite a significant delay.

I find it hilarious that so many people were adamant that P5 is coming to US this year even in the face of obvious signs that the thing is going to get delayed. "Atlus said 2015 multiple times so it must be 2015".

Overall, the trailer looks good, the delay is disappointing, but there are plenty of other games out there. Oh, and Atlus PR is kind of full of it considering how much the game got delayed and their insistence of no delay up to a few weeks ago.

People really should just seeing if P5 releasing at 2015, they would already doing the media exposure at Japan since like I dunno, June?

They not doing that at all, you want to compare situation to P3/4?
Newsflash, the series is much bigger now.. no way they doing same type of release exposure.

Not surprised at all despite all of the people in the other thread that trusted Atlus PR.

That being said it sucks for the fans, but my idea to wait till 2016 to grab a PS4 seems more an more justified. Then I can pick up P5 and SFV.

I hope this means people roast John Hardin. No matter what the circumstances are, he is still the genesis of these comments. And his passive agressive, 'want to watch the world burn' attitude on Twitter this morning is shameful to say the least as a PR manager.

Yup!! Nobody should be surprised. It's sad how many people who felt it was going to be delayed were insulted before this. I get how long Atlus denied the delay, but it really didn't feel like it was coming this year.

I don't want to put anyone on blast here, but this one was just too fresh in my mind:
Are people finally going to believe it this time? They certainly didn't last time despite representatives from the company coming in and saying so.
I didn't believe them, and then this post right here made me feel bad for not believing. Now I still feel bad that my mistrust was well placed. They really shouldn't have repeating 2015 as much as they have.

At least this clears up my planning a bit. I still have quite a few lengthy 2015 games to play, and Persona would have pushed those back.

Either that, or Atlus USA knew they were lying to us.

Probably mostly column A, until they did learn (which most likely was prior to now), and then it was column B.

Obviously the Japan branch of Atlus doesn't communicate with Atlus USA, or at least not very well.

That doesn't make any sense. How hard is it to tell one of the largest regions they sell their product to "oh, it's not coming out. Make sure they know." And I also take it that Japan's audience didn't know either.

This was so stupid. I can't even...

I'm not even a fan of personas like that and even I'm mad.

I'm laughing because some of you guys were SO SURE that it was coming out this year.

To be fair, they have been stating it was a 2015 release up until today. Even as recently as a few weeks ago they said they are still planning on a 2015 release.

What a huge bummer though.

I'm laughing because some of you guys were SO SURE that it was coming out this year.

I know lol.

I said this multiple times in threads that it wasn't coming out.

Arguments usually boiled down to "How many times do they have to tell you guys it's coming in 2015 before you start to believe them?"

Fucking hilarious.

You don't leave a huge game like this and give it almost zero presence in the west with only like 3 months left in 2015, and still say it's coming out in na.

Anyone with half a brain cell would see that was stupid.

Having said that, delays always mean better games. So that's fine.

I knew long ago. It's only the delusional Persona fanboys that had reality smash them upside the head.
Well the thing is I am not a Persona fanboy (I've only played P4G for crying out loud lol) and I was #Team2015 because I decided to give in to the fact that PR from a gaming company has no reason to lie or throw out shaky claims as confirmed facts, plus Atlus has a history for speedy, obscure releases so it wasn't absolutely crazy, not even close.

But yeah, lesson learned. I won't blindly trust Atlus anymore after this xD

At this point it was pretty obvious.
Lol, some people got mad at me in a thread some time ago for saying that this was probably going to be delayed "b..because atlus has confirmed it's being released this year"

Persona fanboys are just the fucking worst. Most of them will probably defend Atlus USA too. It's a perverse form of Stockholm syndrome is what it is.

Called it.

The m constantly saying 2015 really sucks. I was honestly confused because I couldn't see how the game could come out this year but they were so damn adamant.

Yeah, fuck me for believing up to the delay even though Atlus employees were saying 2015 constantly and P5 TGS key art still had 2015 in it, I'm such a fanboy

So I'm guessing Genei Ibun Roku will probably be out before Persona 5 in the west? I was really hoping it would come out this year but at least I have that look forward to in the meantime.

Yeah, the defenders of the whole "Atlus said it's 2015" seem pretty hilarious now. In spite of fairly obvious signs that this is not going to happen. I am still surprised though at the length of the delay. It's almost 2 year delay now. I wonder what's going on with development there, maybe turnover happened during publisher buy out or Atlus just couldn't get a handle on next gen dev despite having done Catherine previously.

The trailer does look pretty great though, I really liked how populated the areas were, it was very cool. Not to mention the combat looked pretty amazing. What sucks is that we won't see it in NA till fall/winter 2016 and Europe, well, almost guaranteed to be 2017.

I wonder if Atlus will release english subtitled version for Asia.

Localization takes time though, so somebody in Atlus USA had to know

Oh, for sure. Hardin probably didn't have a choice to NOT keep saying 2015.

Though some part of me would laugh if this turns out to be Atlus trolling again w/ those blurred letters/numbers, it's probably just wishful thinking, lol.
