Persona 5 delayed to Summer 2016 for PS3/PS4

Shame about the delay, but P5 in 2015 always seemed like a pip dream, despite what Atlus USA was saying. Oh well, it is what it is. At least this gives me more time to play Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Why would they keep saying it's gonna come out 2015 if they weren't even gonna come close? I always get worried when games are delayed for almost a year

Because that's how companies work? If asked you stick to the company line until the higher ups say otherwise, even if you know better.

If atlus usa had said anything else that would confirm a delay before they had permission to.

That's not generally how companies work, most other companies would have just ignored the question or given an ambiguous reply.

i don't want a long RPG in the summer :/
i'll play this in winter 2016 when it's $10.

For history's sake.

Persona 4 JP release date, July 2008

Persona 4 US release date, December 2008.

So you can expect to pay $60 for it if it even comes out in 2016 for NA.

If P5 catches any later Summer date in Japan we can expect early 2017 imo.

edit: all of this assumes you don't live in japan

And when it was obvious from E3 onward? What is your opinion on that?

I was adament that the game would be delayed.

Like I said, it's easy to say that in hindsight.

Back at E3 it was accepted that Atlus Japan made a marketing mistake by including PV2 with the P4D bonus disc, instead of showing it at E3. It was not any kind of indication of delay.

It's just unfair to insult people who decided to trust their 2015 promises, and were lied to. No one is defending Atlus USA now.

What disappointment. It'd be obvious that it was going to be delay but their constant double downs made me optimistic. Really annoying. Whatever, hopefully we get a worldwide release at least.

And I had faith that the game had odds at making it this year, both approaches may be more or less understandable but they are to be RESPECTED. I respect your thoughts, you were right (props for that) but don't go bashing those who believed, it's poor taste.

Games "media" reaction to this is why you don't throw dates out like that.

They're reporting the delay more than the trailer.
It's their fault for waiting for an event to announce a delay

That's how I see it at least I may be wrong and there was no other time to announce a delay

Not even mad at the delay but they could have told us sooner but it's whatever. All I hope for is a release date close to jpn for us and for them to stop shitting on eu lol

Lol, use your heads people. Why would you think the game is coming out in 2015, it's not like Atlus constantly said it was.

It was obvious that it was getting delayed but come on. This is basically how not to do PR101

I still can''t believe people actually believed this was gonna release in 2015, we are in september and we haven't had an english trailer, silly people

Pretty disingenuous of them to keep telling us that it was 100% coming in 2015. But I guess it should have been obvious given how quiet they've been. Jesus christ. This is probably when it would have come out for Europe anyway...

Not surprised at all... well... I actually expected Late Winter 2016/Spring 2016.

P5, DQXI, and FFXV all battling it out for JRPG of the Year 2016? Hot damn! :D

Very odd decision by Atlus to keep insisting on a 2015 deadline and then delay it to summer 2016. I wonder if it was a situation where the game is content complete and the delay is due to technical issues that they were hoping could be solved in time to still release late this year. Otherwise, I have no idea how they thought this was good customer interaction. Oh well. The game looks fantastic and as much as I'm looking forward to it, there are always quality games to play in the interim. I just wished they had made better choices in communication to fans.

I hope Atlus apologized to their fans for this! This was my most anticipated game this year and does not make sense to have a big delay like that, unless the rumors are true for a Persona 3(vomits) and Persona 4 HD collection this year.

Lastly, I hope FFXV does not come out around the same time of Persona 5, since it's going to hurt Persona 5 sales potential.

Because people believe the word of the company? How stupid of us huh.

You can't just take it in isolation. Ignoring everything else and just relying on a company's PR is naive at best.

Always take a company's PR with a grain of salt. Regardless of industry. It's fine to get excited, but just remember things can change no matter what is said.

It's so easy to tout how others are idiots or delusional fanboys in hindsight. Sigh.

It's part of the reason I'm not super into contributing to Media Create threads. I saw a lot of "Ha! Look at this ridiculous predictions. It doesn't matter that hindsight is 20/20, I am still obligated to make fun you."

I will admit when I was wrong though. The delusion was fun while it lasted.

JP May 23, 2013
NA July 16, 2013

Give me hope for closer release dates.

On the plus side I can hold off on buying a PS4, although I might still jump for it if there are good deals this holiday season.
On the down side my fragile, childlike trust is forever shattered.

The evidence for a delay was there. People willingly plugged their ears and chanted Hardin. So of course if you ignore the evidence people are going to jab you.

Vindication was had that day.

Moral of the story is to wait for companies to have proof they can make a release before believing them. Which this game did not have in the slightest.
